  1. Cut a piece of wood to put between your seat and the brake pedal. Push the pedal forward and wedge the wood in place to hold the pedal depressed. This will keep your fluid from draining while you have the caliper(s) off. When you have completed the rebuild(s) get a different color fluid to flush the system. That way you will definately know when the new fluid has arrived at the bleeders.
  2. Black soot on one side almost sounds like a "stuck" fuel injector washing down the cylinder wall and diluting the oil.
  3. A cell phone or lack of one might be part of the problem. Periodically the unit will beep and tell me no TP. I am assuming that means no Cell phone or no cell coverage? I do not have a cell installed in the car but I do have one on my belt.
  4. 2003 996 audio system burst of static on or off -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The other day while driving my 2003 996 cab I turned on the radio/CD. The radio face lit but no sound. I turned the radio off with the thought of checking it when I got home. A few minutes later ther was a very loud burst of "static" in all of the speakers. This continued to happen 5 or 6 times in a 20 minute drive, radio off or on, and even once after the ignition was turned off in the garage. I pulled the two audio fuses D 8 & 9. The noise stopped. I put the fuses back in and everything worked as normal???? Anybody have any clues as to what is going on? Does the amp have a relay somewhere that was/is sticking?
  5. Joost, It was P&W somewhere near Morristown NJ. The indy Shade Tree Garage in Morristown has worked with them for "many years". Frank
  6. Rick, I have a 2003 cab wi 32K miles. It had an ISS leak. This was changed as was the (dry ?!?! could it be?!?) RMS under warranty. I paid for a complete clutch pack ~$800 with tax. The clutch probably was about ~60% worn. I intend to keep the car for many miles or until the engine blows up at 35k miles, so for free labor why not? Frank
  7. I am sorry to have missed Marvin. I just hang with the slow crowd on the east coast at Watkins Glenn, Pocono, Lime Rock, Bridghampton, VIR, Mosport, Shenendoah and Mid Ohio. Now to address my original question about cutting a dual mass flywheel; I got the car back today with a new clutch pack, RMS, ISS and the throw out bearing arm update. It appears that I am one of the lucky ones that got away with resurfacing the fly wheel. With the caveat of only 50 miles on it I am very happy with the clutch feel and lack of any noticeable imbalance induced vibration. Thank You all for your input. Please give my best to Marvin Frank
  8. If you want to rule out the belt dribble a little water on it while it is at idle. If it is the belt the water will make it slip at a different frequency or make the squeal, if it is belt noise go away for a minute.
  9. I want to thank you folks for the information. I let them "cut" the flywheel. I did not have much choice. It is a warranty job, I bought the car from a high end reseller, and they would not guarantee it unless the flywheel was resurfaced. I will report back when I get the car back.
  10. Can/should a 2003 911 Carrera dual mass fly wheel be resurfaced?
