  1. Update 1: It turns out the cruise is separate from the radio issue, as yesterday the cruise was working fine all day, but the radio would not power up. Strangely, it seems the past two days whenever I start the car after 7pm, the sirius lights up, but in the morning it does not. Probably just a strange coincidence, but very odd that it only likes the evening ;) I will rewire and heatshrink wrap the splices to seal up any weirdness I may have caused. The reason I need a 5V source instead of 12V though is because the output on the original sirius adapter is 5VDC, if I run a 12V source to something looking for a 5V, it will most certainly fry either in short order or in the medium to long term. Does anyone know of a safe "empty" 5V source in the fuse box that I could draw from?

So I have a little satellite radio from sirius custom mounted in my dash, and instead of powering it off the lighter (which both looked ridiculous, and doesn't power off when you turn off the car), I wired it into a 5VDC line that is some sort of accessory wire since it turns on and off with the car. This worked fine for a long time, but now my satellite radio stopped powering up, sort of…it’s intermittent and I’m not entirely sure why. 1) Driving to work Friday, no radio 2) Driving home Friday, no radio 3) Stopped at rexall, started again for the 30 second drive home, radio works 4) Saturday morning no radio 5) Sunday morning, radio starts fine 6) Today, no radio until 10 minutes into my drive, then just lights up The connection and splice are definitely not loose, it looks like the 5VDC is disappearing from some other car issue. Strangely (and this has been an issue for a long while), my cruise control active (ready but not engaged) button has always been an issue, sometimes you start the car and the green indicator on the dash won’t appear. Pull the key and start again and its fine. I’ve noticed whenever the radio isn’t working neither is that button, but I can’t yet tie them together conclusively… Car is an 02 996 C2, any thoughts on what to check? I've seen past topics where the rear brake light affected the cruise, but mine seems fine.
  3. No, there's no reason why ethanol would be bad for your engine. The 94 Octane stations in Canada typically use about 10% ethanol in the blend, and from previous race experience on a highly boosted car, I could notice the difference from the 92 octane fuel (Esso) up to the 94 octane (Sunoco), where I would have almost 0 knock on the 94, but would see 8-10 "knock units" on 92 or 91 on my logs. This was running 24psi on the car though (non Porsche car), so fuel impurities were evident quite quickly under the boost.

  6. So the last time I had the car at the shop, my mechanic scratched the rear bumper while it was off, and I had to drop it off to repaint it. While there I asked him to check out a noise when I turn on the AC. Weird grinding rubbing noise, and sure enough he called today and said its the AC compressor clutch. I couldn't find anything in the search about how to replace this, but wondering if its a DIY? He wants 2 hours labour (so $230 CDN or so...that's like 234 USD since the dollar change ;) - Canadians have had a crappy dollar for years, so just let me have this one) plus the cost of the part, which he hasn't named yet. Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on this, I don't even know where this part is or what it looks like, as I don't have the car back yet. Also, I couldn't find this part on pelicanparts site, it this a dealer part I would have to grab from suncoast or something? Thanks in advance.
  7. Okay, so I'm trying to figure out if I've gone crazy or not. I do alot of the work on this car myself: 02' 996 C2, but recently developed an oil leak out of one of the spark plug tubes. Ended up needing the valve cover replaced on one side, no big deal though, extended warranty paid for 80% of it. My question is this, I get the car back, and wash it right away, so I can put it back in storage (I'm in Canada, and luckily we got one day above freezing), and when I'm washing it I notice that when washing the back wheels, and under the car, that there's no splash guard behind the wheels, between the wheels and the exhaust/engine. The front has the plastic splash guards all around, and on the rear, it has a splash guard in front of the rear wheels, but nothing behind them. Did the mechanic forget to put them back on, or does the car not have any? I can't remember, but I swear I had them before. Thanks.

  9. Okay, sounds good, I'll get under there Saturday morning. Stupid question...but, what's the order of the cylinders? It's saying 1 through 3, are those the drivers side? Thanks.
  10. The CEL does not flash at all. Basically if I start my car in the morning when it's cold/dewey out, pretty much anytime before 9am, then the CEL will come on, and stay on solid...car sounds a little rough for about 30 seconds (if that even) then runs fine. Without clearing the CEL manually, it will shut off after about the 7th start of the car (when no longer cold) If I wait to start the car until the afternoon and take something else to work, there's never any issue, and the CEL won't come on. Is there a procedure on here for coil pack replacement? I'm getting alot of search results when I try "coil"
  11. Forgot to mention extra details if needed. 2002 996 C2, 54,000 miles on it...with the CEL on or off, the car runs very strong.

I finally was able to get the error codes scanned, and it looks like: P0300, misfire, damaging to catalytic converter P0301, misfire cylinder 1, damaging to catalytic converter P0302, misfire cylinder 2, damaging to catalytic converter P0303, misfire cylinder 3, damaging to catalytic converter Interestingly enough, I usually get this CEL about once every week on the sunday or monday, and only when I first start the car while parked outside in the morning when it's very moist/dewy out. Any thoughts on what I should replace/fix? I'm thinking either spark plugs, or spark plug wires...is there anything interesting to the fact that it's cylinder 1 through 3 only? Some specific part that covers only those cylinders? I'm very experienced on other turbo cars, ie. eclipses/subarus/etc., but have done nothing but change the oil, and the air filter on this thing so far. Thanks all.
  13. Mine isn't reset yet, although being disconnected on friday this week to complete an install. Becker-220 Serial #15001542 Type 4362 24/99 (what does this mean) Gal 00 (whatever that means also??) Any help would be appreciated. After installing my new aux cable, I would rather not have the deck not work at all :)
  14. Thanks for the advice LFE, I went to bestbuy today and bought the stiletto sirius unit and car kit...the thing is freaking awesome. The thing even has WIFI, I had no idea. Now I can use it even in my garage with no skyview, as I still get wireless access there. Amazing.
