  2. Should be 0 to 5 ohms. Yes, I would check for a bad connector wiring issue. Hi all, i think i have a related problem to what i have been reading in this thread. I have a '99 C4 Cab. a few weeks ago i noticed a rough idle when warm and the check engine light came on. one shop read the code as P1341 and then cleared it and wants to replace the tensioner for around $2200. CEL came back after 50 miles or so, so i got a second opinion. The second opinion read the fault and wants to replace the timing chain sensor for around $600. Who do i believe? Thanks in advance
  3. Well, this is not very scientific, but in my experience, a good test is to listen for the sound and see if it comes and goes as you turn to one side or the other. Wheel bearings will often start by making sound seemingly intermittently but it may come and go as you change lanes or turn to one side or the other.
  4. I am considering the unthinkable and am looking at a set of winter wheels for my 996 C4. Anyway, I have found a set of wheels off am '01 C2. Fronts are 17x7 and rears are 17x9. Bolt pattern is 5x130 and the front offset is 52mm and rear offset is 47mm. I am having trouble finding out whether these offsets will work on my 1999 C4 Cab. I guess two questions would be, will the offsets be acceptable (i.e. not interfere with brakes etc.) and the second is a harder question...does anyone have a feel for what this will do to the ride quality and handling? Obvously the 17s are different than my factory 18s but I have read that the offsets can play a big role. Thanks in advance for any advice!
  5. You guys are awesome and I second the sentiment that this is worth the price of admission! I have finally found the time to take it apart and take the seat out and carpet and it is exactly as was originally suggested. The drain plugs behind the wheel wells were clogged with years of debris. It was a simple matter to clear them...not so simple to dry out the car. Luckily the water did not reach any of the electronics and simply soaked the carpets and foam. I really suggest that if anyone has to dry out the carpets that they remove them compeltely. It seems like the only way to get 100% of the water out. The foam holds a lot of water! Anyway, I found some very tiny rust spots at some seams in the pan and I cleaned and painted those. Now I know what to look for and I can simply maintain the drains instead of spending a whole weekend day taking my car apart and smelling nasty water...THANKS!!!
  6. I had the same problem recently on my 996 cab and it was in fact the drain plug on the pass side. Its an easy fix if you catch it before it fries anything electronic. In the 996 the ECU is dangerously low in the wheel well. I had an inch of water. I am not sure of the Boxster but in the 996 you simply have to remove the rear wheel and wheel well liner and find the drain ply and clear it. 1 hr. or less. Of course then you have to dry out the wheel well. This takes some doing because there is a lot of foam under the carpet to retain water. I actually removed my carpet and dried it and then reinstalled it. Also, you will want to make sure there is no rust in the floor pan depending on how long the water was in there.

Hi all, I have read a lot about leaking AC drain tubes, clogged AC drain tubes, and improperly applied door seals, door panel membranes, etc. But...this water in the back seat of my C4 cab stumps me. Its NOT from the top, the top seals, etc. Near as I can tell its not from any of the aforementioned issues...unless I am missing something. The AC for example seems to be dripping out from the underside as it should. The water is actually up in the pass rear seat well and on the floor of the pass rear. Is there such a thing as a convertible top drain tube for the cab tray or something like that? Any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I've got the carpet, padding and rear seats and seat belts out now trying to dry things out :unsure: ...
