I am about to install a Sirrius Radio in my '02 996. Where did you mount the Stiletto? I have the Bose cr220 radio, which apparently doen't have an auxilary input. I don't want to use the Fm modulation, because the sound usually is bad. Did you find a better way to hook it up? at my shop we have found several ways to install XM or sirius into the car. you can email me for some pictures. but we use either your empty pocket below the stereo, or remove your CD tray and FLUSH in the control unit for XM or sirius. yes, it is FM modulated, but we do a WIRED FM modulation so that sound quality lost is so minimal, you would not know there was a loss. at my shop, BIG, ugly pieces hanging off the side of the console are not cool with 90% of my customers, and since we have been in business for over 20 years, my customers expect only the best. email me at Jaudio@pacbell.net for some pics and we can talk about what you would like or, just for you to get an idea of what a knowledgable installer can do.

if your car was not rewired, it was not a MOST system... i have been working on these cars for 26 years, and i can show you pictures of over 100 996/86 and newer body styles that my shop has install these pioneer and alpine systems in. i can tll you this... if your car has a glove box, it is most, therefore will require rewire. there is an exception to the rule, howver by looking at the cars you all have, it would not apply to any of you.

You'll have to change out the factory amplifier too if you have the bose system. if you dont, you're good. as for the new deck, you have more thane nough room for a double din Nav unit. ive done probably 15 or more since the beggining of 2007... email me for some picutres. though this is true when using lower quality speakers (like X-treme), when you put a quality speaker in there, without changing the amplifier you are creating a weak link that keeps you below the factory system. Also, YES, the impedence makes a big difference. Bose speakers are usually around 2-3 ohms, after markets can get anywhere from 4-8 Ohms. what this means to those of you that change out the speakers and keep the factory amp, Volume will be reduced significantly. changing out the speakers and not the amp is like this: think about having a honda civic with the bone stock 1.6L motor, now, put that motor into your nice 996 body... yes, the car is more aero dynamic, and better drive train, but what does it mater if you still only have 135HP?

well, just like said previously in earlier posts, the Bose system SUCKS in Porsches. and to be honest, the new 997 and 987c that have the bose system still sucks if you like to crank your music, or you if you like a very clear sound. i work in a shop in San Diego California that deals mostly with these kind of cars and find that not really anyone is ever happy with the Bose system in these situations. What i would recommend is to replace not just the speakers but the amplifier as well. What happens in a bose system is this. Factory speakers are usually paper cone. Meaning they are extremely light weight and very efficient with little power (Usually around 20W/speaker). after market speakers can be made of one of many different polymers, plastics, kevlars, polyglass... and other materials. what this means is, they are not light weight, and require a substantial amount of more power (usually around 75W+/speaker). try imagining the difference between accelerating and stopping a sports car, and accelerating and stopping a fully loaded Semi-truck. also, they usually have a midbass driver (6") that is not truely designed to give off low frequencies, but yet again, are extremely lightweight and efficient. So, with all the said, replacing JUST your speakers will actually REDUCE sound quality. if you want better sound replace minimally the amp and speakers. or, if you are one of the many that want just better quality without going into that detail, just add a subwoofer in the cab. We specialize in the Porsches being that we work directly with all the porsche dealers around here. in a 996 you can tell if you have a Most system if you have a Glove box, unles you have a targa, that doesnt apply. Let me get this right out inthe open: THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS AFTERMARKET RADIOS THAT CAN PLUG INTO A MOST OR D2B SYSTEM. the only real, quality aftermarkt fiberoptic touchscreen system is the Alpine System. but they use a completely different FO system. there are certain things that can be done to make it look like the factory system, i.e. where and how you hide the Amp. we do Pioneer and Alpine Navigation systems all the time, between the 986 996, 987, 987c, and 997, we do at least 1 navigation system a week, usually 2. we have a specific amplifier we use to tie into the system, but it still has to be replaced. if you ever want to know how it works, or what parts we use, or want pictures, plesae call us, or email me. i can email you some pictures.
