3rd party Nav?

Recommended Posts

PCM is not out in Japan, so Porsche dealers routinely install 3rd party navigation units. I find the new HDD Pioneer unit with the XM NavTraffic intriguing.

Has anyone heard of replacing the head unit with a 3rd party 2DIN Nav for the US 987? Either the base, plus, or the BOSE version? I'd imagine you'd have to forget the BOSE external power amps and the factory CD changer because they use MOST? Or am I completely wrong?

I don't have a 987 yet, but am thinking of options.

Thanks in advance!

I put a double-din Pioneer unit in my 04 996. I am not sure what differences there are between the two cars, but I am very happy with the install. In the 996, the opening is a bit taller than standard double din, so some custom fabrication is required.

Someone with more knowledge of the similarities/differences in the dashes between the 987/996 could shed more light here..

I have an Eclipse nav unit in my 05 987. One issue is there is no Vehical Speed Sensor connection in the car. Since it's all upgraded wireing kit the traditional VSS connections will not work. There is a VSS kit you can buy from Alpine as a work around.
