  1. No experience with the franchise you mentioned, but you can get a second opinion from the Wheel Collision Center in Bath, PA. They can also advise you on the potential safety issues, which of course depends upon the severity of the damage. These guys have been in business for a long time, and the members of the BMWCCA rave about their work. I've personally used them, and I was pleased with the results. http://www.wheelcollision.com/porsche.htm
  2. I've got something very similar on my '99 C2. It was done about 5 years ago here in the states. The only difference is the diameter and routing of the stainless steel tubing. I've been very pleased with it, although admittedly there is increased vibration at idle.
  3. Agreed...call Mike at M A Shaw (www.mashaw.com) great guy, great stuff, great prices! sb Thank you...Could you post some pics of the mashaw wing? Is it a good fit? I was able to find this http://www.vertexauto.com/index.php?pg=proddetail&sk=176074 on vertexauto.com for $999. I was told that it is ready for paint. I'll see what I can do when I get back from my business trip this week. BTW, I just got the latest version of the Performance Products catalog, and I noticed that they are carrying these too. I bought a Cargraphics front spoiler lip from them, and I'm happy with it as well. Dave
  4. $700 bucks seems pretty low. It might make sense for you to have your local bodyshop contact the California supplier to find out how "finished" their wing is. Is it raw fiberglas or will it be sent already primered and ready for paint? I went through this very same process, and with one California bodywork supplier I discovered that the additional finishing work required by my local bodyshop to make the wing presentable would have brought my cash outlay much higher than I wanted to pay for the total project. I have a recommendation for you if you are interested. Try MASHAW. I bought a replica GT3 wing for my narrow body 996 from him, and I am completely satisfied. He is the nicest guy you could ever imagine dealing with, and his prices are very reasonable. The wing was manufactured in eastern Europe and fits extremely well. I think he lists them for just under $1400. Dave
  5. I'm interested in doing the same thing for a '99 996 (without Bose). If the info is the same, can you copy me on the diagram? Thanx!
  6. Has anyone seen the body kits from Precision Porsche actually installed on a car? They have very competitive prices and I'm curious about fit and finish. Any comments would be appreciated!
  7. I'm getting 1123 and 1125. I was in the process of trying to locate the oil separator bellows hose to see if it has any leaks, when I discovered this problem. Would you happen to know where it is? I can't seem to find it.
  8. Hi everyone, I've been trying to track down a potential cause of these two error codes and I noticed that I've got a leak around the base of what looks to be my oil pressure sensor. It's located near the front of the right cylinder bank and it has two wires coming off the back. Could a leak around this sensor be a potential cause for these fault codes and since the sensor appears to be working, is there sime kind of replaceable gasket for it? Also, I think I've got a similar problem occurring at the base of my fuel pressure sensor. Could this also be a cause, and am I going to have to replace both sensors? Thanx in advance,
  9. Can anyone tell me where its at and how to access it? I'd like to check it for cracks or an open purge valve. Thanks!
  10. Thanks. I should have mentioned that I already cleaned the MAF and replaced the fuel filter. With 37K mi on the car, I'm wondering if I need O2 sensors at all.
  11. That's for 2. Their diagnosis was based on my OBDII computer registering 1123, 1125 and 1300 faults (taken with my own code reader). So it sounds like the O2 sensors should be fairly easy to access and replace, just as they are with just about any car?
  12. Can anyone offer recommendations on sources for O2 sensors for a 99 996, and also the procedure on how to replace them? My dealer is telling me it will cost $960 and about 4 hours of labor for this job, and that sounds completely outrageous to me. Are they easily accessible from below for a backyard hack mechanic? And do you recommend I buy the sensors from Porsche? Any recommendations, as well as a copy of the replacement procedure would be most helpful. Thanks!
  13. Hi Pete, I'm definitely interested in the part number! Thanx in advance, Dave
  14. I was wondering if electronics cleaner might solve the problem. I had this issue with my Boxter and they told me they had to replace the MAF. They gave me the old one back and I kept it just in case. Now I have a spare for my 911, just in case!
  15. I would try these guys Wheel Collision Ctr. in Bath, PA. If they can't do it, I bet no one else can. I've personally had great luck with them and the BMW Car Club raves about them. Good luck!
  16. I went ahead and took the plunge, purchasing the Fabspeed kit and the K&N air filter. Previous to this I had installed a modified exhaust, which by itself made a very noticeable difference in throttle response and a huge difference in character. This car NEEDS sound, and I found it kind of embarassing that the bone stock E46 M3 BMW has a better exhaust sound than my 911. I had to change that! Anyways, the Fabspeed kit further improved on my throttle response (it was definitely noticeable) and I can finally say that I am happy with the mod.
  17. Does anyone know if it's possible to fit a 996 Turbo airbox to a normally aspirated 996, and also if there's anything to be gained by such a mod?
  18. Wow, thanks Loren! By your description it looks like it's a piece of cake. Dave
  19. Would anyone happen to have the procedure to change out 996 mufflers with high-performance units? It looks like the rear bumper comes off to provide easy acees, but I wouldn't want to try it without some schematics. Any recommendations on where I could get them? Dave
  20. Hi everyone, I've got a somewhat perplexing sound coming that seems to emanate from somewhere deep in the dash upon start-up, and fades away within about 7-10 secs. It only happens occasionally, but when it does it can be quite loud. At first I thought it only did this when I started the car with the re-circ switch on, but I tried turning it off when the sound started and it didn't seem to clear it up. The sound eventually went away on its own. I'm assuming its from an electrical motor, of some sort. Since I live in Florida, the A/C is generally in the ON position when I start it up. I'm going to try and remember to leave it in the off position upon start-up to see if that helps localize it. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, I'd be interested in finding out how you fixed it! Dave
  21. Thanx guys. I had very good luck with a Euro airbox with a K&N filter in my '88 M3, but obviously that's a different animal altogether. And I hear you about the over oiling issue. That's is all too easy to do and unfortunately, I did just that with my Boxter. That MAF sure was expensive! On the other hand. I do wonder if the element inside the MAF could have been made serviceable by using some electronics contact cleaner. I guess I'm still in a quandary about whether to go with either of these mods. I'd be happy with more throttle response and sound. I just don't want to loose any checks on the computer. B)
  22. I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on whether 996 Airbox mods (particularly the Fabspeed mod) and BMC Air Filters are worth going for. I heard that Excellence magazine wrote something up on this topic a while back, but I can't seem to find out which issue.
