  1. I have a 05 997 with 19" and I drive it year round. Absolutely no traction in even a millimeter of snow. On those three days out of the year that it snows heavily and the streets aren't plowed in time in Chicago, I just take a cab.
  2. How much was labor? I assume $125-130/hr. How many hours did it take? Thanks!
  3. Where are you getting the windshield for $550? Dealer? Is it Porsche OEM with the antenna? (Obviously I have a crack in my windshield too!) :(
  4. Thanks all! If the local dealership didn't charge 20% on restocking returns, I'd return my filters and buy them promptly from Sunset. As such, I'll keep the dealer bought ones and use them this weekend, and order several sets from sunset for future work. Thanks!
  5. For some reason, neither of my side view mirrors on a 2003 C4S works. Am I overlooking something obvious? I push the button below the joystick on the left side view mirror pod and then toggle the joystick, and the mirrors don't move. Then I click the button to the other side and toggle the joystick, still nothing. I've tried this with the motor running and with the car off. Is there a particular sequence that is needed? The owner's manual doesn't go into details. Maybe the mechanism is just busted and I need to bring it to the service dept?
  6. I spent a load of cash today on air filter, oil filter, and pollen filter. Where can I get the OEM parts for less than full dealership MSRP?
  7. I was just about to buy one of these OEM short shifters, but I hate trouble shooting mods.
  8. $162 at the local parts counter doesn't get you much. Air filter, pollen filter and oil filter. I vaguely remember seeing all this stuff for sale on this website for about $88!
  9. The Rhino ramps worked! It's $15.99 at Pep Boys in Chicago. It seems to fit a 225 or 235 wide tire (ie. front tire). My 295's stick out about 3 inches on either side, but it gets the car up in the air!
  10. Thanks for the reply. I've been reading that thread regarding the 03 Boxter and 04 C2. I have a 03 C4S with the CD 23 CD player, yes Bose system, yes ext amp, no navigation, no phone. I figure that the fiber optic cable I need is 996 622 708 00 I took that from the parts list thread.
  11. With my former BMWs, I remember getting two radio security code cards for the CD player. When the power goes out (ie. unplug the battery), the code has to be put into the indash CD player before it works again. I didn't get any cards with my 2003 C4S. I'm about to buy a CD4 Changer (will get Porsche Exchange near Chicago to install!!) and I'm concerned about the lack of the security code. Does Porsche use that antiquated system of code cards or is it something else? Thanks!
  12. Is there any good novice friendly 996 shop manuals/technical manuals available? I used to have Bruce Anderson's 911 performance handbook back in the days when I had an aircooled 911.
  13. I miss Autozone. I used to buy Mobil One 0W40 for $4.25 a bottle. I still have about 30 bottles stored downstairs right now because I stocked up when they had a sale!
  14. Thanks for the feedback! I definitely enjoy "working" on my car by myself and I can't justify paying $100+ for an oil change. Those rhino ramps look pretty good.
  15. I have a C4S and I wanted to use ramps to gain access below the car for simple maintenance. Is there any clearance issues with the car? Do most of you guys use jacks or ramps?
  16. My roof liner is made of that material. It looks like suede. Check out Western Storex in San Francisco. You can try and give them a call. They carry a huge stock of leather and suede. I used to go by a lot when I lived in SF back in the days and buy scrap leather for the interior of scale model car kits. Western Storex 149 9th st. Between Howard and Mission San Francisco. 415-431-1458
  17. Are you going to replace it with new 996 horns or will you use the classic 911 air horns? My old 993 had air horns and I loved it. I'm thinking about switching out the horns on my C4S and putting in air horns.
  18. I've seen it twice, both at the detroit auto show, once in 2003 when it was launched along with the GT2 and once in 2004, where they had a carbon fiber skeleton and engine display as well. My buddy took some pix of me touching the carbon fiber frame as it was not behind any ropes (at least not further away than my arm's reach).
  19. I also use lexol, but i noticed that lexol has handy wipes available preloaded with lexol on the tissue! It's about $5 for a container of these handy wipes, and I don't recall how many wipes are in one jar, but has anybody used them? I guess I'm just lazy when it comes to getting that warm moist cloth and bottle of lexol out.
