This would be the metropole blue part that I need to replace on my car but does an '04 work on a '99????

Yes, the parts list shows the (MY99) 02 part replaced by the (MY00) 03 part replaced by the 04 part. It also says to replace that part you will need the following additional hardware:

996 580 667 00 Bracket - 2 needed (retail $3.24 each)

999 591 489 02 Speed Nut - 2 needed (retail $0.19 each)

999 073 060 02 Tapping Screw - 3 needed (retail $0.08 each)

Hi Loren,

Just ran into this old post. I'm replacing the same part on my '99 C4. I have one of the two clamps so I see I need one more but where on the new trim piece do they go? Its not clear to me.

Yes that was long ago,sorry.

I have a blue 1999 996 C4. Interior is graphite grey. The trim piece which covers the roll over bars is torn so I picked up a new retrofit version awhile back. Just installing now after repairing much of the cab system. Here is what i got:

COVER - PORSCHE (996-555-083-04-ERN)
METAL BRACKET - PORSCHE (996-580-667-00)
 SPEED NUT - PORSCHE (999-591-489-02)
 SCREW 4.8 X 13 - PORSCHE (999-073-060-02)

 

I saw from your post that I'm short one bracket. Tried fitting the one I have but can't seem to find the correct placement for the one and the second when I order it. The old piece had two screws on the interior left and right sides and three on the back side to hold it down. One pre existing one corresponds to the center backside one but the others I guess get replaced by the brackets?

999-591-489-02 is discontinued use 999-591-489-01 instead

 

Sorry, I still don't understand which parts we are talking about. A photo showing the part and location might help...

My top is Metropol Blue so that cover is also blue. New cover is on the floor in the picture. I just can't seem to figure out where the newer style clamps go.

By clamps do you mean speed nuts?

If so, they usually slide over the plastic at key spots to clamp together the two plastic pieces (once the screw is driven in).

And I've been using the wrong word to describe this part. They call it a bracket, METAL BRACKET - PORSCHE (996-580-667-00).

Likely it attached to either the car body or the plastic piece (sorry I do not own a cab and don't have one to look at).

Then the screws should hold everything in place.
