  1. I'm a bit confused about this subject, my current car being the first P-car I've owned in over 30 years. For the tiptronic S transmission, I had read and heard the tranmission is fluid coupled (ala slush box) on the first 2 gears only, and then on 3-5 it is direct drive. I also recently read the same things in the May 2008 edition of Panarama - page 81. So, if this is true then potential power lost in 3rd gear (to rear wheels, 2 wheel drive) has to be the same or pretty close to the 6 speed manual transmission, but definitely not as bad as a regular automatic transmission. Am I assuming correctly? How does the tip bypass the fluid coupling in gears 3-5???

  3. I have the PS19 damptronics installed and love the setup. Car was lowered, aligned, and corner balanced. Now it is a rocket on rails. Since they are not PSS9s (you want to keep using PASM), they have only 2 modes - normal and sport, controlled by the PASM button. I find "sport" to be pretty harsh on uneven freeway and other roads...
  4. Oh, i understand. I'm not sure anyone messes with the TCU. I just stay in manual mode with my tip and downshift, if needed.
  5. Did you get the tool for the shock/coil adjustment? If not got back to the shop and ask for it - it came with the coilovers. Thanks for your replies. The shop I went to for this work (a local speed shop) said they were installing PSS9, but what they really installed were PS Damptronics, because my car has PASM. Only ride height is manually adjustable (with the tools from bilstien in the kit). The damping and firmness are controlled by the PASM button (normal and sport). Sorry for the dumb questions. I could have have fully adjustable PSS9s but elected to keep using PASM..
  6. Excellent!. If anyone made the wheel you are looking for - it would be FVD. Like I wrote before, I love my FVD paddle shifter. Although I do hit the horn button whilst changing gears sometimes. I'm not sure what patch you are writing about, but my install was a complete drop-in - no software changes at all.
  7. FVD has some great steering wheels (http://www.fvd.us/), but they do cost some dough. I have their paddle shifter wheel and love it. I do not know if they make a multifunction steering wheel with paddles as well.
  8. I searched the forum and can't seem to find an answer to this question. How do you adjust PSS9 coilover shocks? The speed shop that installed them will not provide me instructions on how to change the setup - bump and height. They put in a PSS9 PASM coilover system (f/r) a few months ago. I'd like to play around with some of the settings. What do I turn on the shocks? Where are the dials on the shocks? What do the numbers on the shock dials actually mean? Should the dials all be set to the same setting? Do I need to jack up the car and remove wheels to adjst them? What tools are needed? Did any tools come with the shock kit (and I did not get)? Any help would be appreciated....

  10. Hi Paul! Where is in Redwood City? Do you have the address? I like to try it with my 05 997s. And how do you mix them? Is it half tank of 101 octane plus the other half super unleaded? giahan, Looks like your are in San Jose...there is a 76 at 3010 Almaden Expwy (at Foxworthy Ave) that also sells racing fuel (100 octane). I believe they have a blending chart that shows how to mix with premium to get to target octane ratings. I have a Supercharge in my 05 997s so can I just add about half tank of 100 octane when my tank is empty without adding any other regular gasoline? Is this engine design to run 100 plus octane? My understanding is that the only damage you would do is to your bank account. The pump with the racing fuel is right next to the regular fuels, so you can do the blend right at the pump to get to whatever your target octane is. The price/performance increase as you go to higher octanes is such that you would not likely want to go with pure racing fuel for street driving. See also http://www.motortrend.com/features/perform...fuel/index.html You could also disconnect the battery (negative terminal) for about 15 seconds to reset the adapted ECU programming. You'll get error lights for PSM & PASM at first - they go away after you drive....

  14. Like MY996TT writes, get a porter cable or equiv. polisher. And check out that website. I have tried all sorts of products on my black 997C2S - the only brand to fill or remove clear coat scratches pretty quickly is Griots machine polish 3. I've tried zaino, p21s, sonus, mothers. meguires (sp) and others. Nothing worked as well as griots. And you must wax after the polish or use a detail spray..
  15. The C4 and C4S seem to be pretty close to the C2 versions, at least 0-60. But the C2 version have a higher top speed - which may not really matter...... Any Porsche is a blessed gift and wonderful to own and drive. I drive mine daily.
  16. Txs! I'm familiar with GMG and a couple other places that may help. Yes, I pondered the SC question awhile before I went for it - worth it and I know it passes the running emissions tests, but the visible changes might freak out some people.......
  17. ED, thanks for answering. I'm told (haven't had to test it yet) I would fail the visual, but be OK on the running tests. Anyone (PM or email or?) know of any "friendly' smog testing stations in southern california that will be ok with engine mods???
  18. Welcome. check out the registry for all of the different looks and modifications we have done to our P-cars. They are wonderful. I'd go with a 997 c2s with the gt3/gt2 aerokit, or move up to a GT3. I believe the C4/C4S is only an inch or so wider in the back, but adds significant weight. In the end, they are all P-cars though and are beautifully crafted sports cars.
  19. to ED: OK, so it passed VISIBLE inspection (even with K&N CAI), but failed the running tests??

  21. yes - V1 with PoP. Saved me a few hundred $ up in Northern CA last summer - I was not paying attention to speedo, V1 alerted me in time to back off before seeing the CHP car hidden on a right hand curve. Mount the v1 near the rear view mirror. Search renntech to find hard wire instructions.
  22. Yes we want more! Check out the parking lot or lift area of any "speed" shop, including Porsches - there you will find your answer. I've seen several 996 TT owners adding more power - up to 600hp. Same goes for Boxster, 996, and 997 owners. Some people (like me) do feel Porsches need more power, others are perfectly happy with a stock P-car. I needed more power and added a supercharger to my 2005 C2S. Just knowing and being able to use that added power "on demand" is another part of enjoyment that we Porsche owners can have. MORE POWER!!!! oh, and 101 octane gasoline!
  23. I just wondered about this - I used to race my 1976 911S targa at POC events (a long time ago). Does anyone know if POC or PCA rules allow a targa to run w/o roll bars??
