  1. Not "the" hestation but a stutter like 2 cylinders not firing at all for short periods. Now if you get both at the same time, thats interesting :( it happened to me once. :censored: They have to disassemble to see the cracks.
  2. OK all done here are the parts used 8 * 999-170-218-90 Spark Plugs 8 * 948-602-104-01 Pencil Coil PIWIS shows nothing visual inspection required 03350050 On Board Diagnostic 22 0.20
  3. Loren FYI if you are not already aware there are bad sets of coils out there on 04 S models. The resulting misfire does not show up in PIWIS error logs but does get recorded in the engine log as a misfire incident. Hairline cracks on the coil body and possible premature wear on the plugs are the cause. Mine are being flown in as we speak but based on my dealers comments, demand is outstripping supply. Symptoms are 1500-2000 rpms, 35-50mph under cruise condition, slight gas engine starts to misfire/stutter. keep applying gas and revs pick up and the problem goes away, sounds like fuel to start with but is electrical stress. Mike
  4. Hi Loren, I meant being able to go through the station presets by using the steering wheel controls. Thanks. Sorry to say that it only switches frequency not presets
  5. First, let me say that when I took the pads out the rotor looked fine and although I have slotted drilled rotors to put on I did not see the point in wasting them they will go on next time. Total elapsed time including jacking, wheel removal and the job itself was 90 minutes A single bolt hold the pad retaining pin in place, as usual with fluid locked bolts tighten a fraction to break the seal and then remove as normal. Leave the bolt in couple of turns and tap the end to start the pin on its way through. I used a broad flat screw driver as a drift to knock the pin through and a mole grip to pull it through. Its a pain to get through I warn you. Once the pin is out, break the sensor wires , its easier. Use a driver to lever the pads out. Removing the old sensor cable was hard so breaking the connector seemed easier. Route the new cable to the connector and behind the little loop on the brake nipple rubber cover. The sensors clip in with the thick part pad side. To get the new pads in you will find that depressing one of the pistons is easy, the second ok the third forces out the other 2. I found the easiest way was to depress the first 2 and then slip the pad in, with the pad bkocking the first 2 depress the third and push the pad into place. Its not hard just fiddly. You really need three hands to put the pin back through. The best way is to depress the pad retaining spring and tap the pin through, for the last part you will need to push the pin itself into line. Dont forget to get blue loctite for the pin bolt and brake grease for the back of the pad.
  6. Loren are you saying that the pre-wiring is in some cars, I aksed my dealer for this a while ago and they said they had to wire a new antenna through from the back and it was mucho $ to install. Compared to nothing when ordered from new.
  7. Loren Can you give mean the torque setting for the rotors please, getting ready to do this job. Final prep. Mike
  8. Ski nailed it. I bought my controller on line. I mounted it at the very left of the footwell so you can see the display, I know someone else who went to the right so the passenger can adjust in motion if needed. I tow a 14ft 4 wheel box with electric brakes, cant hardly feel it. I do get the ! in the display due to a system light mis match but all my lights work fine.
  9. Anyone replaced the rotors / pads yet ? If so can you post the procedure please. Loren I dont know if there is a section in the manual for this, some tips would be usefull.
  10. I use a Prodigy Brake Controller, not hard to install as the wiring is there under the dash waiting. So long as you have the Factory hitch all the electronics should be there ready to go. I am shocked that IRA,who sponsor my board, do not know how to install one. Ask to speak to the service manager it will take about an hour. Mike
  11. I have the Curt hitch on my S. It saves a small amount of money because you have to get the dealer to wire in the control module and set it up, fitting is not to hard.
  12. The 05 and 06 fobs are not interchangable. There are internal changes to handle the 2 button 06 fob. By the way, what do i need to do in order for the dealership to upgrade my key fob from 05 to 06? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  13. OK, as said earlier in this thread, it is one of the most discussed topics, and as Loren stated there is a wealth of fibre optics in the way which stops you connecting into the system. For 2 yes two years manufacturers (various) have promised solutions without any delivering anything which would enable line level audio connection to the system. You can feed video in, but even the high end custom shops use an FM Modulator to get the audio to work. Do not dismiss this as it gives "near cd" quality. Now we are not talking about any of the FM transmitters here (iTrip etc), they do not give any real quality sound but the things they used to use to add a CDC to a head unit in the old days. It inserts a powerfull FM signal into the antenna line which gets rid of any unwanted interference from weak off air trans, issions. I have 2 on my S with PCMII one for iPod and one for Sirius. I am very happy with both. There are photos on my Rennlist Gallery. iPod Install iPod Mount Mike (mikem@mss1.com)
  14. Thanks, that will do it, I will write a how-to with pix when done.
  15. Loren do you have a procedure for R/R front pads and sensors ?
  16. Yes you cannot sit in the driveway and annoy the neighbours, it always limits at 4k when not moving for lots of reason.
  17. Thanks PTEC and Loren. Its an Aluminum self seating mount over a spline. I just used my fingers and rocked it until it released, cleaned the spline of debris and remounted.
  18. Does anyone know how to remove the rear wiper arm ? With the cover off a nut is removed, but the arm is not coming off. Do I need to remove the actuator under the glass also ? Thanks
  19. If you get the 06 that plays MP3 CD's I would only get the changer if the capacity of 1 CD of say 300 songs is not enough. I would fisrt make sure that the changer can also read MP3 CD's. I got the changer and never use it, iPod and Sirius provide me with a much better experience.
  20. Hey you asked, just because you don't like the answer does not make it incorrect. MB and most other ac cars have this problem, actually Boeing 707s also had it. If you set the temp too low the laws of physics take over. Its not magic.
  21. Its purely a function of the temp setting, none issue. set it to 73 on a hot day and it does not happen.
  22. Your biggest headacre there is the hvac control unit and its cabling. its very tight back there and not very deep, not enough for a din headunit imho.. I like the idea of under the passenger seat, but not idea of cabling everything to get to the speakers. good luck
  23. I agree with GM Austin, its all a trade off. When you buy a Cayenne you are buying an "SUV", but its mainly a Porsche so performance is the key parameter iwhen designing the tires not longevity. No way you can compare a Saab with something that weighs as much as the Cayenne, thats too funny. Even on my old Mercedes ML the best I got was 21k, so 15 on my S is ok when you compare the performance differences. Yes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The "N" spec, Porsche approved tires have special rubber compound developed just for Porsche. Loren is saying that these special, soft rubber compound tires may ride better and have better grip than other tires but they also have a shorter life. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
