  1. I believe what you are hearing is the sound of the small microswitch engaging/dis-engaging as you push in / release the clutch. It is perfectly normal and is there to prevent us knuckleheads from starting the car without the clutch disengaged. I know some peope have taken a piece of tape or a ziptie and wrapped it around the microswitch (located at the top of the clutch pedal arm) to keep it closed, but it is not a big deal to me. Hope this helps.
  2. Hello All, Been reading and searching a lot lately and seems like the ROW M030 suspension upgrade would be very helpfull in settling the C4 down for better handling. I have found a few sources for the parts (Gert at Carnewal seems like a good choice for example) but not much related to the installation process itself. Yes, I could have it done by a dealer or independent I suppose, but would rather do it myself if possible. Has anyone (Loren or other) written up the installation procedure or can otherwise guide me? Thanks in advance, Mark in Boston
  3. Sorry, did not notice you wanted to change color too. Please check this link http://www.properautocare.com/renclotsofto1.html It is a product from England that is made for convertible tops. It will dye a top black and is said to do a pretty good job. regards,
  4. Have you treated the top recently? By that, I mean have you applied either Raggtop or the Porsche Cabriolet protectant within the past year or so? In my past 2000 Boxster S (Grey top), I had some fading and noticed that after applying Raggtop it darkened back considerably close to what it was before. Might be worth the less than $20 and an hour's worth of time to try it. :D
  5. John, I've used both the Porsche Cabriolet sealant product as well as the Raggtop brand. I can honestly say that the Raggtop brand is a lot easier to use and seems to work just as well. You do need to put on several coats of the Raggtopp product though. Actually, it is interesting to note that the Raggtop brand is also endorsed by Haartz - the maker of the material/fabric used in the cab top - and is a heck of a lot easier cleanup. On the cleaner side, I am currently using the Porsche cab cleaner product, but have just recently purchased the Raggtop cleaner product and will try it in the spring. I had a stain on the top previously and the dealer said they used the Raggtop cleaner product to get it off - that's why I am trying it - although the Porsche cab cleaner product has worked well for me in the past. BTW, regardless of the product you choose (but especially if you choose to use the Porsche product) you should really mask off the rest of the car to make clean-up easier. I found a great product which is one made by 3M that has a plastic drop cloth together with a masking tape used for painting. I can't remember the name of it, but you can get it at Home Depot, and sold in rolls having various widths of the drop cloth (white) with a strip of tape (blue) attached. Simply roll out the tape along the tops of the windows, windshield and back of the car and then gently pull out the drop cloth. Works great! Mark J.
  6. Bought a used hardtop off E-Bay for my new Cab. Planning on having it painted to match car color (Seal Grey) and wonder if there are any things to advise the bodyshop about. In particular, I note what looks like 2 rubber strips running the length (front to back) on the top. I suspect that these should NOT be painted, but not sure. Also don't know if they need to be removed to paint, can just be masked off or need to be replaced. Got the red allen wrench for locking the top in place (have not tried it yet) and believe it is pretty straight forward to attach - but have not tried it yet. Any comments appreciated. Don, I think you are back home now and Loren notes you as an expert in Cabs, so would appreciate any insight! thanks, Mark J.
  7. FWIW, you may also want to have them check where the door (lock) meets the catch or striker (latch) on the car. Both myself and a buddy had trouble with noise from that area. Turned out that it was basically set too low (or too high) and it was rubbing/rattling from there. A couple of minutes with a torq and problem fixed! Mark J.
  8. Have used the Langka product several times in the past. It works pretty well and get's rid of the "blob" effect. A little lac on top is O.K., but not really that necessary IMO.
  9. Thanks Loren. Thanks B-Man. I quess just being a little paranoid. B)
  10. Thanks very much Don! I will certainly do so. regards, Mark J.
  11. Hello, As a new owner of a 03' C4 Cab from a 00' Boxster S, I have a few more gauge's to worry about. One is the oil pressure that seems to be running a little high. The manual says it should be between 3-4 bar at 5K rpm. I am still breaking in (only about 600 miles so far) and do not run that high yet, but it seems I am normally seeing 4-5 bar at about 3.5Krpm. In the morning, when things are cold, it seems to peak out at 5 bar for first 10 minutes or so - maybe normal? Question, what do others seem to see as "normal" running oil pressure? Also, does my experience so far seem appropriate/acceptable or perhaps reason for concern? thanks, Mark J. in Boston
  12. Hello, Dealer was able to remove grease mark on top with some sort of "industrial strength" cleaner. Now concerned to re-apply sealant/waterproofer. Have used Porsche's Top sealer in the past on my Boxster. Any consensus on what works best? thanks, Mark J.
