  1. The gasket number specified earlier in this thread is the incorrect part. You need part number 996 106 316 51, as shown in the attached pic captured from the 996 PET:
  2. You can order back issues of Excellence from their web site.
  3. Amazon.com has it for $99.04 w/ free shipping for Amazon Prime members: http://www.amazon.com/UView-550000-Airlift...5805&sr=8-1
  4. So I dropped the engine. The photos show the rear height, and front and rear jack stand heights I needed to roll the engine out the back of the car using a combination of a Sears Craftsman ATV jack to support the engine and a cheap "jack in a box" type jack to support the transmission. The ATV jack has a minimum height of about 3-3/4", and there was probably 1/2" to spare between the sheet metal and the throttle body as the engine came out:
  5. Thanks, the pics you referenced in the other thread help quite a bit. Onward we go!
  6. I have the same question. Will removal of the rear bumper significantly aid the process?
  7. That was the point of my post. Just turning off A/C doesn't take the system out of Auto. The fan control has to be changed before it will go to Manual; at least that is the way it works on my '99. Apologies if the HVAC used in the later cars implement a different program.
  8. Turning off the A/C while the car is running will prevent the A/C from running when you restart the car, but it won't prevent the automatic temperature control from ramping the fan speed up/down to try to maintain the temperature set point. That function is disabled by pressing one of the fan speed control buttons to convert the temperature control to manual. If you do that before turning the car off, it will remain in the manual mode when you restart the car.
  9. You don't need to remove the serpentine belt or the alternator to remove the starter, that's just bogus information. Only the throttle body and the plenum piece that the throttle body is mounted on need to be removed. The fit is tight but the starter will slide out, just as the factory manual says.
  10. '99 C2, somewhat daily driver, 2 previous owners, 50K miles. Just replaced starter and the RMS was replaced a year ago at 46K miles. Appears to remain dry, but time will tell. Other than those items, just regular maintenance.
