  1. Thanks for the suggestions, I sent my oil filter to Jake Raby let see what he comes up with. I don't believe the o-rings would end up in the sump. The chain tensioner a possibility, but I have never seen the material up close is it olive green and very pliable like a rubber gasket? Thank You.
  2. Hello, I am trying to get some feedback as to what the rubber residue in my oil filter could come from. It is definitely not metallic, it is pliable, has a rubbery feel to it and the color is olive green. It looks like a gasket material. It started to appear during last oil change 6k ago. My car is a 2000S with about 55k miles and always maintained perfectly. I thought it might be the AOS but I replaced it and the diaphragm which has the same olive colour was intact. I was told that when the previous owner had the valve cover resealed maybe they used a green compound but I checked the engine and the gasket material is black. I am running out of idea where is this coming from? Please anybody can help? Thanks in advance
  3. As I stated in my original thread I am interested in doing the following as preventive maintenance: Replace AOS Replace oil filler tube Clean Throttle Body I can also bring additional tools/parts for other projects (i.e. motive bleeder) if others need them. Thanks Loren for setting this up. Renaud.
  4. Hello Kirk, September would be great !!! My car is a Boxster and while changing the AOS, I would change the oil filler tube (definitely has some oil residue) and clean the throttle body while in there. I agree regarding the top, I just wanted to check if anybody had done it or would want to try it. I will have a shop do it after our WOCD since engine access is restricted with the glass window. I have a decent garage but I am located in Benicia so you would probably prefer to find a host in the Sacramento region. Renaud.
  5. Hello blinkwatt, Thank you for offering to help, I might take you up on that !!!! I can still wait a few months as I don't even get a puff of smoke, it is really as preventive maintenance as my car is now 8 years old. I would rather fix it now than wait for it to fail and have the car towed to the dealer. Let see if we get any other replies, if not I will contact you within the next couple of months. Thanks !!!! Renaud.
  6. Hello All, I would be interested in doing some preventive maintenance on my car (AOS + oil filler tube). I am sure I could use a few pointers on how to successfully tackle those jobs. It might be too much but I also have an alternative project if anybody is interested. Replacing the top with a new glass window one. We could fully document the procedure for others or have a few participants run that project in parallel on multiple cars. Sacramento is not that close for me but I really enjoyed meeting the team last time. Thanks !!!! Renaud.
  7. Hi, You should try taking a look at that site www.986fix.com The whole engine rebuilding is very well documented in videos. Good Luck !!!!
  8. Hello, I would be mainly interested in Loren's expertise with his PST2 !!! I bought a airbag deactivation bar so that I can take my kid in my car and I would need to turn that feature on. Also, I have had a front end shimmy got my tire speed balanced on the car twice and it is still not fine. At this point I will finish them off and switch to Michelin, but it would be nice to have somebody drive my car or let me swap wheels to confirm diagnosis. I could fine tune my short shifter setup as well if somebody has that tool that helps centering the shifter. I can bring motive bleeder, jack, stands, etc. Thanks. Renaud.
  9. Check but it might be the ignition switch which is a common failure on our car. I just had mine replaced last week and had the same symptoms. Check the archive. FYI you can get the part for $10 on autohauz, my mechanic charged me $50 for the part and 1hr of labor. I had a track day next day so I could not wait, otherwise I would have done it myself. Good luck.
  10. My car had only 25,000 miles when they found out that a cat was leaking. I had the car inspected just before my warranty expired.
  11. Hello All, Pretty cool document that I ran across in a French Porsche forum. There is a lot of data there but the pictures themselves are worth the download. I did post it in other forums as well Enjoy !!!! :renntech: http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/database/aspx...tabase=V&type=R (edit - corrected link - Loren)
  12. Hello, I have a 2000S with about 30k miles on it. Recently I have been a bot disappointed by the car breaking performance under hard braking, and since I still have the original pads and a first track day scheduled on Thursday I decided to change my pads. I installed Pagid blues on the front axle. I zip tied the sensors since there is no hole in the pads. Now I did not reinstall the "vibration dampers" that are glued to the back of the pads, I remembered reading somewhere to trash them. My new brakes do squeal at low speed. Should I have reinstalled teh vibration dampers with my new pagid pads? Thanks in advance for the reply
  13. I wiggled the connectors to the coils and took it out for a test drive. I could rev it past 6,000 RPMs and no check engine light came on. I will pay close attention to the CEL this week but this might have been the cause of a possible misfire at high RPMs.
