  1. I have a '99 C2. Avg: 22.6 Best: 28.3 Worst: 17.91
  2. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3404 However, getting it up 2 feet sounds like a stretch with this method.
  3. I have a '99 C2 and I had a coolant leak crop up this past week. Dealer saw it today and said its a cracked expansion tank. From what I've heard, this is common, and the leak won't manifest itself until the coolant system is pressurized and warm. Like you, I also haven't had any overheating, but until I can get an expansion tank replacement, I drive with a gallon jug of distilled water, just in case. Good luck with yours... brian
  4. I had a fault for a "bad ignitor" on the left side impact airbag (didn't catch the exact fault # when I spoke to the service manager). Had this replaced at a dealer and everything was fine for about 5 days, then the same fault returned. They think maybe the the airbag control unit needs replaced, but said that would be odd for a car that has never had its airbags deploy. I found many topics on airbag faults and how to clear them but no topics on reoccurring failures. Ideas anyone? Also, I'm scheduled to autocross it next weekend; Does anyone know if an airbag fault would pass tech inspection at the track? Brian - '99 996 C2 Coupe
  5. No I haven't tracked the car YET, but I've always wanted to try my hand at a circuit. It looks like great fun. Are you active in the local PCA? I recently joined but haven't made it to any club functions or met anyone so far. I am hoping to make it to BeaveRun or Mid-Ohio one of these days. I checked out the in-car video and the dyno test, is your C2 purely a track car? It sounds great!
  6. I'm hearing a slight knocking sound from my front suspension. I was told during a 4-wheel alignment that I had a cracked left-front sway bar end link, but that it wasn't anything major. That was confirmed by a Porsche dealer last fall, but they didn't have the part at the time. I brought the car to another dealer in the spring, and they told me there was nothing wrong with my end links. I wasn't hearing a noise back then, but the past week it's been noticeable. Sound familiar to anyone? For all I know, it has nothing to do with the end link... but, to spot the condition of the end links myself, is it possible without putting the car up? 1999 C2 stock without M030. :renntech: -Brian
  7. I'd like to replace mine, but I'm having trouble with the part number. So far I have found 993.559.211.00 and 996.559.211.00, can anyone confirm the '99 C2 has a 993 crest? I've seen some online parts catalogs claim 996.559.211.01 for '95+ cars. Just a general curiosity: does anyone know the meaning of the last two digits in a Porsche part number? So far as I can tell, .00 and .01 parts are usually the same thing.
  8. Its been a month and the problem has not returned, even in stop & go traffic where it used to almost always pop up. Thanks to all who responded!
  9. Confirmed! Porsche released info on the updated C4 and C4S this morning. Its all over their main site but here's the press release if anyone wants that kind of detail: http://www.porsche.com/usa/aboutporsche/pr...p;id=2008-06-25 Your friend has a good eye, deschodt.
  10. Good point, mother. Yes, this is the 2nd dealer. The fault code first registered last fall, so I brought that up with the first dealer when it went in for an oil change before storing it for the winter. They were the ones to first bring up the DME issue. I gave a heads up to the dealer I'm currently working with, and they confirmed it. The first dealer also used the tester on another 996 that day just to confirm the problem wasn't the tool. But, regarding the lean-threshold p-codes, I had the car out briefly and feels a bit smoother with the new MAF sensor.
  11. Heard back from the dealer, they confirmed the MAF being the most logical place to start, so I gave them the goahead to slap a new one in. He mentioned they aren't going to clear the codes to see if they go away within a drive-cycle. So, exactly what is a drive-cycle in late model Porsche? There must be some criteria the engine management system uses to determine when a drive-cycle has been completed. Oh, and the DME is helpless... new one installed is $2200 :(
  12. Hi everyone! Long time reader - First time poster. I have a '99 911 C2 with CEL on. Its reporting codes P1123 and P1125. Don't worry, Loren, I used the search feature and found a number of topics on possible issues that cause these codes. However, I have a unique issue with my DME. I bought the car a year ago, and the dealer assured me the car was completely stock. BUT, no one can get the Porsche diagnostics computer to run tests through the DME. My car is being checked out at a Porsche-authorized dealer now, and they digress from giving me solutions to the CEL because of the DME issue (and inability to run diagnostics). They also said they tried to reprogram it back to its default with no success. They informed Porsche of the issue, hopefully they will hear back tomorrow. Is it possible the previous owner unintentionally wiped the area of memory containing diagnostic functions by flashing the DME to change the engine mapping? Could the DME be the root issue? Or am I definitely in for a MAF and/or O2 sensor(s) either way? Mostly just wondering if anyone has seen this type of issue before... Thanks! Brian
