    When filling up the gas tank full on my 98 boxster, the needle on the gas gauge is only pointing to about 95% of the full hash mark. I'm not sure if this was the case before replacing my coolant tank. Is this normal?

    When I start up my 98 Boxster, I get a white smoke coming from my exhaust. The smoke goes away after I drive it but it's every time I start the car in the morning regardless of weather condition. Is this is a serious problem? My boxster is a manual and has 63K miles. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Tom

    I have a similar problem with my 98 boxster. However, my spoiler does not go up even if I reach 75mph. I cecked my fuses and they look like they're all working. Loren, I'm also located in the Sacramento area. Is it possible if I could test the control unit using your PIWIS tester? Thanks, Tom

    Hi Respirologyrc, I just replaced my coolant tank but I don't see how you could have done it without lifting up the car because one of the connector on the tank is clamped from underneath the car. I don't see how you could have removed this clamp from inside the trunk. I'm just curious, but can you please explain how you were able to do this. Thanks.

    I agree, thanks for all the great pictures. I had the bearings replaced on my 98 Boxster about a year ago for ~$480 (parts and labor). Next time, I might try to do it myself thanks to your great step by step instruction.

    Thanks everyone for all your feedback. Taking everyone's advice, I went checked all the spark plugs again nd did find one that was not connected all the way. I've also replaced the socket connector that was slightly torn. Lastly, I disconnected the negative cable to the battery as Maurice suggested and the engine warning light went away. Thanks again everyong for you help!

    I was wondering if someone out there might have experienced the same problem. Yesterday, I replaced coolant tank, spark plugs, and also changed the oil on my 98 Boxster (manual). However, when I started the car up, it started shaking a little. I then drove it around the block and the check engine light came on. The car started shaking and then shut down. The car does start up but I'm afraid to drive it to an auto store to get a diagnostic. Also, inside the car, when I get ready to start the engine, it makes a low spinning noise (like a dvd changer looking for a disk). I think it has something to do with the factory NGK spark plugs I installed. I can't imagine it has to do with the oil change or the coolant tank. I did notice one of the Spark Plug Socket Connectors was slightly torn. Could this be the problem? If so, should I change out all 6? If this does fix the problem, will the check engine light automatically turn off? Appreciate the help. Thanks.

    The shop I took it too was able to diagnosis the problem. It was a bad rely and fuel pump. They replaced both plus the fuel filter for $870. Ouch! Thanks everyone for your help!

    Hi Loren, I have approx. 57K miles on the car. I bought the car used at 52k miles a couple of years ago. I'm not exactly sure when the fuel filter was replaced. I'll have to go through the paperwork. Is it easy to replace the filter? That's correct, no misfire fault codes. I live in Sacramento, CA. About 5 minutes from downtown. From your description, Roseville, CA is only about 20 minutes from where I live.

    Hi, I took my 98 boxster to a shop by my place because my engine died on the freeway. After 5 minutes, it would start and then go dead again after 5 minutes of driving. This happened 3 times before I got back home. The guy at the shop ran it through the diagnostic machine but it could not find a problem. He suspects it's the fuel pump but wasn't exactly sure. He suggested I drive it for a little while and see if the problem persist. Does this sound like a fuel pump problem? He said it would cost about $700 to replace the pump and filter. Appreciate any help. Thanks.
