  1. I have fabricated a 2-DIN leather covered dash panel for my 7" Alpine headunit. I'm now finding it somewhat dull looking since it has a large almost 1" high strip at the top. The thing that would look beautiful on it would be some "P O R S C H E" raised, silver, lettering. I found this key fob in the web: http://www.eagleday.com/poblleke.html. Does anyone know the size of the letters? If they are about 3/8" or a bit less, they would be perfect for my purpose.
  2. Thanks for the research and info! The good people at Rennlist have already sent me a picture of a sample, painted Speed Yellow, illustrating that the outer ring is left in silver as well as the whole interior of the wheel. The hub cap is painted and the bolts are not painted.
  3. Has anyone got or seen a 996 Turbo with this option? My 996 Turbo has the standard 18" Turbo wheels, with M446 Coloured Porsche shield wheel cap and I'm considering reproducing the XD9 option (body colour is Basaltschwarz metallic), but I don't know the details: 1 - Is the wheel fully painted in the body colour, or is the outer ring left in silver? 2 - Are the bolts also painted or coated in black? 3 - Is the M446 hub cap also painted in black, minus the Porsche shield? Thanks in advance for any info!
  4. Hi all, Anybody tried this? 1 - Do they fit mechanically in a 996TT? 2 - Do I need to buy the 997 rails? 3 - Is the easier way to remove the safety belts from the stock seat and install them in the GT2 seats (for seat belt warning light connection)? 4 - Can I remove the airbags from the GT2 seats (the 996TT airbags are in the doors)?
  5. Hi all, I've been offered at a very reasonable price a pair of 997 sport seats. Mechanically I know they fit. What about airbag? Is the airbag control unit in the 996 compatible? My car has the full electrical comfort seats with heating system and memory. I would lose the amenities but gain lateral support. BTW, the 997 seats come from a RHD car and mine is a LHD. Would this also be a problem?
  6. Hi all, I have a lot of expensive audio hardware very visible in my trunk, which makes me uncomfortable opening the lid in public, so I thought of building a cover to hide all the stuff. It's going to be a mix of aluminium and pressed carton but I want to upholster it with matching carpeting. Does anybody know of a supplier, preferrably in Europe?
  7. That's just ridiculous.... Why on earth, if a car could, for example, checked by a Porsche authorised dealer, repaired as necessary and signed off by the dealer or even by a Porsche USA or Porsche Germany technician, not be able to be returned to service? Because some ***hole bureaucrat said so? It's a Porsche, not a Yugo! Must be treated with respect!
  8. It's just the round plug that you may damage. I would go for it and do the job.
  9. Hi, You need to first, take the headset off. My car is a German spec MY02 and had a Nokia headset. This has four screws attaching the phone holder to the the console. With the headset out, you'll notice a round plug. If it is the leather version then it's next to impossible to pry it out without damage, but take care and do your best. Under the plug you find a torx screw. Take it out. Then push the face panel of the console up until it slides off the two upper slots. Take it out. Then take the two now exposed torx screws out. The console is now loose in the front. Reach down the console and push it out to the right of the car from the back of the console panel until it unclips off. That's it!
  10. I have. They came back. Took it to the dealer, they replaced "some valves" and the codes came back. Will take the car there again in March...
  11. Hi, thx for the replies to all. I just thought it strange because all my other previous cars worked that way (left hand light only; regulations in my country also prescribe it that way) but they didn't have a lamp installed. But this car does have the lamp! A bit of a waste...
  12. Just curious how you know this has occurred ... is it that dramatic of a power loss where the car basically shuts down? Mmmmmm.... Interested on this too.
  13. Do I have a tail fog light problem? My car is a 996TT MY2002, LHD, Germany country option. Despite having two tail fog light lamps, both in fine working order, only the left hand side lights up. I've seen plenty of cars that work that way, but they don't even come with a right side fog lamp. Is this a feature or a problem?
  14. I'm receiving an Alpine iXA-W407BT tomorrow to install in my MY02 Turbo (Europe). My unit, contrary to the US version, has a Vehicle Display Interface socket and a second separate steering wheel controller interface. This second thing is obviously of no use to the 996, but it would be cool to have navigation instructions, FM station name, song name, etc, displayed in the cluster dot matrix. Alpine sells a gazillion different Vehicle Display interfaces, for as many cars, but alas, none shows as compatible with any Porsche. Question: is the display a VAG part with which a VW/Audi/Seat Alpine interface would work? I would ask Alpine Europe but that's sort of useless since their support sucks.
