  1. I have been having issues with my brake fluid light since I got my car 2 years ago. It lights up during my AX and DE runs, particularly when I engage ABS trail braking into a corner. I understand that it's due to fluid sloshing around the reservoir. The pedals have always felt fine, so I tend to ignore it. (The light always turns off when I cycle the ignition.) In the past 2-3 events, in addition to the brake fluid light, the "PSM off" fault also comes on. The car will continue to run without problem, and the both lights will extinguish when I shut off the car after my session. (I remember the "PSM off" fault also (first) came on when I spin the rears a lot trying to get up an icy slope.) What's going on? Is it just PSM getting confused thinking it need to engage with a low brake fluid level, so it throws the code? Is it something more serious? I have a 2001S with PSM. I use Toyo RA-1's and Pagid Yellows on track. Thanks, Toby
  2. How loud is it when you remove the padding above the engine cover? (With engine cover closed?) Can one reasonably do a 5 hr road trip in it?
  3. My low beams were out yesterday. (I saw them came on, then both immediately went off) I suspect it is a bad headlight switch. Is changing the switch a DIY proposition? What would the dealer charge for it? Thanks, Toby
  4. I agree. You may consider replacing the joint.
  5. far left? maybe on your car! ;) Yes far left for my 2001 S. I know 'cause it's on right now. (again)
  6. CEL stands for Check Engine Light. It's on the far left. It's in all models. You are in great shape if you haven't seen it.
  7. Do you inflate the front tires 36lbs also? If so it's quite a bit high. The factory recommends 29lbs. There are quite a few causes for wear in the rear. The boxster come out of the factory with ~2 degree of camber which tends to wear the inside (unless(!) the car is tracked/AX often :) ) The toe setting need careful alignment to get right also. Do you have pictures of your tires?
  8. Russ, I imagine that your CV boots are not all worn out the same time? You might want to replace them only when they break. If I understand correctly, they are really not "preventative maintenance" items. (They just fail when they "feel like it") The CV joints tend to fail if the car is tracked hard. You may want to inspect them often (e.g. during tech inspection before each DE) Cheers, Toby
  9. I just got a cat replaced free of charge at the dealer, even as I bought the car used and non-CPO. I live in VA. You should check your owners manual for coverage in TX.
  10. Sorry to hear that. You should definitely research laws on used car warranty in Florida, and failing that the small claims court process.
  11. Hi Loren, Here is the history: 1) The original fault codes came on within 1 month after I bought the car back in October 2005. The codes were P0133 and P1275. (aging O2 ahead of cat, cylinder 1-3) I cleared the code a couple times, but each time the CEL came back after a few months. I finally changed the sensor out in August 2006. 2) Within one month (during the next DE) it threw a P1276. (aging O2 ahead of cat, cylinder 4-6) I cleared that code and wait for it to recur, which never did. 3) A week after that, it gave me the cat failure code. (cylinder 1-3, although I don't remember the exact code.) Clear it and it came back immediately. I took the car to the dealer, who replaced the cat under emission warranty. 4) I got another P0133 and P1275 last month. I cleared it and it hasn't recurred (yet.) The car saw quite a bit of DE action last year, but the fault code appeared before I took the car to the track for the first time. Thanks for your help! Toby Speed Yellow 2001 Boxster S
  12. Hi djomlas, Did you manage to fix your spoiler? I just had the same problem. Spoiler will not come up all the way, and the spoiler fault light (on the dash) did not come on. I have double-checked that it only comes up halfway when I reach 75mph. When I took off the spoiler cover last weekend and try to raise and lower it manually, it fully extended once, and then revert back to the problem. I went to the dealer, and this morning they mentioned something like "motor failed", and asked me to change out the motor for $900. Thanks! Toby Speed Yellow 2001 Boxster S
  13. Hi everyone, I have been reading this forum for a while now, and here is my first post... A pre-cat O2 sensor failed in my car once, and it was followed by a cat failure. When the dealer exchange the (for free), they told me that the exhaust gas overheated, and "burnt away" the internals of the cat. (I track the car.) On the downside...the brand new O2 sensor is throwing the same "aging" code as before... any suggestion on where should I look next? Thanks! Toby Speed Yellow 2001 Boxster S
