  1. Hi, A porsche is a fast car and a Mercedes is a status car. I wonder if a SL500 AMG could make the difference? Paul
  2. Hi, I think the black rubber striip was a curb alarm. The areodynamics of a flat bottom car tends to suck the car to the road. Paul
  3. Hi, Sounds like not using racing brake fluid. I was recommened to use the blue race fluid. Paul
  4. Hi, I run my car in manual 100% of the time. I hit the rev limit a few times at the track. I installed a G-tech that has a shift light which helped alot. Paul
  5. Hi, The 996 turbo has about 50 more horsepower. The little bit more in speed would show on track lap times. A 997 S and a 996 turbo are both well balanced cars that run well. I would guess that the turbo could do about 4 secounds per lap faster at Thunderhill. Paul Larson
  6. Hi Jean, Remeber that there are three oil pumps pushing oil all over the place. You can drive this car without warming it up. The car and motor are made to be pushed. At the last time trial, I was running at 7 miles per gallon. The car ran wonderful. Enjoy driving your car. Paul Larson
  7. Hi, While Time Trialing the car, you run your laps with the windows down. I noticed the other day all the dust I have in the back of the car. I was wondering if the dust would decrese if the roof hatch was open. The question is, will the car be faster with the roof hatch open or close with all windows open? I am sure that the Germans have done tests like this but us Americans may not be able to get this information. Logic would tell us that the car would be faster with the roof hatch close but maybe the interior car pressure would improve with the roof hatch open. I will run some racing laps in the future and will experiment with the roof hatch. Paul Larson
  8. Hi, I talked to a dealer and you can order a GT-3 with a factory installed roll bar cage. You can also order it with the optional air conditioning. Paul Larson
  9. Hi, I have a tiptonic and I took it to the racetrack two weeks ago. The tiptonic is a geat around car town. I tend to drive it a lot like you would drive a motorcycle. Its like speed shifting at every light and stop sign. Paul Larson
  10. Hi, This small picture shows my pipes after one time trial. Paul LarsonPIPES.bmp
  11. I just put the 5mm spacers on and they came with the little screws. The car hadles better with the spacers and it is easier to clean the brake claipers. Paul Larson
  12. Hi, The dealer told me that there is a lot of work in removing the dials. I also read a report that a guy had this done and then could not get rid of a rattle noise. Paul Larson
  13. Hi, Replacing the air filter takes some time. There are a lot of srews to undo before you can split the air cleaner box. Paul Larson
  14. Hi, I did mine on my sloping driveway. The front was higher then the back and I am sure that I got all eight quarts out of it. I used two catch pans. I did not have to lift the car. The oil filter is close to the drain plug. The Porsche oil filter is a seperate filter. The filter will also need a new o-ring. Also get a new washer for the drain plug. Add seven quarts and drive the car around the block. Then add oil as needed. Do not over fill the oil. Paul Larson
  15. Install is in the reverse order. If this works okay then let me know and we'll move this to the 997 DIY section. Thank's Loren! The directions were perfect, I just took a bit of careful time figuring out the Disconnect plug connection on the hot film mass air flow meter..seems the locking lever is on the back side I replaced the air filter and it took me about 45 minutes. I might have spent some time cleaning the parts once I had them out. I lost a rubber bushing that the air cleaner sits on but I found it the next day. Paul
