  1. I get 20.8 miles per gallon , mixed highway / city driving with my 1999 (3.4 ) C2. At highway speed 80-85 miles is goes up to about 21 miles per hour. I am driving in California. Generally I will chang gears at 4.5 to 5 k revs.
  2. Now here is a good one. I got my car C2 coupe 1999) back from the 30K miles services and I asked them to check my RMS. They said it was fine. The service guy looked at me and said " AHH ..so you know about the RMS issue " Then he said..yes there is a very small fraction of the older Porsches 996 who have this problem but Porsche considers the engine to be just a replacable part like an exhaust system and they do not consider it to be a part of the car ( like USA based companies do). He said that Porsche will modify the original records of the car to "erase" the old serial number of the engine so that it no longer exists in their database. That also means there is no record of how many they have replaced...if they do not maintain the replacement database.... Oh yes, and the service was 795 dollars which included changing the sparkplugs, 10 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic 0-40 and the usual other items. HarryR
  3. Guys, I am contemplating buying these Xenon's to match with my factory Zenon low beams on my 1999 Carrera. Does it work and is it worthwhile? They are currently on auction on eBay for 90 bucks. Type H7 from what I understand. Any issues ( high power requirement??) YOU GOTTA HAVE THESE XENONS IF YOU OWN ONE OF THE GREAT PORSCHE 911 (996). What makes these PREMIUM XENONS so unique is its ULTRA XENON GAS inside the ceramic-based tube, the glare my XENONS produces are one of a kind. They are not just much BRIGHTER than the stock and other brand bulbs; these XENONS are laboratory-proven to output CLOSEST light texture compare to PORSCHE factory XENON-Lowbeams. Our PREMIUM XENON(Trademark) halogens bulbs are developed & engineered in Motron' Lab in Germany - the Hometown of Porsche. These PREMIUM XENONTM Halogens are the Closest performer EVER to the Porsche factory Xenon lights. If you have the factory xenon lowbeam lamps, You can use my PREMIUM XENON Halogens as your Foglights & Highbeam to comply with your factory Xenon lights. So your foglight will not look "Yellowish". These PREMIUM XENON halogens I'm offering are SIMPLY the BEST, They are made by XENON tm. I'm a PORSCHE fanatic, I've tried 8 different kind of bulbs prior these XENONS (PIAA super white $88, super plasma $140, plasma blue $137 & Solarix etc) and Nothing close to my Xenons as far as the performance and Xenon glare. My XENONS halogens IS the closest thing to the PORSCHE factory Xenon with fraction of the cost! THESE PREMIUM XENONS ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY!! The installation is easy as 1-2-3, I can be able to provide your Xenon installations via e-mail. I'm using these Xenon on all my cars and I LOVE IT! Every customer was surprised upon the installation of these Xenons. THEY ARE THE CLOSEST THING TO THE FACTORY XENON and look even better; the light texture is BRIGHT, BEAUTIFUL & LUXURIOUS! FYI, the installation of the factory Xenon is impossible because there's is no self leveling device, and they will DEFINITELY cause a conflict your in-dash computer systems (A message of "CHECK YOUR LOW BEAM" will flash every time you turned on your headlights) The factory Xenon is $1200 ~ $2000. Ask your Porsche dealer and they will tell you it is not doable even if you pay the high price. SO ACT NOW! These Xenons will be the BEST $ you've ever spent on your PORSCHE!! You will get the BRAND NEW In-The-Box XENONS. Don't miss this GREAT OPPORTUNITY! We accept PAYPAL (Send Payment to Our PAYPAL account: BMWXENON@aol.com) & ALL TYPES OF MAIL PAYMENTS. Sorry NO Bill Point Payments at this time. Appreciate your input. hroussard
  4. What is the location of the "work place" on Saturday in San Jose?? As I am in Foster City I may want to come down and meet some of you !
  5. Driving on California's highways with my 1999 C2 which has the USA Sport suspension package seems to be the "hardest" suspension that would make sense on these roads. I do not think I would want to go for a stiffer suspension even if it would be for free, as in zero dollars. I also suspect that lowering the car will also increase the chance to hit the famous stops on the C2 and again, in my mind it would deter from the solid predictable ride my car currently has. Of course if you use your car on the track, that would be a total different requirement. I used to drive a Nissan 300Z TT and it was unbearable to drive it on the sport setting ( the car has a touring and sport setting activated / switched with a small knob in the cockpit) .
