  1. That's the color of mine too... and I am in the process of renovating the leather and the interior. For the leather, you can purchase the correct dye color online. What I am interested is in either dyeing different materials, and in manufacturing some other components. For this I'd need the actual color values. This can be achieved with a colorimeter but I don't have access to one. A paint shop wherever I end up purchasing the dye might have a colorimeter for their own purposes, but I'd need to know such RGB values for design purposes (in the computer).
  2. Anybody knows the RGB values of the OEM Boxster Red color? I cannot find it online and all the pictures and samples online are not true.
  3. Loren you are right it wasn't locked down correctly: what happened is that the two connectors that slide sideways to separate the cluster, were put back in place, but not all the way, whenever I did change the LED's before. When I messed around with it this time, they did get disconnected as they were barely in place, thus loosing contact progresively and thus some of the lights stopped working while the others worked. I probably fiddeled with the cluster a bit more and the two sliders moved even further, as they were loose, and the contact was lost altogether. And the lights went off. I realized that those two sliders are the ones that connect all the lights behind the analog gauges to the cluster. They do not affect the LCD's. It works now, thanks again!
  4. That's a good idea. I'll try. However, not only the LED's do not light up, but the green and blue bulbs do not either. Basically, all light on top part (behind analog). Gauges work though. And so do LCDs and LCD lights.
  5. www.porscheleds.com. To chance AC lights, you have to solder 22 LED's, small. The kit comes with 25 in case you burn a few.
  6. Yes, originally it has bulbs. Subsituted with 12v LED's (for the main lights). the green and blue and others are still original, and... they do not work either. I have a feeling that it is some sequencing issue with battery or related. Or, hazard switch as a possibility?
  7. I did. Actually I have LED's because I have replaced those before. They work.
  8. The hazard light switch in my 99 c2 cab tip stopped working and it was on "ON" position all the time. I did open the switch and I noticed that a little plastic hook (1mm here) broke down thus the switch lost its toggling capabilities. I have ordered a replacement switch and is coming this week. In the mean time, I did remove the springs from inside the switch so it would continously be in "hazard off" position and put it back. When I turned the car on, the analog lights in the cluster did not turn on. The lcd's do turn on yes. It is not a bulb issue. The blinker lights indicators (green) and long lights inticators (blue) do not work either. All lights in the cars, the actual lights, DO work. But no light in the backlit displays. I did try the following: Checked the 3 connectors behind the cluster - Disconnected the battery. I got mixed results; blinker indicator worked... etc, but nothing at the same time. I thought disconnecting the baterry would reset and do the trick, but it didnt... now all analog lights do not work (LCD lights work and analog meters work). Any ideas? I read in forums but I did not find anything specific other than "get a new cluster" and I do not think this is the problem as the indicators have worked depending on sequencing (now all dead period). Right now, I have stopeed messing with it and will wait for the switch to arrive. Could it be the hazard switch? It shouldn't....? Any other suggestions, please?
  9. That is probably good advice... simmer on it and most likely the urge to do the facelift should fade. I kind of like the new round lights, and I find plenty of justification such as "it is the traditional porsche light; it just looks better, etc.). But I also remember that the first time I saw them I did not like them at all. And, if you ask any kid out there, they generally discard the newer lights and favor the eggs (don't they say kids speak the truth? :D). I am not opposed to a conversion but it too often people regret having done it. Hey, I am starting to like my 99's slender nose. It used to be "lame", now I apreciate the almost retro look :)
  10. Porsche reman engine, around 13k plus taxes for a 99. for a 02, 1k less. add 2.5k for installation. However you cut it, there is no way you will spend less than 8k for rebuilt/install. Just need to look for right place.
  11. www.nrauto.com. I do not have experience with them. I heard that there is backlight loss (a bit too opaque). www.fvd.com (nice. but, expensive). However, if you find the right ones for your car, they are on sale now. www.6speedonline.com. Do a search for gauges_by_ken. Getting cheaper ones. Not for 99s, but yes for 02's. Or, you can pm me. I am manufacturing my own as I am customizing them (i.e. gemballa, techart) and did not like anything out there. If you want standard silver or white, you can just buy them that's probably the best option. I just do not like to compromise. In general, replacing the faces is pretty easy.
  12. I am still waiting for answers to the last question as well... anybody can throw any light on it? :)
  13. I just had the engine rebuilt. Cracked head and cylinder, so I did not have a lot of choices. I did my homework and yes, that price is good and correct. Most of the time, unfortunately, is spent in labor hours. It takes about 40 hours to put the engine back. The pieces are about 3k yes (I have the itemized list from the invoice. Make sure that they address upgrades while at it: IMS retrofit, crankshaft, etc. Some of the later year pieces already take care of potential issues regardless. The thermostat, make sure that they put one for European cars (it will make the car run cooler). Your cast is a 2002 so you should be able to reuse it with some guarantees (the 99s had porosity issues which lead to many more problems). Whether you need the rebuilt or not, as you can see the problem is that to get to the cylinder rings, they have to take the engine apart. The rings themselves are very inexpensive. But, since you have to pay for the labor.... you might as well pay for renovating the rest of the engine. That is why they recommended rebuilding. Add another few bucks for whatever they find along the way (they found out that the transmission mounts were worn out. This is usually about 15 hours of labor to take transmission and engine out to replace a $100 piece. Because the stuff was all out, they charged me only the cost of the piece. Just make sure that they are good Porsche mechanics. And get a second opinion, it is a lot of money. If you have to rebuild, after the traumatic experience you'll find yourself with a new engine. Good luck, and sorry to hear about your issues.
  14. I am curious about this too. Try this question in the main 996 forum, it will get answered faster.
  15. You can recolor the top, in black, if you choose. It works well, and it is easy. I did it but cannot remember the brand. I think I did find it in this forum. Will find in garage and post.

  17. Contact LN they answer the phone. They work with other people and they acknowledge it, although yes they have a partnership with Flat6.
  18. My car, 107,000 miles, not one problem. No leaks. No nothing. All in a sudden, intermix... cracked cylinder and head... right now at shop doing engine rebuild. Things happen. the 99s have the issues that they have. You will purchase some peace of mind, regarding IMS and RMS. Remember, though, that you still might experience cracked head/cylinder, which you can also address with Nickies and new pistons. But at this point, you are looking at an over 10k bill, practically a new engine.
  19. Thanks. I hope so too. I checked engine prices at Sunset: 11k for a 3.4 with core - 13.5k for 3.6 with no core. Crazy. By the time you add the labor... you are over 15k.
  20. Got it. No Roock. Don't even want the potential issues. It is bad enough as it is.
