  1. Try x-51 headers, AWE Cats, X-51 Air box and some software. I have AWE Headers and Cats, Remus Mufflers, X-51 airbox, APR software, IPD Plenum, and a slightly modified Throttle body. I have never put the car on a dyno but I really enjoy the difference. My guess 25-40HP.
  2. it could be the hydraulics that move the spolier. They were replaced on my brothers 05 and my 06 under warranty.
  3. It is really pretty easy to change the air filters. Easier than a stock 997S. No vacum lines on the x-51 box. Check to the left of the air box. I beleive there are some plastic clips which hold a hose. These clips spring open as in they pull apart easily. Lossen the clamp on the bellows pipe between the Air box and engine closest to the air box. Slide the clamp forward. It is really pretty easy to change the air filters. Easier than a stock 997S. Push the bellows off the air box and lift the air box out. Turn it over remove the screws on both sides and change the filters. Sometimes the rubber grommets that the box sits in come out when you pull it out so note where they go. This is going from memory so check to make sure I didn't forget something. It is really easy. Put a towel on the paint so you don't scratch it by accident.
  4. I have the APR and like it. It seems to bring the torque on sooner, lower in the rpms. In addition I have AWE headers and Cats, X-51, Plenum, and the x-51 airbox. For me it improved the everyday drive ability. I think either the APR or Softronic are good options. Depends on which is easier for you to acquire and install. The softronic is DIY with a laptop.
  5. I had to add an aftermarket smart top module to get this feature.
  6. Yea Wanyne mentioned machining, but machining what. A new bolt pattern, larger throttle area (this is a given). RSS wants $300 to machine a plenum. That's kind of outlandish. Maybe I can do it myself. Dave Dave, I think they would have to machine one of their plenum's. Not only for the four ne mounting holes but the opening is 4-6MM bigger too. The stock Plastic Plenum would not work. Let me know the results. ddodd100@charter.net David Thanks Dave, I knew the OEM plastic plenum wouldn't work, but just how much work would it be to machine the RSS piece. I may drive down to RSS as Greg says he has a 997 X51 throttle body there so I can see. Dave
  7. haha, sorry not laughing at you, but the same thing happened to me! you have the wrong size battery! the one you got is slightly wider than your old one, so you need to get a replacement of the correct size and your issue will be no more :) remove the battery and you'll see a second hole appx an inch to the inside of the non-threaded hole Sam There are two or three holes for the battery to bolt to. I used a Johnson controls battery which is sold by Auto zone and Wal-mart(Wal-mart is cheaper- same battery) There is a 48L which will fit in one of the holes with a weld nut and there is the 49L which will fit in the hole with out a nut. The 48L is the same size as a stock battery but their application chart says this is for a 996 and maybe a Non S 997. They sell you the 49L which is slightly longer or wider depend on how you look at it. Long story short I put a 49L in my 06 C2S then used an aircraft style nut with the stock bolt and carfully lined it up with the hole and started the bolt. Works fine. I bought the nut at Autozone.
  8. Thanks for your input Wanye. I would love to see your dyno's. Also, did you do a "before" dyno when your car was stock? Thanks, Johnny FWIW, I agree with Wayne W. I have added AWE HEADERSand CAts, REMUS Exhaust(AWE was too loud), X-51 Air box, RSS Plenum and Modified TB(not x-51), and APR software. Mine is a 6 speed but I have driven a 997.2 PDK in Sport mode and thought the engine was fantastic. Mine with the sport button on is every bit as good or better. I absolutely love the performance. The only thing I will do in the future is add lighter wheels and maybe a flywheel. I prefer a N/A engine over a S/C and wouldn't consider that option. Haven't tracked it but I had no problems staying with a Lambo and a Corvette on back roads while a 930 Turbo couldn't keep up. David

I think we have even exchanged e-mails.

  11. Thanks I am a contributing member and have the list. Though I probably need to make another contribution. The Castrol Edge is a new product and available in Auto parts store and Wal-mart but not in either of the grades required by Porsche 0-40 or 5-40. However it is in other parts of the world. Autozone does sell the Mobil1 5W-40 Diesil though as well as M1 0-40. Walmarts in my area no longer carry 0-40. Here is a site that says Mobil1 0-40 yielded the highest HP. Disclaimer I know nothing about the site just did a search and found it. http://www.performanceoilnews.com/oils_against_oils.shtml

  13. Any ideas on where to get a Porsche Suitable 5w-40 Mobil1 or Castrol Edge for the 997? Will the Diesel 5w-40 Mobil 1 work for a Porsche?
  14. +1 on the APR. Some people have put 3.8 x-51 motors in Caymens.
  15. I have read of some issues with the wiring harness on the engine needing to be changed to solve this problem especially if the problem is slow starting when the engine is hot.
