  1. I know when I need technical information, I come to this board. So for all those who search the board for 997 air filter housing removal, hopefully they will find this thread...
  2. I couldn't find any on a 987, ended up bringing one from the fuse box through to the front. if you have a 997, you can use the CD player wiring harness located on the passenger side, under the carpet (where the CD player would go or is mounted) Most all of the Dennison Ipod users have tapped into the switched power wire and ground. 12V switched = red/green. See pic
  3. 19.7 mpg US. It doesn't budge. I think it's a number the factory etched in the indicator screen to make you think it changes... :jump:
  4. Here is the over-priced but seemingly effective cold air kit. my butt-o-meter tells me there is at least another 25-50hp now (tongue-in-cheek wink). no affiliation, yada, yada and the infamous flapper valve which opens/closes to mitigate loud intake sound (now present with the kit) plug and cover
  5. yep, i'll post a pic tonight. after i was done it dawned on me that i should have taken a couple of pics while removing the housing.
  6. yep, that does help. much appreciated I just removed the air cleaner assembly and it is as all of you have described. It's pretty much just sitting in there. This is definitely different than my 996. Unplug the 2 sensor connectors as described above, and unplug a u-shaped vacuum line from one of those sensors. What wasn't mentioned is that there 2 cable clamps, one the right side and one attached to the back of the snorkle-like air intake that gets the air from the spolier grill. A simple twist does it on both. Move the oil filler tube out of the way and you're ready to lift out Lift straight up; there's a gromment in the front that sits on a post as a friction-type fit. Pull up. Thanks guys! The purpose was to fit a BMC filter and cold air kit. :)
  7. yep, i printed that out. but it seems that the housing cover is just sitting there, not bolted in (like the 996). the bolts are on the underside when you lift the cover off. I guess once i start disconnecting things, i'll see how it fits together thanks loren
  8. I'm planning to replace the air filter and have reviewed earlier posts with pics on the procedure. From what I can tell, I will disconnect several sensor wires and move the oil filler pipe, but i'm still confused on how the housing with the 3.8 logo is attached / lifts out. The bolts on my 996 aire filter housing were more straight forward Any hints/clarification? thanks! bob
  9. Great idea! save a tire and maybe I'll pick up a cheap rim on e-bay
  10. Ha! I saw that post and was going to buy that 996 spare too :D You beat me to it. Final cost for 1 tire/mounting/labor = $590
  11. Loren, et al, I wouldn't mind picking up a spare but my 997 is an S with 19" wheels. So can I use the 996 spare wheel for a short emergency trip to get it to the dealer. Or is that a bad idea. is the spare 17", 18" doesn't matter? I never really thought about the size of the spare figuring it was put in my previous 996 to match the 18" wheels. One size fits all in this case?
  12. well... having just ruined a tire this weekend, i can tell you it wasn't a good feeling not having a spare and not wanting to use the goo. Add to that the fact that I will now have to shell out $430 + labor for a new one. I should have got the insurance.
  13. This weekend I will be removing the wheels, one side at a time. Where do I place the jack stands for safety and to prevent damage? thanks! bob
  14. Is it necessary to remove the rear bumper cover to install a new set of mufflers on my 03 C2 coupe? Or can the old ones be removed, new ones installed without removing the cover. About how long should it take, if anyone knows thanks! bob
  15. How do you access the air filter? I see the six or so phillips head screws and see that the oil filler tube moves out of the way. But how do you disconnect the big fat tube. Anything else? thanks! bob
  16. go to carcareonline.com. the Wurth silver wheel paint is as close as it gets. I use it and it's a match
  17. jules, the 'cover-up' guy makes some. by your description, it might be his products heres the link from ppbb http://www.ppbb.com/boards/ppbbphp/showfla...sb=5&o=&fpart=1
  18. wow, sorry to hear that. maybe the bright side is you'll have a chip free windshield for a little while
  19. My 03 wears a bra all the time (and the mirror bras too). So no paint chips on the bumper or leading edge of the hood or mirrors. That being said, you have to be careful of a few things.. 1. You've probably seen warnings not to leave the bra on after its become wet eg, rain - the paint underneath will cloud. I have personal experieince with this year's ago and can tell you it's the truth. 2. You may get some rubbing type scratches on the top of the fenders; you may not, worse on dark colors. Minor and they can be rubbed out from what I've experienced Otherwise, it works for me. SOme folks only use them on long trips, not around towm. I'm anal, so it's always on.
  20. Looks like that there is some kind of strap with a locking nut that holds the tips to the exhaust. How do I remove/replace the tips? thanks! bob
