  1. It just pry's off with your hands both are the same number 996 423 210 03 cap, cluth=clutch ? Scott
  2. I was talking to friend of mine [owns a Porsche shop] he said he say's allot of problems with bent linkages in the Boxster, because people get in a hurry and push the linkage to the bending/tweaking point. The difference you are seeing are the temperature variations in the tranny oil. My guess.. I would lift the Boxster/jack stand it and have some one go through the gears and see if you see if you have any binding. The only reason I say this, it is easier to check your tranny linkage first; then pulling your center console and shifter. Scott
  3. Thank you for having a really well done site. I point people to your site often for a real "how to for dummies approach." I mean no disrespect for the "Dummy" part, it is just well done and easy to understand. Scott
  4. Send me an e mail and I will help you. Scott
  5. Unbalanced spacer, if it is not balanced [more metal on one side then the other]; it is similar to an unbalanced tire except harder to fix. The only way to fix this problem [economically] would be to balance the wheel on the car, if you can compensate for it [good], usually you have to add more weight then you really should. If you have a friend with a Porsche, let them try it and see what happens. rule out the paper thin spacer. Usually those types of problems don't appear until you get really thick spacers, and poorly made. The adapters are notorious for this due to so many variables being thrown in with different [cheap] bolts, quickly made, etc... Scott
  6. Thank you, No, it's all done by hand [no spray], I have done a little study on the engine compartment temps and have found in the areas I painted, they were nominal. Most of the plastic parts would of melted before my paint had problems, I did this in back in May and it looks the same [just looked], the only thing that has changed is the wrapping of the shifter cables has rubbed on the engine lid some. I used Plasti-Kote paint from Wallmart, excellent multi purpose paint quit durable. Very little taping... You could do it, I can tell you what I learned not to do... Drop me an e mail Scott
  7. I agree with your frustration, If you were to combine all the problems you are having or have had, I would think you should think about maybe getting another one. It seems the build QA has had somebody sleeping on the job. You have had way to many weird problems for me to believe that in the long run it won't get worst. Just my 2 cents.
  8. Here is a part site: http://www.paragon-products.com/Porsche_Boxster_s/22.htm Everything else : http://www.pelicanparts.com/index.htm
  9. I believe your money would be better spent making your own intake tube. The plastic pieces end up being nothing more then a few pieces of plastic. The only hard part is the MAF bung, but if you can bare with cutting your own air box apart. you can use your bung, and put a cone filter on it's cut end. The other sophisticated part is the plastic bent shield which your cone filter would sit in. It looks like someone bent a small sheet of plastic into an L shape. Food for thought - The problem with some of the intakes is they use 3" plus tubes with rubber joining pieces. This less then adequate design creates turbulence off of the little lips each joining piece make, thereby negating the improved intake. This is why a good machinist will port and polish intakes, to stop turbulence and create a smooth intake. The better design is to have one piece from the cone filter to the throttle body [TB]. The smoother the better; a piece of mandrel bent aluminum will be the best [economical], if you really want to get touchy, then insulate the tube to keep the charge as cold as possible. The colder the charge = denser burn and efficiency, power will be your reward. Scott
  10. Weird... good luck, bad production, you will probably find other stuff wrong later. Scott
  11. Fuse assignments Row B 7 Brake lights, cruise control BTW- check your brake lights before you crawl underneath. They are on the same fuse. Scott
  12. I detailed the engine compartment with TSP and some brushes a little water, all by hand took about an hour. It was quick and without to much effort, just careful not to scrub or push to hard. I will do the whole thing later. I did this after...
  13. Just to eliminate one problem, is the lip of your front hood below your bumper edge. If you were to run your hand from the top of your bumper towards the hood, does your hand drop a little onto the hood equally on both sides. Scott
  14. Woops... something duped on me, well like the first one anyway. Scott
  15. At the bottom of add a reply, you will see a tag which says "file attachments". if you pop a pic you will need to save it in less then 120K and attach. It is pretty easy.

  17. Pull the other side to figure out the way it is supposed to look. It seems to me that the spring must be compatible with something, have you tried the wrecking yards. Maybe a brake place that does Porsche brakes, they might have an old one sitting around, is there anyway to heat up yours and bend it to the shape you need as a temporary fix. If it is not to mangled. I can give a wrecking yard a call on Monday that deals with Boxsters if you want me too. Can you post a digital shot for me to compare to if I find it. Scott
  18. "Ouch! Took my '99 Boxster 2.5 (40k) through a touch-free car wash this morning. The car was running perfectly (and always has). This is the kind of wash that hoses your car down with high pressure soap and water. While in the wash I heard a horrible mechanical sound and my engine seized. I think the high pressure water got forced into the air intake and into the cylindars. The car wash is only a block from my house, so the car wasn't even up to operating temp yet. I had the car towed to my mechanic. His preliminary diagnosis is water in the cylindars, but he won't know for sure until next week. Has anyone heard of this happening before? I'm looking at needing a new motor. Obviously, I'd like to have the car wash pay. As for new motors, can I replace with a more powerful one? What are my options? Thanks." http://forums1.roadfly.org/porsche/forums/.../5684118-1.html
  19. I think Tool Pants hatchet idea may become expensive :) It does make laugh to see it though...
  20. So the brake pad was loose and that is what caused your clanking sound, and not your spacers. Strange occurence.... Scott
  21. Someone told you to turn your vehicle off, and then back on while you are doing 15 MPH. I would steer away from that disaster waiting to happen. I could see it now, wheel locks up, and you can't turn it OH.... OH ...:( Maybe on a dyno... Scott
  22. All you need to remember is whatever you added in spacers, you need to add the same length in lug bolts. You need to take in consideration the spacers on the lug bolts also, if you did not go far or fast, I would not worry about damage. Scott
  23. Can you lift your vehicle jack it up and see if you have any play in the wheel, even better is to see if you can torque your wheels are they loose. ~also~ The bolts you bought may be to long for the spacer. Scott
  24. Check you E Mail. I defer my Guru'dom to Tool Pants, He is the true Boxster Guru. I will help you though and give you as much information as I can. Thank you, Scott
