Front lip for 02'+ standard front bumper?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I own a 03' 996 C2 and it came with the Carrera rear spoiler.

I had done some research here and found that the wing actually came in a kit as well:

kit : 000 044 802 04

wing : 996 512 903 00 G2X

lip : 996 505 986 02 G2X

First of all, are the part #s right? Even thru searching, it wasn't very clear as I also found another part number for what might be the same lip. (lip : 996 505 555 01)

My real question: is there a front lip for the standard bumper for an 02'+ 996 C2? If so, what is the part number and does anyone have pics of what it looks like (preferably on the car). I know there is a lip for the 02'+ GT3 front bumper but I don't think it will fit the standard bumper.

thanks in advance

The standard front bumper on a MY02-MY05 Carrera does not have a spoiler lip - only the GT3 bumpers do.

wing : 996 512 903 00 G2X -- is the rear "Carrera" wing you have

lip : 996 505 986 02 G2X -- is the spoiler lip for the GT3/Aerokit front bumper

Any idea what this part is then? 996 505 555 01
It just says spoiler on the parts list and there is no diagram. It is not shown or listed anywhere else - perhaps it will work on a stanard front bumper?

Also, why is Carrera wing "packaged" with the lip for the GT3 bumper?!
It isn't.

000 044 802 04 rear spoiler "CARRERA" comprising:

- 996 505 555 01 spoiler

- 996 512 903 00 rear spoiler G2X prime coated

- 996 512 907 00 flange 2

- 996 631 980 00 brake light 1

Thx again!

I guess the suspect part in all this is the (996 505 555 01 spoiler). I'll try the dealer tomorrow to see if they can provide any insight.

Loren. the Teq listing for the kit is listed as "rear carrera spoiler AND front lip spoiler from 8/01" listed as 000 044 802 04. If the only lip comes on the GT3 (Mk2) then what is the lip they are referring to? My guess is it is a misprint? GT3 lip compatible with the std bumper?

Check out this link:

http://porsche.parkplacestores.com/caresp.html

It is written the same way as the Teq catalog. Something isn't making sense here.

The listing I gave above is right out of the Porsche parts list.

996 505 555 01 comes in that kit not the GT3 front lip.

I do not know what the 996 505 555 01 spoiler looks like but it must fit a MY02 or newer car.

Loren,

I have been told that the 996 505 555 01 front lip spoiler only fits 8/01 and newer cars (after the front bumper update), and that it is a relatively short lip spoiler (approximately 2 to 2 1/2 feet long). I will post a picture as soon as I receive mine.

996 505 986 91 is the Cup Car front spoiler lip. LVDell put one on his car. As I recall he had to drill some new mounting holes. Have a look here.

My 02 Cab came from the factory with the Carrera aerokit. I read somewhere that there is a front "spoiler" (not a lip) that is under the fronnt bumper cover and is there to modify the airflow on cars that were ordered with the factory spoiler. Of course I had the front bumper cover changed to a TT shortly thereafter so I don't remember what that little hidden front spoiler looked like. You can't see it from the pics.

No front "lip" visible, however.

I was also curious about this Aerokit lip for the standard bumper, but nobody had a picture or so available.

I went to my dealer a few weeks ago, but he also has never seen it before. Since the price was reasonable (about 60$ here in Germany) I ordered it:

The lip itself is a 2 feet long piece of black plastic as TD in DC describes. It's about 1-1.5 inch deep.

You fix it at the standard >MY02 bumper about 4 inches behind the front 'edge' by clipping it into existing holes (better: slots). If you look under your car you'll easily see the mounting holes, so you can imagine of what I speak.

- It is definitly not the GT3 lip (neither the old one nor the new one)

- You hardly see it after it's installed because it's not sticking out from the bumper, but hidden under it.

- It's (to Porsche standards) cheap, but IMHO still not worth the investment.

So if somebody finds a nicer, better solution (TomSch, when do you finally install yours on your Targa? :D ) I am very interested in seeing some pix.

Wolfgang

PS: there is one sold at ebay (Germany) and the guy says it fits to 996/2. Anybody installed this? Is that a Porsche part?

When I took a quick look at a 04 GT3, it looked like the lip could be mounted to the standard C2 bumper by drilling some holes (probably would have to remove the bumper to do a nice job.

The GT3 lip is about $200 at a discount parts dealer.

I would like to see it mounted or get some measurements before I buy one.

I think adding the lip and also painting the bottom edges of the bumper (near the front of the wheel wells body color would balance the front end out with side skirts...

What sort of front bumper is that in the second pic? It's a pre 02 bumper by the headlights, looks like a GT3 type but with GT2 upper vents. I like it. Any more info on this bumper?

I like it too and have been considering having those vents cut into my front bumper. Does the MkI GT3/aerokit include a panel to direct air from the center opening to these vents? Does anyone know of a template to properly size and position the vents?

Also, anyone know of the part number and/or where the lower lip can be obtained? It looks like 996 505 986 92

Thanks!
