  1. That's what I do. Might still put a jack stand under there while doing so.
  2. Do you have a pilot tool (long tapered steel rod like a punch but longer) you could use to lever it in place?
  3. Newer plugs have a coating which obviates the need for antiseize. I only use it if reinstalling for some reason. Are certain your coil packs are seated and all wiring is intact. If you have a new problem after some work, they are probably related.
  4. That sounds like an immobilizer issue. Someone with more extensive knowledge will probably step in here with more information. Do you have a repair manual for the car?
  5. If you have trouble getting the plate positioned, a ratchet strap is a big help squeezing the uprights together.
  6. All data has a diagram. I’m looking at it since I’m getting codes for a bad Valve Lift Controller and the pump has to come off to allow access. i can’t address all your questions but the smaller hose is for the transmission signal and the larger one for brake assist.
  7. Our attempt didn’t go well. The crank locked for him too. So he sent out my crank to get checked (as well as my spare.) Both are good, so at this point it appears the bearings are issue. So we are going to try another set of factory bearings.
  8. You definitely need to find people more familiar with the brand! NO! You do not need to disassemble anything. Get a one inch boat plug and yank them. YouTube can illustrate. Also, unless they are cracked, just replace the o-rings at each end. Just did this two weeks ago.
  9. So I’ve made an interesting discovery. While annoyed the engine was lazy around town, I went to “sport” mode. This seems to have changed something about the oil flow, as it has stopped the erratic idle symptoms and even cleared the check light. Any ideas on how this possible?
  10. I’ve been super lucky to be offered a chance to work with someone very experienced and associated with one of the premier M96 gurus to assemble the rotating assembly. So I can come in from the wilderness!
  11. Thanks, it doesn’t make sense. I may end up there. Rapidly realizing there’s a reason no one rebuilds these at every shop!
  12. In process of rebuilding a 3.2. All new mains, polished journals. Clearance is about .002 I’ve gone to ARP bolts for the bearing cage. The directions say line honing may be indicated. When torquing, all is well, going in three steps. But at the specified torque, 50 ft-lbs, the crank will not rotate. It’s fine at the second step, 33ft-lbs. And of course, I’m in the Porsche wilderness where the local machinist who decked the cases and heads has no fixture to hone the cage. Ideas?
  13. I just noticed something similar last week on my turbo. I was pretty worried so I took the rare step of consulting a mechanic (my Quickjack is worthless for the Cayenne.) He found it was the power steering pump but said it wasn't a critical situation. I just hate drips! So check that. You will need to drop the belly pan and it helps to use a lift.
  14. As posted in another forum, it is a European requirement that speedometers read fast. It dates back to the 70s! My Porsches run about 2 mph, my Chevy truck about 4, and the BMWs about 3. That's according to Illinois' numerous radar speed displays.
