  1. I'm considering picking up a pair of aftermarket racing seats for my '00 C2 coupe. I know I'll need the appropriate sliders/mounts. My question is wrt electronics.

My current sport seats are fully manual other than the electronic recline. If I install aftermarket racing seats I know the recline function is a moot point. However I don't want to trigger an airbag light, so what do I need to do to connect the seatbelt receptacle's wire to the harness that sits on the floor under the car seat? Do I need to purchase another harness for the new seats so this connector can attach, or can the connector simply plug into the harness in the car? Of course I will assume/check the mounts have a 17mm threaded bung to attach the seatbelt receptavle to.

The only thread similar to this that I could find by searching is below: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3749&hl=

    Many thanks!!!

  2. 996 video w/cat bypass pipes

    Hi Guys-

Go to this url www.garagenut.com and just refresh the page to watch the video. I posted this for all those of you considering getting cat bypass pipes. The video is of my 99' 996 Tip/stock mufflers and headers with Fab Speed Cat Bypass Pipes. They added a bunch of torque and took quite a bit off my 0-60 time. Worth the money.

    Cheers,

    Ben

Are you getting a CEL with the cat bypass pipes? How hard is it to install/remove? Or if a shop did it, how much time do they quote and what was the charge?

    Thanks!

  3. What sort of front bumper is that in the second pic? It's a pre 02 bumper by the headlights, looks like a GT3 type but with GT2 upper vents. I like it. Any more info on this bumper?

I like it too and have been considering having those vents cut into my front bumper. Does the MkI GT3/aerokit include a panel to direct air from the center opening to these vents? Does anyone know of a template to properly size and position the vents?

Also, anyone know of the part number and/or where the lower lip can be obtained? It looks like 996 505 986 92

    Thanks!

  4. Hi All,

Does anyone know the exact difference between the Sport seats and the regular seats on a 2004 c2 996? Is there a difference in the back frame, seat track and adjustment, etc. Or is it just the bat wings.

      Thanks,

          Stan

I retrofitted a pair of sport seats in my '00 996. The standard seats are fine for most people. I found the standard seat back too constricting; my back was pushed away from the seatback, a quite uncomfortable experience.

I installed a pair of sport seats and they seem to fit me better. The upper bolsters are tight against my sides, and my back actually rests on the seatback. The "batwings" do push my shoulders forward a bit, bit since both hands are on the steering wheel 90% of the time it is perfectly comfortable.

They do provide more upper torso lateral restratint compared to the standard seats. I don't notice any differences between the lower seat cushions.

  5. I went to my local Sears (Monkey Mall) as I needed a battery quickly - daily driver. They refused to install an Optima as their system said they were too tall! I finally buckled and had one of the Die Hards, as above, installed. $99 plus installation. This weekend I noticed they didn't even install the vent hose, so I'll stop by on the way home this week to have them install it properly.

  6. I JUST received a photo radar shot of me on Macarthur! $50 to the city. Argh. Many thanks for the warning though!

Last night we got a babysitter and drove down Wisconsin to get dessert at Sequoia's. Wisconsin in Georgetown is simply the worst street I've ever driven on! My car constantly bottomed out even at low speeds. That reconstruction project must take a heavy toll on cars around there. :cursing:

  7. Chronos:

You are so right  :(   I live right in Georgetown, and to make the potholes worse, there is the whole Georgetown reconstuction project.  I guess getting rid of exploding manholes that fling manhole covers like frisbees is a good thing, but it is a major pain in the meantime.  If I didn't like my Targa so much, I would consider a Pepper.

    TD in DC

No kidding. The joke is that SUVs became so popular in the US due to the poor quality of our road surfaces. We should instead vote out of office the guys who are responsible for road maintenance.

I was in California a couple of years ago (NorCal) and was amazed at how badly the roads and the freeways had deteriorated! <_<

Due to traffic patterns there are times that I'm forced to cross through DC (NW) to get home. I'll be driving up Macarthur for the first time tomorrow since installing the 18"s and am not looking forward to it.

I understand that highway funds are an easy target (read:bank) when a state is facing financial crises.

  8. If MI roads are anywhere as bad as DC roads, I would check your tires at least once a week.  I think that the downside to low profile performance tires is that they take more of a beating on rough roads.  When I first started dating the woman who eventually became my wife, she was constantly bending rims and getting flats on her '97 328is.  It took me awhile to realize it, but the problem was really tire pressure.  Once I started checking her tire pressure religiously, she had no more problems.  I have never had problems on any of my cars in DC since I started checking very frequently.

DC road are so bad! I used to joke that I could tell whenever I crossed over the DC line from Maryland as the road conditions must rival Baghdad.

I'll also make sure to constantly check my air pressure!

  9. My '00 C2 coupe has the standard suspension. With the 17" wheels/tires the ride was almost plush. Small bumps were not noticeable and larger bumps were lightly felt through the steering wheel and the seats.

With the 18" the ride is far harsher. However, turn in and overall handling and balance are improved.

I may end up keeping the 17"s for winter use. If I lived in the midwest (where there are two seasons: winter and road repair) I'd probably keep a set of 17"s on it for most driving.
