  1. Per my Palm 162kW = 220 hp(metric) = 217hp(550ft-lbf/s) so yeah this is 217 American HP
  2. FWIW My 02S delivered in Feb 02 had RMS replaced July of 2002 with 5-7,000 miles on the engine. I now have over 40,000 miles and it hasn't leaked since.
  3. My car has never leaked in a car wash. I choose a carwash wand or garden hose and a sheepskin mitt over touchless, but this is due to touchless not really cleaning as opposed to a problem with leaks. Water in the air intake should really only be a issue if the engine is running.
  4. There is a guy who hangs out at 986forum.com who has offered to do guage faces is various colors(sorry I don't have a link to him). You might ask over there.
  5. No This is a daily driver - not a temperamental exotic. .5-1.5 quarts Rear Main Seal(RMS) could fail at any time on any model year - usually a slow leak motor mounts sometime fail around 100K Wheel Bearings sometimes go out Plugs can be changed by an amateur. Taking off the wheel makes access easier. I think every 60K miles There is a whole section on top failures - they do happen but are not excessively expensive unless you crack the plastic rear window The closest thing to a common flaw is the RMS. The top latch seems to wear out. Before purchasing a Boxster, I personally think one should consider which of the 3 older engine choices makes sense. Somewhat underpowered 2.5L (97-99), adequately powered 2.7L(base 99-), moderately powered 3.2L(S).
  6. Notification sticker of emergency trunk release in case one finds oneself trapped inside
  7. quite right, confused over the terminology. I was thinking US was RHD (as in we drive on the Right Hand Side of the road) rather than LHD (Left Hand Driver seating position) Left Hand Drive makes no sense as the car is Rear Wheel Drive with torque steer mostly pulling to the right. :D
  8. Why disappointed 2HP out of the evo isn't either good or bad - it seems about average. You exhaust choices may have been poor. A decent header/cats/evo/ecu upgrade yields 30-35HP. To maximize your HP gains, find out when Gunther is coming to a town near you. I don't trust GIAC since they also make a piggyback chip that is worthless.
  9. Hoping this isn't a double post I remember someone (Trygve) measuring and graphing and coming up with an error rate of -5% + -2MPH(3KPH). Here is a link to a tire size calculator page http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculato...p?action=submit Here is a link to a PPBB post explaing why you might not care http://www.ppbb.com/board/museum/te-marer3.htm Personally, I would consider tire sizes like 245/40/18 in front and 285/35/18 in the rear for reasons of added traction rather than as an attempt to correct a speedometer error.
  10. So from what you say, LHD Headlights would be illegal and provide poor light in the US, while US RHD headlights will work for driving on both sides of the road but might be illegal in certain countries? If so, is there an advantage to LHD lights(better pattern)?
  11. 1) I wouldn't do it. Personally, I am nervous about mounting a heavy object high in the car where it could fly around in an emergency. I created a homemade bracket for under my seat for about $10 http://blueturban.com/auto/photos_e1.html 2) Almost everyone requires METAL/METAL contact for the fire extinguisher mount. You would have to remove the carpeting behind the seats each time you mounted this for a track day. Removing the carpeting is fairly quick (5 minutes?). It makes the interior louder and gives a racing, aggressive 'bad girl' look to the interior. 2b) attaching to the rollbars might also qualify as metal to metal contact if you remove the rollbar padding. Since I remove the 2 outboard sections of the rollbar padding to install the BK anyway, removing the small center section of padding would look OK. This would allow you to conceal the holes for mounting the extinguisher bracket behind the padding, but would require drilling the rollbar. Drilling the rollbar might raise safety concerns. Clamping metal to metal around the rollbar is not recommended as you would scratch the paint. My 2 cents - your choices may vary.
  12. On MY 02S, I believe the red pullout for charging the Battery is near the bottom. In your photo it is near the top - but it is hard for me to research since my Boxster is in the shop for another week
  13. My impression of BillyBoat on a 2.5L Boxster is a loss of 3-6HP. I don't know where I formed this opinion, but it was when i was surfing PPBB 2 years ago - so I might just be blowing smoke. I am fairly confident the Billy boat doesn't help a 2.5L and I am almost positive it will hurt a 3.2L. I wouldn't pay $500 to lose HP but some folks might choose to trade HP for a louder exhaust.
  14. It has been ranging between 5-35 degrees outside. This car has 4 or 5 radiators with 3 of them for cooling and has never show any tendency to overheat including a trackday at 102 degrees. Pictures of a 3rd radiator kit make it look like the hose coupling would be simple. I plan to replace/repair the radiator as soon as possible, but under the circumstances I think it is a reasonable question. BTW: 8-10 weeks waiting to schedule a body shop is a lot longer than I want to spend in a rental car.
  15. 2-4 HP is possible. This is the cheapest HP you will find on this car. Better sound is guaranteed. There is a higher risk of any oiled filter fouling your MAF ($$)
  16. That's a good quote to take back to the dealer who says everything is normal. If you don't get satisfaction, and you believe it is a problem - you might ask the dealer to put you in touch with the PCNA rep.
  17. Black box is the box that used to be under the 986 driver's seat?
  18. I need a right side Litronic - anyone need a left?
  19. Yesterday I smashed the passenger front of my 02S. :drive: :cursing: I tore off the bumper cover, cracked the headlight and created a small radiator leak while crumpling the fender back against the wheel well. The car drives fine. Until I stopped there was no indication of damage from the driver's seat except for the sound of escaping coolant. My question is, can I safely bypass the passenger front radiator and drive the car while waiting for the bodywork to be scheduled?
  20. Sounds like the light switch doesn't it?
