  1. Maybe now is the time to buy an intelligent (smart) charger and put it on it for a day or so ????? Donie
  2. By the time I see my car again it will have been sitting static ( without having been started or run) for about two months. I don't expect it will be flat but in case it's low in charge what's my best precaution? O.K. the remote locking will have gone 'asleep' after five days, so I need to get the key in the ignition pretty smartly before all hell breaks loose. If I do need to use jumper (booster) cables is there any DONTS? Donie
  3. What is the nature of the Porsche TSB against oil additives and why? There are some really good synthetic super lube additives available these days backed up by some serious technical data and testing. Donie
  4. I may have mentioned this before in an earlier post. Until recently my car ( and myself) were in Spain where I almost constantly had difficulty with third gear first thing in the morning, until a few miles (KM's) were covered and the gearoil warmed up. You could feel( through the gear stick) the synchro ring slowing down the gear hub, and it was difficult to actually select the gear. Then suddenly it seemed to stop ...no more problem. .........until now that is, and it's fourth gear this time....same symptoms. The only difference is I'm in Ireland now and it's much colder. Should I change gear-oil to a different grade. The car had only covered 14,000 miles. Again when the box is warmed-up there is little difficulty. Geof or , sorry, TP any thoughts? Donie

  6. Calling all Hackers !!!! I had been trying to source porsche Nav CD's for Europe for PCM 1 for 2002 and nothing was turning up on Ebay so I asked my Porsche dealer, only to be told that they are no longer available and that I will have to update the CD drive to 16 bit at a cost of about $1700 ( 1400 Euros) Has any of the merry band of hackers, especially computer geniuses, considered a modification to the early drive to increase it's memory capabity to allow it to read the later 16 bit CD's, as the saying goes it can't be rocket science. ?????
  7. Am I supposed to be eternally grateful that 'he' 'she' 'it' or 'they' did not decide to take the headlights etc.,etc., ? I just can't feel that way yet. .......as to the question you put as to why they were stolen, vandalism or ???? I'd probably prefer to think that it was simply vandalism rather than entertain the thought that it might have been some Porsche owner who wouldn't spend the money on replacing his mirrors, but preferring instead to steal them from a fellow owner. I'd like to think Porsche owners have a bit more integrity.
  8. ToolPants. How come they could just pop them out that easily? If it's that easy it's a wonder it doesn't happen more often. Do the new ones just pop in with nothing to secure them in place?
  9. I've just had my two door-mirror glasses stolen from my 02 Boxster S. What are they going to cost me?
  10. What can be safely used to remove tree sap ( resin like substance) from the car paintwork, without fear of doing damage?. This stuff has set hard, and feels like heavy paint over-spray when you run the flat of your hand over it.
  11. Hi Loren, It's PCM 1 a 2002 VIN No. Car. Donie
  12. I have been trying to update the nav system with later Porsche NavTech CD's than the ones that came with the car. However the system keeps telling me that it is experiencing errors in reading the CD's. Does it take some considerable time and travel distance, for this to take place? Anyone got any experience with this?
  13. I recently had the need to purchase new CR 2032 Litium batteries for the remote controls on the key, and had to settle for Kodak brand. Much to my amazement they started to lose their 'punch' after only about a week, and actually would not activate or de-activate the alarm, with very annoying results. I suppose Duracell are the best, or what else?. Anyone had any similar exerience with short life lithium cells in the keys ?
  14. Do you have the part number for the key carcase ? The cover/top with the three remote control sections is damaged . Is there a front bumper plastic guard for the bottom of the Aerokit (droop) bumper available?
  15. I have an Aerokit 11 fitted to a Boxster S and since the front end is so low, it's a constant problem when parking in parking lots, ands also some steep gradients on driveways etc., Has anyone fitted a parking sensor kit to the front end?
  16. A few days ago I noticed my oil level was a couple of bars low on the electronic device on the dash, and since I had a a litre of Mobil 1 0-40 I topped up with some from the container. I re-checked and thought it was still a bit low, and since there only about a third left remaining in the bottle, I put the rest in. Now it's showing a bit 'over-full' !! It's not smoking at the exhaust , but I'm wondering if it might cause over-pressure in the crankcase...... or worse!!
  17. At what stage is the rev limiter supposed to kick-in on the Boxter S? 7,500 R.P.M. ?? :drive:
  18. Thanks Loren , for the file. Tool Pants I might just try and source the movie. Who is starring ?
  19. I can't get the www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/obc/obc.stalk.pdf to open. I'm getting a message about non repairable error in the file as Acrobat Reader opens, and I can't find it on the site itself. Can you help mrmickeymouse? I want to change the stalk in my car for the 4 stalk.
  20. Hi Guys, :help: First off, should a car with a factory-fitted Aerokit 11 still have the retractable rear spoiler ? Should it not have the extended rear hood, and no spoiler mechanism? The rear spoiler indicator light had been coming at the set deployment speed, and staying on until the next switch-off, although the spoiler itself was not activating. I recently contacted Loren by PM and received some good info from him about getting rid of the indicator light for the rear spoiler when the Aero kit is fitted. It suggested two ways for earlier and later cars by a combination of removing and swapping pins and connectors in the harness under the spoiler. When I began to do the modification I reconnected the harness connectors under the spoiler, to give it a run ( as one does) by activating the switch in the footwell. The spoiler wouldn’t extend when I pressed the switch up, but when I pressed down it made a ratcheting sound, probably quite naturally since the spoiler had not extended. I then drove the car, no light came on at the usual deployment speed, but on slowing down to the speed at which it should retract, the ratcheting sound could be heard . I removed both brown relays from the nearby control board in the trunk, and I have no ratcheting sounds from the spoiler , and no light on the dash, so all appears well, but I can’t help wondering (a) why the spoiler didn’t extend, and (B) why I didn’t have to do the wire shifting in the harness connector to achieve ‘no light’? Donie
  21. I haven't actually done this, but I guess it's simply a matter of removing the right front wheel ( for ease of access) removing a number of self tapping screws holding the plastic wheel arch panel in place, then putting your hand up inside the fender (wing) to feel how it is mounted . I don't reckon it's a big job, and the locking mechansim is not expensive. Here in Europe it's only about €27 which is probably about $35. Donie
  22. Hi Guys, I posted this on the tech section, but now realise it should have been here. Anyone help? I have an 2002 Boxster S with PCM2, but it doesn't have the stalk/control for the OBC, Is it possible to display some of the information from the PCM2 such as average fuel consumption/distance travelled, and to next fuel-stop/temp/Gong Limit etc., in the tacho, like the OBC does? I'm assuming that the display capability is already there, although I'm a little confused by what Toolpants said earlier in the this thread, when he explained about dot matrix beign installed in some year models. Can this be done with some mods with PST2? Boxster S model 2002, PCM2 Donie, Spain

  24. Here in Europe they recommend Mobil 1 0-40 for my Boxster S and also for 2.7 , and the Porsche dealer will charge about $280 for the 9 liters, but you can source it for about $13 per l.
