  1. Thanks for the quick reply. So my only option is to get the amp too. I will give it a try.
  2. Will the Utopia Be 13WS speakers work with the existing Bose amplifier? The Focal website shows them as 4-ohms.
  3. Loren, are the Brake/Clutch Fluid Change and Bleeding Instructions for the 996 applicable to the 996 Turbo (with PSM) as well?

  4. Hi all, I’ve discovered I have a coolant leak on the left side of the engine. Can anyone help me identify which hose this is? Not sure at this point whether it’s the hose at fault or something else. If there is a procedure to replace this hose, that would be helpful too! Dave
  5. Hi all, I've got a slow coolant drip onto the top of the left side muffler tip and I'm having a hard time finding the source. Is there anything above there besides the expansion tank and hoses that I should be looking into?
  6. Bummer. I haven't tried them for this item, but I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the response!
  7. I'm wondering if anyone might know if part number 996 106 157 03 (or an alternative) might fit a '99 996 C2? They're less than half the price of 996 106 147 56. Thanks, Dave
  8. I'm running the Solisto adapter with my CDR-210 http://www.solisto.de and it works great! Simple plug-in installation and it charges the iPhone.
  9. I've got a '99 C2 and I'm running BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE960AS POLE POSITION all seasons on my car in Melbourne, FL. Admittedly, its a different situation than yours, since most of my turns are 90 degrees from a stop light, with a few enjoyable back roads mixed in. I do manage to find my share of off ramps; however, and I've not been disappointed with the decrease in handling. Its certainly noticeable, but outweighed by the more comfortable ride, lower cost, decrease in noise and increase in wet-weather performance, the latter of which is all-important during the rainy season down here. To answer what you didn't ask, I would definitely not recomend all-seasons for regular use in the snow. I grew up in Boston, and with such wide tires, I would not want to go out without anything but dedicated snows that are specifically designed to bite into the snow and ice.
  10. Not all dealers ask way too much. There's a dealer in Naples, FL that specializes in finding trade-ins before they actually get traded. He offers the seller more than they would otherwise get on their trade at a dealership and sells the cars at less than you would pay to a normal dealership or private seller. I bought my 996 from them and couldn't be happier. Try Naples Motorsports in Naples, FL. They have a great internet presence, and while most of their cars are Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Maseratis, they also sell Porsches. Since the Porsche volume is lower, you may have to be patient to find what you want. The patience pays off in the end with the lower price. Dave
  11. I have a 99 996 C2. 996 355 955 04 is actually what is stamped on the hydraulic portion of my control unit. Dave
  12. I'm looking for a replacement ABS control module for part number 996 355 955 04. I've found 996 355 755 04 at Oklahoma Foreign and I'm wondering if someone may be able to confirm whether this will be compatible with my car. Thanks, Dave
  13. Update: According to my mechanic, the speed sensor and wiring check out okay. He says the electronic portion of the ABS control module is the likely culprit. I've found some used modules at Oklahoma Foreign that might work, and I'd also like to find out if you may know of any places that rebuild 996 ABS modules?
  14. Ok; I've finally got the faults: DME - #169 IACV TIP - #55 Speed Signal (FR) ABS - #4200 Speed Sensor, Front Right It seems like the right front speed sensor needs to be replaced. Would you agree? If so, do we have a procedure for this I can search for on the site? Thanks, Dave
  15. I have a 99 996 C2. My car has been sitting for several weeks and when I took it out for a drive today the ABS light stayed on and the Tiptronic would not engage manual mode. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to go about troubleshooting this? I recently changed the ignition switch, but I imagine that that shouldn't have anything to do with it. Fuses look o'kay. I'm stumped! Dave
  16. I don't have any personal experiences to impart, but I've been asked this question by friends before and wouldn't recommend it to them unless they really knew what to look for, inside and out (specific to the model car under consideration), and they are readily able to assess the full cost of repairing any issues before committing to the purchase. You can get lucky, but ask your friend why these cars are at auction in the first place, versus some dealership lot. I think he'll tell you its because it would be harder for a particular dealer to sell than what they are comfortable with selling. In fact, they may not even know any more about the condition of the car than the potential buyer! I don't mean this as criticism (because its not), but it seems like the low price is what's really attracting you to car auctions. It also seems like you may not be an expert in Porsche repair, because I think if you were, you wouldn't be asking this question. By the way, I'm no expert either! But if buying a Porsche near wholesale price is too strong of an attraction to pass up, consider setting aside some of your potential cash savings to pay someone who is an expert to join you at the auction and provide you with expert advice. Then keep the rest for whatever maintenance you'll have to perform in the future. Hopefully you already know that even at an independent repair facility, maintenance on Porsche's is an order of magnitude higher in cost than say something like a a BMW or Audi.
  17. Maurice & Foster, Many thanks! I will certainly give this a try. Dave
  18. Lately I've been having some trouble removing my key from the ignition switch. This morning, when I tried to remove the key, I noticed that the only way I could do it was by turning the switch to the extreme left (to the stop). But once I removed the key, I was unable to lock the doors with the remote. When when I locked the door manually, I received a single beep from the horn and the lower portion of my gauge cluster (the digital section) remained illuminated. I'm guessing that I need to replace the ignition switch. Can someone confirm this for me and can you also offer some recommendations/instructions, both on the replacement and also on the parts I need to order to allow my existing key set to work? Otherwise, would it be better or cheaper for me to just order a new switch and key set? Thanks, Dave
  19. I noticed the same thing when I installed mine, and I have to believe that the track is manufactured to work on multiple Porsche models. Based on what I remember, if you compare the part that you removed to the one that you installed, you will see that the new part has a rubber and metal stop that is mounted to the track an inch or so from the bottom. I removed mine, and it operates fine now. Suggest you validate this recommendation with some of the more knowledgeable folks on this site to make sure I'm not steering you wrong.
  20. I had a similar situation in my 996. The road noise was so loud that I thought I had a bad bearing. But then I switched to a different set of tires and that made all the difference in the world!
  21. I sometimes get a rattle and have narrowed it down to the door panel. I keep CDs in there, and sometimes at idle I have enough just enough vibration coming from the aftermarket exhaust that they'll start to rattle.