  15. I did that myself and there's no problem at all. I replaced it with a craddle for my iPhone by Carcomm.
  16. I now decided to go full iPod, dropping CD/DVD support in my car but maintaining high quality sound, thus getting a new headunit, with 24bit DAC, full digital path from the iPod: enters the Alpine iXA-W407BT! To that purpose, I have ordered: Alpine iXA-W407BT, NVE-M300P, PXA-H100, KTX-H100 and KTX-550iD (iPod drawer). This last item arrived first. I tested it in place of the 4-CD dash box(which was already in place of the original navigation drive) and hated the looks, so I decided to modify it a bit. Here's the photos: Looking like an innocent 4-CD dash box But then the rear end looks odd.... Is it a 1-DIN headunit? Ahhhh! It's a 160Gb iPod Classic drawer! Complete with 500 ripped CDs plus about 50 downloaded albums of varying quality, all in Apple Lossless: When I get the rest of the stuff, I'll install it and post photos. Soon, my beloved MAX983HD will be up for sale at ebay...
  17. As promised my pics below. Note the damage to the right edge of the horseshoe :( . A new one is coming from ebay for 50 euro!
  18. SOLVED!!!! Initially, I tried the learning process as above and the result was.... a closed sunroof with the windbreaker sticking fully out! LOL! This would have been interesting, noisewise at 200kph+! So that wasn't it... I looked again in detail and a flashlight to the inhards of the articulation of the left and right arms with the windbreaker. Something didn't look quite right since, when depressing the arms fully down manually, the windbreaker would still stick out. So I figured there was a dislocated shoulder (...) and pressed the windbreaker down manually and using a screwdriver and gentle force, I pryied both left and right arms up. I was delighted to hear a healthy click sound and the joints slotted into place! Beautiful and everything is just fine in sunroofland!
  19. Mmmm.... I didn't bother since I dismissed it as a mechanical problem, it sure won't hurt trying, which I'll do. Will keep you posted!
  20. Hi, Just completed my refinish of my Clarion MAX983HD install, which I originally did in 2008. When I saw the upgraded 2-DIN kit I decided to modify my install to take the new powder coated bezel. Since my car was a PCM1 car, the 2-DIN aperture was not centered in the space available and I couldn't use the previous piano black bezel. I used a mix of the Clarion supplied thin bezel and a strip of Trieullionaire's bezel. The result was less than satisfying, so I bought part of the new kit: the bezel and the cage. The cage itself is a Pioneer product and is the best I've seen, miles ahead of what I had previously (Clarion Universal kit). It fits, slides and looks way, way better. That said, I had to cut quite a bit of plastic to fit the cage and setter, since the aperture was not centered. The setter was extremely useful in establishing what to cut, thank you! I installed the setter and the cage and reinforced the lower area with Milliput epoxy. After installation of the assembly, I slid the HU in just beautifully snug. Then I found that the bezel was a bit too snug.... When I opened the motorised front panel, it either spit the bezel out or just couldn't close... Took the bezel to my Proxxon milling machine and cut 1.5 mm off the lower strip and voila, perfect! I'll post a couple of photos when I shoot them.
  21. Today my MY02 Turbo's sunroof refused to close during a highway ride. BAck in the garage, I found that, for some reason, the windbreaker does not go down enough and sticks out, the sunroof stumps against it a bit (3-4mm) and goes back. If I press the windbreaker down with a flat nose screwdriver and take it out JUST before the panel shuts, it closes just fine. From what I could understand without disassembly, the windbreaker is springloaded open during the opening process and it's the panel itself that pushes the left and right arms of the windbreaker down during the closing process. I found no visible reason for the windbreaker not going down completely. Any ideas?
  22. I don't believe you'll be able to get good lOEM ooking results with any sort of manual tool. If you have access to a milling machine and to someone who knows how to operate it, then yeah, it is more than feasible with excellent results. Otherwise forget about it.
  23. Thinking out loud.... What would it take to convert a MY02 996TT (mine...) to a 996TT S? I know of the X50 kit, PCCB brakes and "S" rear lid decal (). 1 - Is there anything else required? 2 - Is it cost effective in terms of driving pleasure? Bear in mind I don't track my car regularly; it's my daily driver. 3 - How much do you estimate this conversion would cost? Thinking in the 20,000 euro region, done in Porsche Center. 4 - Am I correct in that the PCCB brakes have an advantage only in fatigue, not in actual braking power or reduction of braking distances?
  24. Hi, I have purchased an older version kit from you before and would like to upgrade. Can you sell me only the following parts: # High Grade Aluminum Bezel - Powder coated in a factory textured finish (NOT PIANO BLACK) # Custom Support Bracket # 2-Din Housing (cage sleeve) & Housing # Custom Porsche 2-Din Housing (cage sleeve) Setter I have sent the same question to your ebay post but I have received no reply. Please note that my car is a MY02 911 Turbo originally with a 2-DIN slot already. Best regards, Luis Alves
