I am almost done with my engine swap and I am running into a small problem. I have an 03 Boxster and am putting a 3.4 996 motor in it from an'01Everything seems to be running great. Idle is good, tons of power. The only problem is that the engine is throwing a 0349 phase sensor 2 camshaft hall effect 2 error code. I had new sensors put in but I am still getting the code in spite of everything running great. Could this just be an bug because I am using the 03 DME with the "01 motor? Any ideas for a fix ?Thanks,
I got the DRT's as well and I am very happy with them. Have had them at 4 DE's and they performed flawlessly. They threw in a set of Mintex pads for $100.00 as well with the rotors. Excellent seller, very good experience. I did not have such a good experience with All German Parts on Ebay. The shipping charges were really high even after emailing them. They knocked them back a few dollars but it was still excessive in my opinion. I had just got the car, didn't know where to go and I needed the parts in a hurry so I paid it but I won't buy from them again.
I have 18" turbo twists as well. With my coilovers I had to add spacers to the rear. 7mm made them clear but only by a mm or 2. so I switched out to 15mm rear spacers and put the 7's on the front. I really love the way the car looks now and I think the handling has improved some but also think that it would be negligible on most street driving. The stance is very aggressive but I think I would probably like it better with a 10 or 12 mm spacers on the back.
Stop immediately and check to see that all your lug nuts are tight. If you have spacers take the wheels off and make sure they are tight as well. Torque them all to 96lbs. If you don't have a torque go to Harbor Fright and get a cheapie for $15.00 until you can get a good one. Chances are they are OK especially after a PPI but better safe than sorry. I had and experience once with a mechanic that forgot to tighten the lugs and the symptoms you are describing sound very similar. Take 5 minutes to check it. Better safe than sorry.
Carlos: I was always told that after the DME is unplugged the computer will need to "re-learn". It shouldn't last more than a couple of days to a week of driving. The more you drive it, the faster it will go through the proccess.
I installed the Schnell kit and I love it. I have been test driving various 996's with the standard shifter and I can't imagine I would ever want to go back. If I trade up it will be the first thing that I change out. Come to think of it, the shifter was the first mod that I did on the Boxster
I have an 03 as well with almost the same mileage. I purchased mine from Warranty Direct, There were quite a few people on some of the other Boxster boards who said they had good experiences with them. I couldn't find anybody who had something bad to say. Search all the forum boards, you will find tons of info.
Jinster is absolutely right. I have just completed installing my new coilovers this weekend. I have the Japanese version that are sold under the brand name Ksport here. I bought them from a company in Brooklyn for $1106.00 delivered. They appear to be all tip top quality. Did the install myself using the pinned guide posted here by Graeme. Hats off to Graeme for the great guide/instructions and the folks at Renntech for keeping this board going and posting all the useful info. The job was not that difficult at all just a little time consuming. My first impression after getting the car back on the road was HOLY COW!! The car is like a whole different beast. I must say that I have never enjoyed driving a car as much as I have since I put on these coilovers. The car drives like it is on rails and really grips the road tight. I feel almost invincible in it. The springs control the ride height so it is a really simple matter to jack up the wheel and raise or lower the height. Should be very handy for DE days and if I decide to do an autocross or two this year. I have 17" wheels on my car so I decided to lower it 1 1/2" and it looks really badass. Ksport USA says these are 36 way adjustable and the rise height can be dropped from 0 to 3 inches. I have them set on the softest setting and it is still a good bit stiffer than stock. It's pretty bumpy on some of the city streets (which in all honesty are ravaged from the freeze/thaw cycle here) but very drivable on most roads especially the interstates. The firmest setting would have to be for track days only. With them set at the firmest setting I think I wouldn't last more than 30 minutes behind the wheel without getting a severe headache or arm strain. I still have to get the alignment this week but I highly recommend this mod to anyone who wants their car to sit lower or handle better. Also-my wife bought me a front strut tower brace for Christmas and that seemed to make a BIG improvement as well. Best $100 <30 minute mod there is. I always thought that my boxster's steering was just a bit on the sloppy side but after these two improvements I can say with absolute certainty that this is the best handling car I have ever owned. Can't wait for the first DE at Mid Ohio so I can really test these out.
Hi all, I just picked up a hardtop and would like to get it painted. My body shop gave me a killer price to paint it but they have never worked on one before and are allways extremely busy. I would like to take off and re-install all the rubber and trim myself since it will speed things up and save me some $$$$. I have tried searching but could not find a guide to removing all the trim on a hardtop. Does anyone know any online resources that I could download or have instructions they could email me? Thanks,

I ordered the spinlocks and bolts and plan on putting them on tomorrow. From all the info I have gathered it appears that the simplist thing to do will be to drop in the spinlocks with the top down then put the top up move the inside lining of the top out of the way-once that is done you can see the threads stright ahead with a flashlight. We'll see. You can pm me on 986forums if you want me to send pics of the install.
I have been working on restoring a '69 911T for a quite a while now and thought I was coming into the home stretch... This week: Replaced both batteries, distributor cap and rotor, bosch german blue coil, points, plugs and wires. Checked all the gaps twice, reseated the cap and triple checked all the wires. Everything is OK. No spark. Checked it all again and checked all the fuses in the fuse box. All OK. Went out today and bought a meter. Called permatune tech dept for help about the Capacitive Discharge unit. Downloaded the technical data from permatune and did a bench check on it with the ohm meter and everthing matches with the factory data sheet so I assume that it is working OK. The coil tests at 3 ohms on avery old analog meter (with a weak battery) and 3.5 on a new digital ohm meter. Tonight was checking all the grounds that I could find. Permatune brown is grounded fine. Batteries are grounded fine. As well as about 6 other grounds I found, all fine. Anyone got any suggestestions??? If I didn't shave my head I would have lost all my hair over this. Was so mad I almost put it up for sale on eBay. Almost. Also-does anyone know where I can get a diagram of the ignition switch? It doesn't seem to be in the Haynes manual. Much of the time I could be working on this I am alone and it would be nice if I could crank the car from the engine compartment. I found an old pistol grip remote switch in my toolbox but I need to know which connections to jump in the ignition switch. ANY help would be SOOO appreciated! I really don't want to spend 300-400 on a new permatune if it is at all possible. Martin '03 Boxster '69 911T in progress -
