  1. I have the same problem which is caused by the platinum pellets coming loose inside the CATs. Fabspeed headers would be cheaper than stock replacements and have a lifetime warranty. Removing the heat shields helped a bit too. Chris Hewett 00 Boxster
  2. Just want to give you guys kudos again!!! Anyway, over the last month I have experienced an intermittent miss in the engine (sometimes driving/idling) but usually the car runs fine, no CEL. Today started the car in the garage and ran very rough like it was not firing on all cyl's. After 10-15 seconds I got a flashing CEL (P0306) misfire cyl # 6. Sounds like ignition coil to me, what do you think? :renntech: Thanks again! Chris Hewett 00 Boxster 2.7 60K
  3. Thanks for the great info, Loren! I will start troubleshooting tomorrow. Just for a sanity check, I am looking for the Cam Position Sensor 1(P0343, meaning bank 1-3) on passenger side rear...right? Am I correct that it is the sensor in the valve cover(next to vario cam script) in plain view with RR tire removed, and the other(bank 4-6) on the opposite front LH side? 2 -10mm bolts should do the job... Thanks again! :renntech:
  4. Thanks for the quick reply! One more question, where can I get the special tool 9637, and can this test be accomplished without it? also, I chrcked Pelican Parts for the sensors and did not see available. Can they be purchased online or is it a dealer item? Thanks again :) Chris
  5. Hi all, I just got a P0343 Code (Canshaft position sensor 1) on my 2000 Boxster 2.7. Any ideas? Car seems to run fine. 155K, but had new engine at 95K. Thanks in advance! Chris
  6. Thanks Loren for the clarification. This site is a life saver! Chris
  7. UPDATE!!! Drove the car a few hours and cleaned the TB, now the car idles perfectly at 650rpm. Is the reprogram still needed to be on the safe side? Thanks again, Chris. :renntech:
  8. Thanks, I'll clean it tonight. :D Thanks for your help Loren; I removed the large air duct that runs from the air cleaner box to the throttle body. I couldn't get to the bolts on the bottom to completely remove the body but was able to clean by spaying carb cleaner into it while the body was still on the engine. It cleared the problem and now she idles at a nice 650 rpms! By the way is there a trick to getting the airline back on the throttle body? I finally got it back on but it was really tough. I greased the lip of the throttle body and then had to heat the duct with a heat gun, keeping it well away from the engine due to gas vapors and it finally set in. There has to be a better way. Hi TomC. After reading your post I decided to clean my TB too. I also had problems trying to get the intake tube offf of the TB so I also removed the tube from the air box and removal/installation was a snap! I think the pipe is so rigid it is best to remove both ends....Mine was DIRTY!!! Chris
  9. UPDATE!!! Drove the car a hours and cleaned the TB, now the car idles perfectly at 650rpm. Is the reprogram still needed to be on the safe side? Thanks again, Chris.
  10. 2000 Boxster, 2.7 e-gas. 149K (50K on new engine) Original MAF was the 400, Autohaus sent the 501. Just replaced my MAF with the following: 0280218055 Bosch Air Mass Sensor For models with M620 e-accelerator, for original 99660612400 or updated 98660612501 Porsche units. Please verify part number on existing unit prior to ordering. 1 per car. Car now runs like a dream but the idle lopes from 600-700 rpm. Did a hard reset and continues, if I read the posts right I will ned to reprogram the computer...correct? Thanks, Chris :renntech:
  11. I have researched the site with no close answers. I have a thunking rattle that sounds like a deep wall socket in my rocker panel (like if you dropped it from a 1/2 inch high inside rocker) , low in the car behind the seats, most prominent on drivers side. only happens over certian road imperfections like small potholes, expansion joints, train tracks, etc. Happens with top up or down, but worse with top up. Could it be the conv. top cover between the window and deck lid? Any ideas? thanks, Chris
  12. The vibration that occurred during acceleration went away when the DMF was replaced. (The dealer told me mine had a crack in it (?).) The vibration that occurred when the engine revved at about 3000 rpm was repaired by the additional muffler support. OK, explain this one. 00 Boxster, bought at 25 K with extreme 3000K vibration, replaced DMF...no change. Engine died at 95K, thats bad but at least I get rid of the vibration...yes and no. New engine(same DMF) was smooth as silk for the 1st 5K on the new engine then it cam e back but not quite as bad. So that rules out the exhaust bracket and all other drivetrain with wear. All Boxsters I have tried since have one form or another of a vibration except fot the S. I think the the engines have balance issues. I am driving mine until the wheels fall off...currently 149K.
  13. I am having the same problem on my 00 Boxster (149K) and the dealer told me the cat on the right header was coming apart on the inside. Mine sounds like loose valetrain below the side air intake. SO now the question is buy 1 factory header at $1200 (2 yr warr.) or fabspeed set $2400 (lifetime warr.) cheers, Chris
  14. My check engine light came on and produced P1128 code about a week after the dealer had the engine out for RMS and clutch. I researched a bit on this site and checked the oil fill cap (a bit loose) so I flipped the o-ring and it fit snug and tight again. I cleared the code to see if it would repeat and it occured again about 500 miles later producing P1128 and P1130 this time. I am running a K&N with about 60K miles on it and just cleaned and re-oiled (carefully) ....which I have read can kill a MAF, I have a std filter on the way. Before I take it in to the shop do you recommend cleaning the MAF (148K) off the vehicle with the CRC brand(or comparable) MAF cleaner? I heard a few bad stories about trying to clean. The car runs great with no power or gas mileage loss. 3 of the 4 Oxy Sensors have 148K on them. 2000 Boxster Speed Yellow 148,000 miles 2.7 (new at 95K) Thanks! Chris
