  1. Guys, Anyone had experience using "stretch wrap" for temporary protection? Painters tape was another suggestion, just looking for something that will last through a DE weekend & won't look too dorky driving the 2 hrs to the track :) Mehmet
  2. I believe there was a problem with the earlier generation system ( over a year ago it is listed as a "recall" for Porsche). Mine works exactly like Kim's, it appears to have more than one "failsafe". I the light stays on there is a problem with the installation or equipment. My wife is 5'4', no problem having one of my kids behind her with a forward facing seat.
  3. I had no problem getting a car seat from Carnewal.com out of Belgium a few months back. Ordered on a Tuesday, had to fill out customs paperwork for Fedex Friday, delivered on the following Monday. The airbag deactivation kit is a buckle in front of the passenger seat attached to a bar that bolts on via the seat mounts. The receptacle ties into wiring under the seat. The seat is a Britax, marked Porsche & has a special buckle. The control computer needs to be told this device is in otherwise the SRS light will stay on as an error (been there done that). I took the car to a garage with a PST-2 tool, no problem works great now. Now the issue is my 6 & 9 year old fighting over the front seat! I can get you pictures anyone's interested of the deativation device install that is (not the kids fighting). Congrats! Mehmet
  4. When I used to take long overseas trips (2-3 months +) for business there were a few things I did before putting my car away. For one I would put my car on axle stands. Having weight on the same area of a tire would eventually cause it to be out of round, especially if they went flat. Taking the weight off the suspension and immobile bearings also kept these in good shape. The other thing I would do was to put the battery on trickle charge at very low current. Lastly I would cover the car in a simple white cotton cover (Don't forget to take the handbrake off). When I returned, my car would be ready to go in a short time and act like the day I left. Some folks I knew used to drain the fuel out of the car during the winter, put oil in the cylinders and used a rod to depress the clutch pedal (to prevent seizing). I never went that far. Luckily I don't have to be away like this any more & get to use my 911 as a daily driver. The car is happy this way (and so am I) :) :)
  5. LV , kind of following on from your topic , wanted to share my experience. I have an '02 C4S I purchased with 19k mls on it. Car was very clean & I did a thorough underbody inspection. Fast forward 24k mls (plus good times) after reading yet another thread on RMS issues I went into the garage and jacked up the rear end of the 911. To my horror, oil over the front of the lower part of the engine/ transmission :censored: Took it to the dealer yesterday, fearing the worst read & studied up everything I could about the RMS issues. Went to check on the patient this morning, leak trace everywhere but no indication it is an RMS. End of today they believe they found all the leaks, here's a list; Bank 1 valve cover bolt, Bank 1 Hyd lift solenoid seal, Bank one case bolt, seepage from oil pan. Service advisor says "sometimes bolts have to be resealed on new engines". New engine news to me! Guess the car got a new engine at 18k when intermediate drive had issues. Kind of peeved the car didn't have its original motor, but relieved RMS isn't an (current) issue. Hope that is the last of the oil leaks, moral to this the story somewhere.....
  6. Check that the front trunk is in fact turning off the light when shut. You say you pulled all the bulbs, you got this one. What about the glove compartment (not sure this will cause the alarm to honk though, maybe pulling the bulbs has made the alarm think something is open)? My colleague's Volvo had an intermittent problem with the glovebox switch, caused the battery to drain intermittently. Good Luck!
  7. Follows on from the other thread concerning tire replacements. I'm looking to replace on my '4S soon, need to get something clear. Initial research shows Michelin have two tires in 295/30 (PS2 & sport rib), both appear to have very good reviews. Am I correct in saying only the Sport Rib is an N rated tire? All the recommendations regarding "Pilot Sports" are they for the Sport Rib or PS2?
  8. Had both front bearing start to whine at 19k miles, dealer replaced both. It apparently wasn't an unusual thing (!) for premature bearing failure. :o
  9. Looking toward a change of tires soon as well, currently running PZEROs. Stick like glue but wear like cheap shoes! Unfortunately have more limited choices for the C4S with 295/30's on the rear. Leaning toward the Contis as well. I run them on my Audi A6 V8, good grip in wet/dry and they are wearing very well. 8k miles they are looking as they did when new. Anyone else try the Contis on the C4S or Turbo? :unsure:
  10. ....And everybody knows red cars cost more to insure. AND you could use the hydrogen in your on board fuel cell, picking up a couple of BHP not loading down the alternator.
  11. Sounds ominous, no reply 'cause I'm sure many of us fear the worst Electronics do not tolerate reverse polarity, the engine management modules could be fried. Hopefully you are lucky, let us know. :)
  12. Guys, Thanks for the feedback, sounds like some hype and marketing involved. Interesting discussion though. On the subject of Helium, I see much less advantage with the gas. The molecule is so much smaller than N2 and O that it will probably diffuse right through the rubber! So tire pressure loss will likely be at a much higher rate than air. Not sure how helium responds to heat (expansion), it is a fairly inert gas so it would most likely act similarly to N2. Mehmet ;)
  13. Interesting discussion I heard on the "Speed" channel last night. It was the substitution of pure nitrogen for air in tire fills. They said the tire would hold pressure longer and the pressure would be more stable with temperature. I did a little research http://www.tirelast.com/id5.html Anyone have experience of N2 in tires? I work in a lab setting and have easy access to the gas, wondering whether it would be worthwhile. Mehmet :drive:

  15. New to the PCar world and my first post. I've been lurking on the board for a few months, I am continually impressed by the knowledge and passion on the board. On batteries, I know a little, battery voltage changes with temperature. The charging voltage is temperature compensated from the alternator.
