  1. I can't think of anything worse to do to a Porsche........ :) Simon
  2. Go to Sears - The battery I bought was about $100 and works fine. The Porsche battery is junk and staggeringly overpriced. Simon
  3. I second the USB Cigarette charger route. Even if you cannibalize the internals and hook to a hardwired 12V source, probably better for the electronics. Simon
  4. They are OEM if one of them is curved in the vertical plane (normally a wiper is only curved against the curvature of the window). Simon
  5. I had the same issue. The reason your wipers hit the window rubber is that they are the wrong type. If you buy after market wipers the book in your local Pep Boys will say that the wipers should fit, but in reality one of the wipers needs to be curved. That way it doesn't hit the window rubber. Get original Porsche blades and this will fix your issue. Simon
  6. I connected my Porsche trickle charger and after a day without a battery in the car, everything seemed to work just fine once the new battery was connected. Simon
  7. Hi, I have a 2004 US C2 Cab. I've read a lot of posts talking about lowering the top with they key, so this morning I looked in the manual. Turns out that both my keys are coupe keys, i.e. they don't have the roof lowering function. Was this something that wasn't put on 2004 cars, even though the manual talks about it and shows a different key? I'm pretty sure the keys are original since one of them looked band new when I bought the car used. Simon
  8. Thanks for the replies here. btw I've also had the "radio just displays 'PORSCHE'" problem just once. I'll ask the dealer about this... Simon
  9. I'm hoping someone can help me here. Every couple of weeks I turn on my CDR23 stereo with Bose premium package and hear no sound. The radio is on and shows the channel etc., except that there is no sound. Actually there is a very high pitched quiet sound, but no music etc. If I turn off the car for perhaps > 5 minutes the radio comes back. Anybody got any ideas? It's like the systems doesn't 'boot' up properly and the car needs to be turned off fully to recover. A quick cycle of the ignition doesn't fix this, but > 5 mins does. Oh, and this is a US 2004 996 C2 Cab thanks, Simon
  10. Instructions should be in the manual, but basically there is a hex socket in one of the hard top mount holes that you can insert the hard top wrench in to to lower the hard top. Simon
  11. I'm using Permatex, 2.99 a tube! Simon
  12. Thanks Loren. What would a good brand of anti-seize be from perhaps pep boys? I used some Molybdenum Disulfid grease - I assume that's not quite the right thing? Simon
  13. I recently installed spacers, and when installing the new longer lug bolts, put a small amount of grease on the areas of the bolts where the user manual specified Optimoly TA. I just used regular high temp grease. I've subsequently read that you should not use grease because it can lead to over torqued bolts. So, what should I do? thanks, Simon
  14. Becker sells one - don't recall the part number, but I bought one recently. Simon
  15. Just to be clear, the thinner will damage even the factory wheel paint? - Simon
  16. I guess this may be a silly question, but will lacquer thinner affect the original paint at all, or is it safe to use? Simon
  17. Ok, this is good. Using paint thinner to remove overspray will avoid the issue I had with spraying the parts of the wheel that are not damaged. Simon
  18. I have a very small 0.25 inch square chip on my wheel. I have purchased Wurth wheel lacquer, but was wondering if I should attempt mask and spray this area, or spray some paint into a cup and use a touch up brush. Has anybody done any minor wheel touch-up and could recommend a process? I know there is an article in this forum, but that's more about using bondo on a rim scrape. thanks, Simon
  19. I've asked this question a couple of times, so perhaps no one has ever encountered this, but here goes (with pictures): I took off my hard top a few weeks ago and noticed that the medal edge inside the hard top indicated by the red circle was touching the soft top cover: Leaving a small mark on the clear coat: I noticed that the hard top sits lower on one side than the other, so I assume I can adjust it's height by moving the locking pin down by loosening the screw show in this pic: Has anyone encountered this issue? Also, does anybody that the specs for how to adjust this properly, torque of the bolt etc.? thanks, Simon
  20. It looks like my hard top sits a little too low on one side causing part of the hard top metal to barely touch the body. Looks like the two pins (04++ type 2 with locking screws) can have their overall height adjusted, which looks like what controls the clearance from the top to the body. Does anybody have adjustment instructions for the hard top clearance? thanks, Simon
  21. Perhaps I just over-tightened the top. The side that rubbed the hard top cover clear-coat seemed low anyway. The torque was as per the user manual, and I could undo the bolts by hand afterwards. Is there an adjustment for the hard top clearance that anyone knows about? Seems like the posts that contain the locking screws would need to be moved since they set the height. Simon
  22. I just removed the hardtop from my 04 996 Cab and noticed a mark on the softtop cover on the pasenger side back caused by the back edge of the hardtop rubbing on the paint - buffed 'most' of it out. I also noticed three indentations on the front of the soft top from three structural dimples in the hardtop. Nothing too serious, but this top is not supposed to do this. This was the first year I used the hardtop myself, so no idea if the previous owner ever put the top on. Note that I was extra careful and torqued the bolts to 34ft/lbs. Any idea what the problem is? Should I get this looked at by my dealer before next winter? Simon
  23. yep, 7.5A fuse. I wired in another 12V outlet and my Valentine, placed the outlet at the back of the passenger footwell - very neat installation. Simon
  24. Ok, figured it out - the picture is from a UK car on the drivers side, and I was working on a US car.... Or the picture is reverse. Much easier on the driver's side. :) Simon
