Shifter knob diameter?

Has anyone installed any aftermarket shifter knobs? Does anyone know the diameter of the top of the shifter lever, and how to remove the factory Boxster shifter knob?

I just added an updated shifter knob to my 97 boxster. I put in the silver/leather version as found on the 2000 models. It was easy to do, check this link out....

http://www.986faq.com/7-0/default.asp Section 7.3 tells you how. (this site was down while I was typing this, but it worked last night)

Basically it says:

-put on the parking brake

-sit in the passenger seat

-Shift gear lever into reverse

-remove the boot from center console by gently pressing the rear left & rights sides in, and lifiting up

-Place foot on floorboard and pull shift knob straight up.....

It took me about 60 secs replace mine...

Also, the shifter lever isn't round. It is flattened on each side so I dont know if non-porsche shift knobs would work.........