  6. In some of the documentation is states that it is recommended to add an "additive" to the water when rinsing the car off. What is it, where can I buy it and is this something you guys are doing and if so...ohw often. Appreciate it. I have a 1999 C2 Coupe.
  7. Is Sunset Porsche local to me ( Foster City/ San Mateo in California). I understand , they ( the dealer) need the car to ensure that the programming is done correctly. Appreciate your input. Thanks
  8. I need an additional ignition key for my 1999 C2 and my friendly Porsche dealers quotes me something around 350 dollars including programming. Any alternatives for the key without remote buttons or for the key with remote buttons? Anybody has a spare one they want to sell ? I live in the Bay area ( San Francisco). Thanks HarryR cell 650-888 1622
  9. You can also send a check for about 100 dollars to Porsche in Atlanta. They will cend you a certificate with all the official options your vehicle was delivered with as well as the MSRP when it would delivered to the dealer. There is a special customer service department responding to these questions and I received my certificate of authenticity in about 4 weeks. Very nice in embossed paper etc etc.
  10. I find the steering of my C2 ( 1999) VERY light, especially compared to my Nissan ZZ twin turbo, yes I know the engine is in the front, but I would have assumed that Porsche would have dialed in some more "feel" in the C2 which would take some of the "twitchiness" out of the steering, maybe using caster , maybe less steering assist.
  11. It would be great if we could keep a thread around the treatment that owners got ...or did not get. I wonder if Porsche America would also honor a free repair for folks like myself who bought a 996 which was already out of warranty when it was purchased. In my case ( luckily NO drips at 30,000 miles) , I bough the car only earlier this year. It would be good to find out which Porsche dealers are treating their customers well too. And, in cases where owners contacted PCNA ,who did they get an acceptable response from. ie cutting through the red tape and getting to the guy or gal that make the decision or can make the decision without having to spin the wheels or doing a lot of Sherlock Holmes work to get to the decision maker(s).
  12. I bought Lexol cleaner and leather conditioner for my Carrera 996 ( 1999) with boxter red leather interior. Reading the container it states "not recommended on suede or glove soft leather". Did I waste my money? Anybody has experience with this product on boxter red leather?? Appreciate input. HarryR
  13. I got a quote of $ 800.00 for a 30,000 miles service from Rector MotorCars in Burlingame (CA) earlier this week.
  14. There is a a great article around suspensions for the 996 on the Porsche Club of America's website.. It's called : 996 Standard andSport suspensions analyzed and they are comparing the USA versions ( standard and 030 option) to the ROW M030 options. Very interesting article,. See if the following link works for you: http:/www.pca.org/panorama/sample_article_3.html Bottom line :American suspensions are softer and the car is up to 3 centimeter higher... It can be changed...it only takes money . Around 2K dollars Good luck! HarryR996 ( 1999) C2 with 030 option and 18 inch wheels
  15. The first 1999 US model 996's were really 1998's according to Porsche. Then there were "real" 1999's. This also coincides with the headlamp marker light change. Note though, that people change these all the time, so I wouldn't use that method of carbon dating. VIN's for the US cars were as follows: production year 1998: Coupe W 99XS6 20061>30000 Cabrio W 99WS6 50061>59999 production year 1999: Coupe X 99XS6 20061>29999 Cabrio X 99XS6 50061>59999 Joel Reiser - PCA WebSite - 7/1/2003 That is the information I could pick up. What is the difference and what problems were taken care off? Harry R Carrera 2 (996) 6 speed, 1999
  16. I just bought a nice C2 ( 1999) with 25K miles on the tach. It has lots of options and I am asking PCNA to send me the details of the options which they are going to do for 95 dollars plus shipping and handling in the next 6 weeks or so. In the meantime I would like to know what a Club Sports package is. Some say it's a sports suspension package other are saying it's a compbination of things including Sport seats ( which my car has). Does any body know what it really means? Also, I need an extra remote control key. My local dealership , Rector Motorcars in Burlingame , CA wants about 300 dollars or so ( $150 for the key and about $150 for the programming give or take $50.00). Any other ideas??
