  1. This is AVIC-D1 on my 02 Boxster http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9992
  2. Got the car back yesterday, it was the water pump. I thought it would last longer than 70K. I didnt change the water pump in my Mercedes till 145K (and it was only showing signs of wear, not failure) One shop quoted $1K, had it towed to another and got it done for $540. Just because you drive a Porsche some shops try to stick it too you.
  3. Insuarnce company will cover it under your comprehensive coverage. You'll just have to pay the deductible. This is the reason I have a $100 deductible on my Boxster.
  4. My 02 2.7L Tiptronic started to leak a lot of coolant on my way home today. Immediately took it to a local shop. The engine temp stays normal, but I could see coolant dripping and smoking & smell coolant. .I did a search here for coolant leaks and seems to be a coolant reservoir leak, but my leak seems to be coming from the center bottom of the engine Not sure of the cap ending # and no coolant around the cap. No coolant in the oil and no CEL (just flashing coolant warning light). Could it be my water pump or a busted hose? Any thoughts? :o
  5. I removed my factory cupholders and CD player and installed a Pioneer AVIC-D1. It is a double DIN GPS receiver. It fits perfect with minor tweeking. It has a DVD-ROM for the GPS map disc, but will not play movies. The built in CD player and touch panel GPS are great. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/prod...8219118,00.html
  6. Dealer here in So. Cal. quoted me $900 for 60K service. Most Independant shops were $600-$800. I wound up doing it myself. What you paid is just crazy!!!
  7. I am changing the pollen filter under the hood, but Im not sure which filter I need. I seen pictures of the regular filter and activated charcoal and they look identical. The one in my car is really dirty so I can't tell what I have. Any idea's for figuring it out?
  8. Thanks for the info!! One last question, how many hours of labor should it be? It has a Tiptronic tranny, not sure if that matters.
  9. An independant shop. The guy is pretty stand up. Thinking of having him just replace the RMS and calling it a day.
  10. Just took my 02 Tip to have what I thought was an RMS leak fixed. Mechanic says that the leak is coming from where the 2 engine half's are sealed together. Is this possible? He is advising a complete teardown of the engine to "re-seal" the engine at 50-60 hours of labor!!!! Makes no sense to me..............
  11. I read that my 02 has no fuel filter that is changable. I can not find one for sale on any website, only for an 01 and older.. I thought the Boxster got a returnless fuel system in 02, not 03.
  12. 60K serice was done my me. Changed plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter, new tires, cleared debris from the radiators. I assumed my car has no fuel filter as I could not find one anywhere, does it? Tire pressure checked once a week, always good. Peter Smith of PCA says the K&N and BMC filter's are not at fault for a faulty MAF, but rather faulty electronics within the MAF. If MAF was faulty wouldnt my CEL come on?
  13. Added the K&N @ 60K. Car ran like a million bucks after the service. Im just trying to do some homework before taking it to the dealer. Dealer in my area is under investigation for shady business practices. :(
  14. Car has had all its maintenace at 60K and a recent oil change. I also cleaned the K&N air filter for good measure. I have treated the car with Techron concentrate. Seems to run better if I use an octane boost. Although it did throw out a HUGE cloud of white smoke the other day (usually just little puffs ), but still no check engine light. If it was the MAF, wouldn't I have some idle problems since the fuel/air mixture would be wrong? Thanks for the feed back!!
  15. I own an 02 Boxster 2.7(tiptronic) with 68K on the odometer. Recently the gas milage has gone to crap, maybe 15 mpg city/hwy. Recently I have noticed a change in the exhaust note and it just doesnt seem to have the same zippy feel. Sometimes when starting cold it make a lazy cranking sound (sorry, not sure how to explain it ) before firing up. I know it has a leak at the RMS, but I dont think it would cause these symtoms. Any thought? :(
