Starter to Alternator

Recommended Posts

Hi Loren,

I was recommended to replace the wire from

the alternator to the starter.

2006 997 S

I think the part number is 997 607 018 03

Can you also tell me where the connection point is located. Is

is on top of the motor near the starter?

The connection point number 15 should be part number 997 607 201 00

I will try to take pictures and post it as a diy.

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks Loren,

Any idea where that part number 15 is located? I

know the starter is behind the throttle body. You

remove the throttle body to gain acess to the

starter nuts. The altenator is on the driver's

side. I hope part 15 is near the starter. I will

hate to have eveything pulled apart just to find

that you need a lift to get to part 15 under the car.

Paul

Hi Loren,

I ordered a new 'Alternator Harness' for my 2005 997S w/ a Tiptronic tranny from a Porsche dealer and received one w/ the p/n 997 607 018 04. Does this supercede the 997 607 018 03 version? Is it the right one?

Thanks,

Arnie

Yes. 997-607-018-03 has been superseded by 997-607-018-04.

And the -03 is no longer available.

Hi Loren,

Do you know which year the newer cable came into production?

Thank you.

Matt

Sorry, not without going through the PET monthly parts list updates for the last 10 years.

Besides any dealer could have had stock of the older cable with instructions to use until gone.

I'm planning on doing this replacement with the excellent DIY documentation found here. However, my 997 is a Tip - is there anything significantly different in performing this from a MT before I get started? I have not found anything specific at this point other than the correct part # for Tip's

Thanks

It should be pretty much the same though the part number for a Tip is: 997 607 018 04