  14. The car is running perfectly on all 6 cylinders. Everything is perfect except when I push it then I get a check engine light. All the install went fine, coil packs, plugs, etc.
  15. Hello, I just replaced my spark plugs on my 2000 Boxster S for the 30,000 miles tune up. The plugs are the right Beru ones and everything went fine. I went for a drive and after the engine warmed up, each time I would rev past 4,500 RPMs the check engine light would come up and disappear after about 3 seconds while I would slow down. I am going to drive it slowly for a few days but is this normal? I never had a check engine light before. Is it the ECU that is trying to recalibrate itself because the plugs are new? If so how long would it take before the car runs the same as before I replaced the plugs? Please tell me this is normal :( Thanks in advance for the feedback
  16. Thanks for your reply I suspect it is the central console since that is where I store my ipod. I might take you up on that one day, thanks for the offer !!! I am doing my 30k service in 2 weeks but I never read the fault memory. I guess everything is OK as long as you don't get a check engine light.
  17. Hi Loren, I do have this beep once in a while. I cannot identify what triggers it, I always make sure that everything was well closed. What is the significance of the beep? Thank You.
  18. Hello Orient Express, The installation was perfect thanks to your detailed instructions. I had to replace the fuse but the ground loop isolator was not needed. Thanks again for making this board such a great place to get information for our cars.
  19. Hello, I already have the audio lines connected to the Becker cable. This is what the ipod cable looks like (the sound is great but obviously it does not charge my ipod yet). The cable on top is plugged on the ipod. At the bottom I have the connector and the red power cable and black ground cable, I assume? So I should ignore the connector and plug the red cable to the green/black line on the phone harness and the black cable to the brown line on the phone harness. Do you just twist them together and tape them up with electrical tape? Thank you very much for your help.
  20. Orient Express, Let me try to summarize to see if I get this right. In the phone harness I free up the ground cable (brown) and switched power (green black. So that it charges only when the key is in the ignition). I will not use the connector itself. In the ipod power cable, I will also not use the connector itself. It has 2 other wires black and red. So should I use the split connector to hook up the switched power cable from the phone harness to feed into both the black and red cable from the ipod power cable? Now where do I plug the ground cable from the phone harness? Sorry I promised it was my last question. I will take pictures to share for others who might be challenged as well. Thank you so much.
  21. Thank you so much Orient Express !!!! I will try that this week-end.
  22. If I get you correctly this means that I take the cell phone connector harness apart. Find the 2 12volts cable, take the ipod power jack apart identify the power line as well and hook all of them through the wire tap connector. Is this right? Where do I plug the ground wire? Sorry about all these questions !!! Thanks for your informative replies.
  23. Thank You for your help !!! It still looks like I might need some help. That might be the perfect excuse for me to come to a car day. To plug the cell phone connector (for power right?) into my ipod power cable do I need to buy the phone power cable from Becker? I just want to make sure I have all the part so I can participate to one of Tool Pants session. Thanks a bunch.
  24. Hi, I found this picture on a V1 install it is a 1997 and mine is a 2000S so the harness might be different. Is there an easy way where I could directly plug that harness into the power cable (black with purple plastic end) from the previous picture? I don't understand anything about car electronics !!! Thanks.
  25. Hello, I did the becker auxiliary install last night. I did plug the RCA jack with an audio/power cable. Basically it has the 2 RCA jacks that you hook up into the becker auxiliary cable but it has 2 other connexions one for power and one for the dock plug. Where do I hook it up for power so it can charge the ipod? I don't want to rerun all the cables to the fuse box. Is there a way I could easily plug into the window switch? If somebody has a DIY picture of how I could plug the power in I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance :notworthy:
