  1. It's been my experience that dealers typically lack the incentive to find 'strange and/or intermittent' problems on warranty covered cars. What they usually do (if they can't locate or confirm the customer reported problem) is perform some other maintence action so they get reimbursed from PCNA. Good ideal to check obvious things first (if you can) before bringing the car into the dealer.
  2. You have a 997TT w/o cruise control? Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought cruise control was standard equipment on all 997s maybe w/ the exception of the GT3. Unless you do a lot of 'open highway' driving cruise control is one of the less used features. Now if Porsche had the 'smart' cruise control (senses vehicles in front) it might get used more.
  3. I would think if you want OEM Porsche equipment then go to a Porsche dealer. Check either Suncoast or Sunset Porsche. They seem to have the best prices. If you want aftermarket then Google B&K for the bracket and SafeCraft for a neat Halon 2.5# extingusher w/ billet aluminum mount.
  4. I believe Water Wetter is merely an additive. If you flushing your system or installing the additional radiator I would use the Porsche recommended coolant (ie. Pentosin) as the base fluid topped off w/ a bottle of Water Wetter.
  5. I thought I read somewhere that Yokahama tires are also a Porsche OEM supplier.
  6. You won't go wrong w/ X51 headers. Just installed a pair on my 997S a few days ago. Fit was perfect. Simple DIY job (6 header bolts and 3 cat nuts) for the average 'wrench'. Good luck!
  7. My V1 always goes off when approaching those - it is set on Logic mode - L.. Mine lights up like a Xmas tree (both coming and going) when those "Your Speed is XXX" signs are encountered. Also running in the Logic (L) Mode.
  8. I've got an early build (#337) MY2005. It has the non 'SOS' and no MP3 PCM. Since I don't need the cell phone interface and I have the Dension IPOD GW500 I see no need to upgrade. Unless your PCM 'breaks' and your under warranty there is no reasonable ($$$$) way to upgrade to the later version.
  9. I'm in the planning phase of installing a Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) in my 997S and need to gain access to the DME located behind the right rear passenger seat area. I need to integrate the PSE harness to the DME so it activates when in 'Sport Mode'. Does anybody have step-by-step instructions, the Porsche Workshop Manual for this activity or hints/tips on removing the carpet & trim pieces in the area? I don't want mess up and trim or fasteners. I have the PSE install instruction but it offers no help in this critical area. Thanks in advance, Arnie
  10. I read somewhere that 17 ft lbs is the number.
  11. Check out this thread on 6Speedonline.com. It seems that most love the start up noise, rattle, raspiness, etc. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99097
  12. I think the initial start sound is typical of most if not all 997's. My 2005 997S makes the same sound when I first start it up in the morning. It's most likely amplified some since it's in the garage. The CATS are covered under the Federal Emssions Warranty which is greater than the 4yrs/50k mile USA new car warrany. Unless you fail an emissions test I'd be surprised if PCNA is inclined to consider your complaint. I could be wrong. Let us know if you bring it up before your local Porsche dealer. Good Luck!
  13. I don't know the answer to your question but I suspect the threaded mounts are in place under the carpet. I have a better idea! I'll trade you my 997S (rear seats and all) for your GT3. Just let me know when you'd like to do the swap and I'll be there. Congratulations on the upcoming event. It's a life altering experience (a good one).
  14. Must be a SA2005 for my PCA Zone/Region. I use an open face helmet for AX events. I find them to offer a bit more peripheral vision, lighter and cooler. Pyrotect has a nice SA2005 O/F for less than $150 if you just need a minimal helmet. Have fun and be safe!
  15. I assume you're asking about just the NAV unit and not the PCM unit. My guess would be 'maybe' in terms of hardware but I suspect you might need a PCM software update and the appropriate NAV DVD. I think you need to be prudent regarding 'mixing & matching' PCM related items (ie. NAV). That's my educated guess . . . . I could be wrong. BTW: Why do you want to install an older unit in a newer car?
  16. Just spend the $10 and get one from Porsche. You can order from www.sunsetimports.com 999 571 074 30 - wheel hanger A must for PCCB's. You certainly don't want to chip a ceramic rotor ($$$$). I bought a couple from Jeff @ Sunset Porsche. I think they were $8 per hanger.
  17. Check out Carnewal @ http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm. I think there are domestic screens as well. You might do a search on one of the other boards (ie. Rennlist, Rennteam or 6 spd). Good Luck!
  18. Unless you're a smoker replace it w/ the 'non' smoking kit. No more hinge to worry about and you've got a little compartment for keys or a small cell phone.
  19. Does the rubber cover on the 997S TIP brake pedal come off like the 6sp brake/clutch pedals do? I'm thinking about doing aluminum pedals on my TIP 997S. I know the gas and foot rest will go over the existing pedals. Thanks
  20. Do you get the Dension logo (I think it says something like 'Dension Gateway 500') connection screen on your iPOD when it's connected and starts up. If you don't I think your iPod and Gateway 500 aren't communicating w/ each other. BTW: I tried all the later versions of Dension F/W, including v1.05), and went back to v1.00. It's more stable and predictable. The Dension UI & F/W are flakey. I simply use my iPOD as a huge jukebox in random mode. Trying to setup artists, albums, etc. don't work very well. Don't expect any help from Dension tech support. Use the forums as your major source of information. Rennteam and 6 Speed forums have a lot of Gateway 500 users. Good Luck!
  21. Loren, I have an early build (#337) 2005 997 w/ NAV. I was wondering if you knew which versions of NAV DVD's are compatible. I tried a 10/2006 version (P/N 997.642.257.04) for PCM 2.1 but get an 'Incompatible DVD' message on my PCM screen. I heard there might be a PCM software upgrade required before I use a latter NAV DVD. Any info or comments on this topic. Thanks, Arnie
  22. Loren, Thanks for the info. I won't mention the dealer but there parts department crew is pretty bad (as evidenced by this example). On too many occasions they ordered the wrong part when I was 'restoring/upgrading' my old Boxster. I have a box full of trim pieces & fasteners at home to prove it. They are not really Porsche enthusiasts so they can't visualize or know by 'hands on' when searching for a part in the PET. In the 'old days' the 'parts guy' knew just about everything when asked about a certain part for a certain model. Maybe it's because there are so many more models and configurations now. Thanks again for the help, Arnie
  23. The parts guy at my local dealer looked at his PET database and found something called M580 but there was no detail He was suppose to call Porsche Hqtrs (?) for details and let me know. He never called me.
  24. Loren, Is there a non smoker kit (replaces the ash tray w/ a nice little open storage tray) for the 997? I had one in my old 986 Boxster that was really handy. Thanks!
