  1. Well what am I gonna do? They have the car there with the transmission removed. I'm sure the price is 100% full retail for the clutch parts. At least there won't be any labor. They said my flywheel is fine. Dust, $500 labor is low.
  2. What's the retail price of the clutch? I'm seeing in this thread people throwingout $5-600. I'm having the RMS replaced now and the dealer said I'm down to 3mm on the plate. They're quoting me $785 for the parts.
  3. I just finished ordering a switch, when I got a text message from the dealer saying Porsche would cover the cost. Anyone want a switch for free?
  4. I just read the DIY article. Screw the dealer, I can do this. It still pisses me off this isn't covered under CPO warranty. One more day of unplanned tinkering.
  5. So with the entire lock assembly DIY I would not have to get it keyed (or whatever the proper term is)?
  6. My car is at the dealer now (see other post on ignition switch). I've had something like this happen numerous times in the 1.5 years I've owned it. I'll be driving along and suddenly oil pressure needle drops to 0 and a warning indicator "oil failure" appears. It lasts for 5 to 15 seconds and then all is back to normal. I had the dealer check it over the summer and they couldn't find anything wrong. I guess it didn't leave a code behind. I just asked them to check it again but the service rep doubted they would find anything. I even suggested it was the sending unit. WTF? The car tells me it's being starved for oil and they shrug their shoulders? The car comes off of CPO coverage the 26th.
  7. My car is at the dealer right now. I have maybe the rest of today to make a decision on this. First symptom was with the engine running the headlights wouldn't turn on, nor the heater fan. I found if I turned the key to the left maybe 1/4" I heard a click and all was well electrically. Then when I turned the key to the left to turn off the car, I could continue to turn it another 1/2" but with some effort and when I let go it would return to the resting off position. The key would come out OK, but was now hard to re-insert. I had to lock the car or else I would get the key still in ignition warning. I think they said I need a new ignition lock assembly. Parts and labor is over $800 and not covered by CPO. Is this a possible DIY?
  8. Loren, if one has an intact stock harness, I heard somewhere there is a way to modify it to work with a fixed wing. Is this true? If there's a way, I'd rather do that than spend $150+. Thanks.
  9. If you want a 997 look you should buy a 997. IMHO the exterior of the car is an improvement only in the eyes of the beholder. I love the 996 styling personally. The interior is where the big improvements exist.
  10. I did this mod about three months ago. I have the vinyl interior and have since acquired a bunch of leather pieces including the dash so I get to do much of this all over again! It was so much fun the first time too. At least I have experience taking some of the dash apart. Transferring the silver trim pieces will be a hell of a lot easier though with the dash out of the car!
  11. You should shop for better rates and then make your decision.
  12. "How hard a car is driven does not, by itself, translate into additional wear of the engine. That is, unless you are using Mobil 0W40." What kind of oil do you recommend?
  13. Now that is interesting. I've been investigating front bumpers for going on a year now and that is the very first time I've heard that about aftermarket urethane. Mike Shaw is a person I've never spoken to before but he would know this much better than me. I need to look into that further.
  14. I just noticed you're in the Rockville area. So am I. Well I'm in the nether region between Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Potomac. If you see me around flash your lights. I'm in a 03 seal gray coupe with MD bay plates
  15. Is the front bumper you plan to add made of FG? If so I would think carefully about that if I were you. FG can easily crack if you scrape the bumper, which does happen with our cars. A urethane bumper will just get a little chewed up on the bottom.
  16. Porsche says if adding fixed spoiler to the rear you must add the appropriate front bumper to counter balance the new down force on the rear of the car. They say it's OK to add a bumper that introduces more down force to the front of the car without adding a fixed spoiler to the rear. So I think you're OK with what you want to do. Where'd you get the new bumper?
  17. $5,500 to $11,000 for a transmission??? That's nuts.
  18. Why don't you want the sideskirts? I don't think it would look bad without, but they are the cheapest and easiest install of the aero parts.
  19. The pictures aren't that great, but it's not white, it's yelllow gunk.
  20. Is this what I think it is? I started the car this morning an a noticable puff of white smoke cam out of the exaust for about 5 seconds. I opened the oil filler and this is what I found. 03 C2 37K CPO until 12/08
  21. Thanks Loren, will replace the socket and see if that fixes it.
  22. I have a 03 996 whose front left turn signal sometimes doesn't operate. When I first got the car this summer the bulb was relpaced to pass inspection. It's weird that most of the time it will work but sometimes it doesn't. Any ideas as to the cause?
  23. Well mine needs adjustment becuase I have to pull it all the way to get any real braking effect.
