  1. In the book I mention earlier they say that model 2000 had 7.2.2 software and in 2002 it was upgraded to 7.8. And this is what I got on my car which is 2002.... Don't you think your's was already updated ? Do you have the TSB title and number ?
  2. I got in front of me the book "996 the essential companion" and they say about the incorporated change in 2002 : "DME (ECU) 7.8 engine and diagnostic software introduced as standard on all normally aspirated Carrera models. Different version programming required for US OBDII, EU EOBD and RoW/option M150 versions" ( M150 Emission system removed for country without unleaded fuel). So in conclusion it is related to the catalytic converter in use. Because up to 1999 there was 3 different types... There has to be other upgraded function but the list here is very long... I guess you got version 7.2.2 ?
  3. Can you be more specific about this leak?. You mean the complete tank empty through these joints and plug? When you say the oil gauge your talking about the pressure gauge? These leaks looks like seams and not running leak to me and the fault was it related to oil pressure gauge. It is common to have oil pressure warning but the fault erase itself after restart due to oil pressure sender malfunction.
  4. The only way I can see is by looking on sticker inside the trunk lid. Below the vin number you got engine number which is M96/70 and after that you got the transmission number G9850...Under this last number you got the paint code and the next number is the color combination and materiel code. What is this number?
  5. The clutch system operate from two different source on the 996TT. The clutch actuation system and the steering system for extra boost. Normally migration can happen from the steering reservoir to the clutch reservoir. But not the opposite. My guess is you must have a leak somewhere and I suggest to operate the clutch several times with the engine running and take a look under the car in the middle where the clutch line connection to the slave actuator is located...
  6. Probably due to the difficult winter your having in Vancouver ;) .
  7. I can be wrong but if care is taken when switching the sprocket (cam actuator) from the old one to the new one, after removing the tension on the timing chain, you should be easily back to the notch.... How can you be off by one took on the chain will all the references.... Even without the tools I think it is possible to be done.... Anybody don't hesitate to tell me if I am wrong.....
  8. I always end up with TRAGTTUTS print in my palm. I don't know why?
  9. there is a start lock relay between starter and DME but your problem seems to be a weak battery...
  10. The repair manual also recommend to replace the bolt (M12) that hold the actuator to the cam. Item#5
  11. They also got a dial indicator to found the top dead center but this is not a specific tool... Amazing what we can see when we look at the build up several times....Look at the oil conduits that feed the cam actuator...There will be some parts to purchase like the cam housing cover gasket, o-ring for the cam cover, gasket for the tension adjuster etc.
  12. When you look at the engine removal on "Imagine Auto", there is a lot of tools needed for that job. Especially the tool to adjust the cams chain tension...I don't know if we can do anything without those special tools and my experience with Porsche is limited to engine removal and clutch replacement on a 1974 Carrera. May be somebody on this site did the job in the past and can help!. Engine removal
  13. May be I should come down and give you a hand. It is -15F in Montreal today and in Puerto Rico almost 90F.
  14. I am looking into the system and if the oil pressure conduit is not blocked the only other possibilities is the actuator itself directly onto the cam. The item 4 on the first picture. It is an expensive component as you can see....
  15. You show a lot of mechanical knowledge so far. Why don't you pursue the adventure and at least take the engine out yourself ?
  16. I am very sorry for you. I don't have any other suggestion. Thanks a lot for keeping us informed and I wish you good luck for the rest of this saga.
  17. Just received today "996 The essential companion". Cannot believed the size of this book. 656 pages of valuable information. Turbo included + many answers to many questions I had.... I completely agree with josserman and I highly recommended it to all of you guys.
  18. Same here, hard to close. I also have to push hard on the Porsche crest like you mention...
  19. Purchase mine in march and I did a Carfax to know if the mileage was exact and also how many owners and they will also tell you if there was a possibility the car was in an area of major flood. My first question to the seller was were the maintenance was done and I have contacted the shop and they told me about the frequency of the oil changes and inspection etc.... That was a valuable information. Before I purchase my airplane tickets to fly down to Orlando I ask the seller to send me high definition pics of the car... But my own inspection was really important + after I drove it there was no return. I fell in love and do not regret it.... Good luck.
  20. Wow !!!! A lot of toys ! Beautiful garage and a lift !!!!! You are full equipt.... We got a snow storm this morning in Montreal. Forecast, over 10 inches of snow. I realized you got chain on your tractor. Are you under the same storm?
  21. I don't understand... You don't have the hose already out of the car on your workbench?
  22. There has to be a way to disconnect the fitting from the hose (stupid to say from me). Circlip of some kind because the base of the new fitting looks exactly like the base of the old one. Keeps us inform of your findings. That is not something we have to dismantle when we replaced the slave....
  23. Looking at the picture of the new unit...Looks like a theaded portion is going into the assy....
  24. I am trying to understand where this hose goes to. One end seems to be good for the fitting onto the green line but the other end ??? It doesn't fit into the new unit that replaced the slave ?
