  1. I can't stress how important oil level is in this car. I'm currently fronting a $28k engine rebuilt b/c one of the connecting rod bearings failed...most likely due to insufficient lubrication.
  2. Has this resolved your problem here by changing the HID's and what is the cost on these and what and were are the best and most inexpensive to get? I just purchased my cayenne and it is already doing this to me as well. Error message that headlight dipped and going out at night as well. Please let me know. Thanks Keith I get this message as well. What is the 'dipped light' anyway?
  3. I rarely ever see any Peppers on my daily commute. But tonight, coming home heading north on 167 I was being followed by those distinct headlights. There was quite a bit of traffic but I could tell this driver wanted to get past me. Traffic cleared and I merged to the right to see what type of Cayenne was following me. I was expecting the driver to pull up along side of me so we could exchange a pleasant thumbs-up but this guy just did a quick fly-by and left me with my thumb sticking up in the air all by itself It was a gorgeous white (somehow clean in all this recent rain) GTS! Well, kinda peeved about not getting a return wave I manually dropped down to 3rd gear and proceeded to pass the guy with ease. My '05 might only be up 30hp but you can't deny the extra torque in the biturbos. I slowed after showing him my taillights (honestly, I wasn't even sure he was racing) and he swerved out into the HOV lane over the double white lines (illegal to cross and illegal b/c you need a passenger) and took off. And that was that. The second Pepper I saw was on the 405N just b/f the I90 intersection. He was in the right lane making an exit. Again, it was a new GTS only in the fastest color (black). I waved but, again, no return or even a glance. Oh well, maybe the Cayenne crowd isn't into those types of exchanges. When I had the CTSV people would flag you down to talk cars. Maybe it's an American muscle car thing?
  4. The exhaust came on it already. I've heard stock exhausts and I think the TechArt one is just right. Has a nice little low-rpm burble and is a bit louder when you open her up. Does not drone at hwy speeds. I've been meaning to take some audio/video of the exhaust while driving around but haven't gotten around to it yet.
  5. Huh, I just checked out your Cayenne on your website and there is an additional Porsche badge on the back of yours?? Yep, when I bought it there was an extra badge already fixed to the trunk...just like yours. It's now stuck to the wall in my garage. I'm not trying to be a jerk - just my .02. To me, it's like having H O N D A stickers on your front window.
  6. ^^Looks great! Please take off that extra Porsche badge though...cheezy.
  7. I took mine to the dealership for peeling buttons, air vents, rear ash trays and rear window shade surround. They replaced all of them under warranty. They did have to replace the entire airbag too.
  8. 2005 CTT -Techart exhaust -Techart front/rear bumpers -Techart side skirts -Techart steering wheel & gauges -Techart 22" Formula -Techart lowering module
  9. I've made a small video; should have done that in the first place instead of trying to describe the noise.. anyone else recognize this? Wow, that's quite a knock. Definitely not normal. Sorry I can't help much though. Doesn't sound like the headers.
  10. I've had my '05 CTT for about 3 months now. Don't have any vibration that I am aware of...but now at least I will notice it if it starts to begin. I do, however, experience the hard 1-2 shift at times.
  11. I've also thought about chipping my '05CTT. The dealer told me they've only seen two blown engines and both were chipped. At a $23k replacement cost, it kinda scared me out of chipping it. Given the CS is naturally aspirated I don't see you having any problems. (Sorry I didn't answer your question).
  12. The 05's have DVD based navigation. The other thing to look out for is mp3 audio capability in the PCM if you care. AFAIK this was introduced late in MY05. Thomas How do you know (other than putting an mp3 CD into the changer) if you have the correct PCM to play mp3's? Certain version? To the OP: I bought an '05 CTT. I took it to the dealer to have it checked over and do any warranty work that wasn't fixed by the previous owner. They replaced all the coilpacks to the updated version. They replaced all of the vent surrounds and window switches that were peeling. They replaced one of the rear sunshades as well. They've ordered replacement steering wheel buttons that are peeling too. They also replaced both of the tailgate struts that were going bad. All that under warranty. I did pay $1300 for the 40k mile service and bought a 2nd key at $350 just to get them to like me and not seem like too big of a pain the butt.
  13. I had a similar metallic clicking sound in my CTS-V. I had it modified with a supercharger, headers, exhaust and a bunch more. I took it into the shop and they diagnosed a bad bearing in the supercharger. They had it rebuilt and reinstalled it only to find the clicking noise still there. It ended up being a $20 header gasket that fixed the problem. Apparently the stainless steel headers make metallic pinging sounds when exhaust gasses are escaping through the gaskets. I'm just trying to say that you should look for the simple fixes b/f you start tearing your engine apart.
  14. Is the 589.6hp the ACTUAL dyno number or your guess as to what the crank number would be? Or is it just the number you arrived at by adding up the advertised numbers? You do realize that if you just added up the advertised numbers then you are likely waaaaaaaay off. That's just not how it works. If it was then my Cadillac (supercharger, headers, exhaust, intake and tune) had about 700hp. Post up your dyno when you get a chance. I'm guessing you're only making around 420-440hp at the wheels (assuming about a 20% drivetrain loss). Also, if you chirped a gear in that 5800lb AWD automatic behemoth then you better look into new tires b/c that shouldn't happen at those power numbers. Anyway, congrats on the mods and enjoy your car!
  15. Mine came with a TechArt exhaust and I have to tell ya I'm quite impressed with the sound. I've always loved the sound of American V8's and thought nobody could match that bad-*** sound. This comes pretty **** close!
  16. Turn off PSM first!!! I've never taken mine to the track but I wouldn't think brake torquing the engine would hurt. Worked for an automatic car I had a few years back. Might take a little of the turbo lag out of the equation. Will the brakes hold it? Also, where does power peak with your tune? You might want to manually shift it to get the most out of the powerband and gearing. Sometimes autos like to upshift once they're getting over 80mph even though you're still WOT.
  17. I turn my PSM to "off" every now and then, but not always. It isn't really practical for driving slowly around town... always holding 3rd gear, etc. Sometimes I upshift with the tiptronic controls on the wheel in combination with PSM off. It is certainly the way to go for spirited driving. I guess I'm just having a hard time letting go of my CTSV's manual transmission. (sigh)
  18. How many of you press the PSM button as soon as you start up your trucks? I've only had my Turbo for about 3 weeks and over the past few days I pretty much immediately turn off the PSM. I just love the increased throttle response and the tendency to hold gears longer. The regular program feels way too lazy and always upshifts when I'm about to merge. I know a couple taps of the tiptronic buttons gets me in a lower gear but the PSM-off program seems way more in line with how I drive. If only it had a manual trans....(sigh) BTW, for those of you with chipped Turbos, does the new programming mimick the better throttle response of the PSM-off?
  19. My wife's Nissan Murano has the keyless feature at a no-cost standard feature. $2000 is pathetic, but expected, from Porsche. She loves the feature. I personally dislike it. If we are going somewhere in the Murano together I tend not to carry the 2nd keyfob with me since she'll have one in her purse. also, as with the Cayenne, the Nissan's keyfob is just too large to add to my keychain. If I drive and drop her off somewhere (like the mall) and forget to grab the key from her then the **** car starts beeping like crazy and I have to open the windows and scream at her to stop and give me the key. I know that sounds dramatic but it happens alot.
  20. I had an issue with the parking brake light staying on last night. I pushed the brake back in several times thinking it would pop the brake out 'just a little more' and trigger the light to turn off but it didn't work. The light stayed on and it beeped at me the whole ride home (only about a mile). This morning the light was off and all has been well so far. Any ideas or similar problems?
