  1. HAH! There's not a squarish piece in the bunch, but it looks like #7. I suppose the car should be on a lift to better i.d. it, but the bottom of the bumper cap to which it mates is cracked as well. Is #7 a single piece that spans the width of the underside between the wheels? You might as well give me the p/n and MSRP for the bumper cap as well, and I'll make sure the adjuster is sitting down when I show him tomorrow! Thanks for the diagrams, and boy, do I miss driving the car!
  2. Where are you located, and what's the name of the dealer? Perhaps some of us in your area might wanna give him a try. And welcome to the Forum!
  3. In addition to the damaged fender liner, I see that there is also a small, approx 8" squarish panel adrift just inboard of the attachment points of the right front wheel well liner, and just behind the front spoiler/bumper cap. Is there a p/n for this piece? It didn't show up on Sunset Imports' PET. Thanks
  4. Upon further inspection, I see that there is also a small, approx 8" squarish panel adrift just inboard of the attachment points of the rt frt wheel well liner, and just behind the front spoiler/bumper cap. What's the p/n for this piece? Thanks
  5. Why does the diagram look like the LEFT front wheel well liners? I too need the passenger side (right) front one with the vents. Thanks. Because PET only displays an image of one. They assume you know the other side is mirror image and that the parts are labels as left or right side. They should always assume what a clueless rube I am.
  6. Why does the diagram look like the LEFT front wheel well liners? I too need the passenger side (right) front one with the vents. Thanks.
  7. As I understand it, any modern tranny has up and down synchro rings (almost all using a Porsche design by the way) on all but the first gear, which lacks the upshift synchro. That's why one usually has to engage 2nd before engaging 1st at a stop. BUT, I must confess that I have the same problem, especially after a long stop with the car idling in neutral. (By habit, I'm reluctant to disengage the clutch while in-gear for long periods of time out of respect for the throwout bearing.) I just live with it, knowing that I can smoke that impatient honker behind me in his Lexus any day of the week.
  8. Oh yeah, I'll get a four-wheel alignment plus a thorough inspection of the underside. The tires and wheels should both be arriving next week, and If all goes well, I'll be blasting around town testing the patience of the CHP soon after that. Sure wish I knew exactly WHAT I hit and where. I went back to that hilly neighborhood the following day trying to retrace my route, but I couldn't find the spot.
  9. If anybody cares to see the damage I wrought, here's a coupla pics: both the front and rear passenger side wheels/tires were hit.
  10. Hopefully Sunset's got a wheel in stock, and I won't have to wait too long for the tires (number9ine: gonna go ahead and order two ), and being that the car is currently undriveable complicates things (this makes a good case for carrying a spare). The important thing is that my No. 2 son is home from classes in Boston, and my silly cat is ecstatic. We're set to have holiday get-togethers with loved ones, and that's what REALLY counts. Thanks Phil, and the best of Holiday and Christmas wishes to all.
  11. That's a good point. The tires were new as of 6 months and 2000 miles ago, but if I get a decent break from Costco and the insurance company, I'll probably order two. And of course I'll have the underpinnings thoroughly inspected and an alignment performed afterward.
  12. On the way home tonight from a little Christmas shopping, I hit a major unseen (it was dark) dip at a residential intersection in an unfamiliar neighborhood. About ten minutes later, my steering felt a little funny, and the car had a tendency to pull to the right upon braking. I was close to home, so I decided to drive the rest of the way. After I pulled into my garage, I saw that the Mich Pilot sport was flat and heavily damaged, but the edge of the wheel rim looked as if it was hit by a .50 caliber bullet: part of the rim being torn and bent away from the tire! The tire is covered by a road hazard warranty, and I've got an estimate request into Sunset Imports for the wheel. I also notified my insurance company right away. The worst part is that I'll likely be without my car for several weeks while waiting for a wheel from Sunset and a tire from Costco. And I wasn't even driving fast.
  13. My only gripe with them big 20's, is that they make the 'S' rotors look like a Corolla's! ;) I'd invest in some PCCB's with the yaller calipers. I hear 2nd mortgages are cheap nowadays. . .
  14. I've got the same exhaust system rattle in mine, and occasionally what sounds like a starter pinion over-run that lasts less than a second. I change the oil and filter (probably a little too often) at about every 5000 miles and run the car as hard as I can get away with on public roads, using 6-7K revs regularly. So far, nothing's exploded in 45K+ miles.
  15. Welcome to the Forum! Is your oil level OK BEFORE you first crank the motor? You have to look at the little indicator just below the tach and wait till it stops cycling. These things don't come with proper dipsticks any more!
  16. You talking fuel mileage (which is laughable) or odometer mileage? And welcome to the forum!
  17. I topped up the oil (about 8 oz) in mine before I took it over Southern California's somewhat notorious Latigo Cyn just the other day. It's a steep climb up from the coast with very tight turns, and I noticed that it needed ANOTHER 8 oz top-up this morning. Could be that I threw some 0W-40 into the heads myself. Didn't see any smoke out thru the rear window though, but I was a bit busy hanging on for dear life (with a big grin) at the moment to notice! My car's got 42K miles on the odo.
  18. Those monster brakes, ABS and superior handling saved MY bacon more than once! Welcome to the Forum!
  19. I set mine using the little knob with the clock face just below the oil pressure gauge, and the clock's pretty accurate. But setting the PCM is indeed WAY too complicated! Last night I couldn't shut up the nagging Navi lady constantly telling me to "turn right then left"!
  20. By GOLLY! It IS there! I could only see it by looking in the area at an angle and shifting my head just enough, so I could see the ever so slight change in the reflection of the junk in my garage.
  21. The first Porsche I drove was a 996 Carrera (non-S), and I was absolutely blown away by the performance! On paper, the acceleration times between S and non-S versions look to be mere tenths of a second apart. My car doesn't have the Sport option, but it's still enough to scare the daylights out of me! And the torque on tap at 4000+ revs is breathtaking! I think the only solution is to drive both back-to-back and then decide if the extra performance (and cachet) is worth the extra cost. Oh, and if you drive an S the way it's supposed to be driven, the fuel "economy" is downright laughable! Have fun!
  22. It's said that Miatas and bugeye Sprites are fun cars. Sorry, but they just don't hold a candle to our little monsters. And please translate the term "welli". I take it to be slang for "Wellington" (the boot), and that's exactly what I give mine more often than not. Kick it around four Grand (that's where the torque and bhp curves cross) and hang on!
  23. I've got over 40K miles on mine, and the only problem I have with it is adhering to the speed limit! Like philipj says, drive it hard, and leave the short grocery store trips to the family Toyota or Honda. Cheers, and welcome to the forum.
