  1. Yup....I used my blade and a mallet to break all the tabs off.
  2. Oh you can do it, but the weight you are adding is not good. Might as well drag an anchor behind the car :)
  3. The hardest part is cutting those **** plastic tabs out that hold in the OEM shifter. I used a few 4-letter bombs during that one. The instructions make it sound like an exacto will just cut them away. Yeah right.
  4. Your way with it removed looks much better!
  5. I just cleaned mine with alcohol to get all the dirt, etc, off and painted them chrome. Turned out fantastic. For $5 you can't go wrong. I bought the paint at Pep Boys and it's called Bumper Chrome. I figured I would try it on one lug and if I didn't like it then I would replce it. Much better than buying chrome lugs for $10+ each! Here is the link to the product I used. http://www.plastikote.com/plastikote/auto/...ct=BumperChrome
  6. I just installed the B&M SSK and it took about 1 hour. ALso, this was my first B&M install. So confident now, that I would actually help somebody else if they needed the help. Paying the dealer $350 is insane. I haven't noticed the "cold" shift problem, but then again I am in Vegas.
  7. yup, and 8.5" on the front. Lotta rim and tire to pull w/o those turbo's :)
  8. See this thread: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4397
  9. That setup is run on the GT2 as 235/40/18 and 315/30/18. But that is a lot of rubber to pull with a NA996.
  10. Looks like I am at 6 with the lip....7.5 without.
  11. Not sure how to paste it next to it but here are 2 pics that you can use.
  12. If you are on a budget then you own the wrong car. Sorry for being so blunt but it's the truth. I enjoy a challenge as well (as I am sure most do) but there are some things that you just don't take on....this is one of them.
  13. OK, so I finally got the lip installed. 1000X better aesthetically than the mk1 lip. I have attached some pics of the final result with the mk2 lip (supercup lip). FYI....it is NOT a direct fit based on hole alignment except for the middle hole which is perfect so you can line it up perfectly centered. What I did was attach the lip to the GT3 bumper using the single hole that lines up (middle one) and held the rest of the lip on with painters tape. Then I drilled holes into the GT3 bumper using the new lip as a guide utilizing the predrilled holes in the lip. I also used the screw holding on the brake duct and the end of each side of the lip for added stability. One last thing....I have to cut off about 1 inch after install was complete where it went past the bumper into the wheel well opening. Total time from start to finish was under 1 hour.
  14. Jump on th tire rack site and search for your tire since they have large pics of differnt angles of the tire. Also, the tire will say on the side which one it is. Large Pic of PS RIB: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/BigPic.jsp?t...romCompare1=yes PS2: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/BigPic.jsp?t...romCompare1=yes
  15. Doing to front Turbo conversion is much different than the rear. At least in the front we know that the turbo front will fit unless you have a 99-01 996 then you know you need fenders and lights. Berny asked if the tail will fit. It doesn't. I guees we are caught in a game of semantics here. Either way, good info from all. BTW, your soapbox is much more polite than most. Thanks for engaging in a healthy debate versus attacks. See you on the next thread :) It's all good. Cheers, Dell
  16. Not exactly the first you post you want to make since this topic has been covered ad nauseum. Use the search function and search the old posts and get familiar with what is available. As far as painting pieces there is a difference between being good with a paint gun and being a professional. From the sounds of it, your in-law is not a professional since you are asking these questions. My advice is to contact Eric at Bumper Plugs since he does this as a professional and caters to this community especially. You won't be dissapointed if you go with Eric. Everybodyt raves about his work.
  17. Gator, you must be a lawyer b/c only that answer you gave would be what I call a technicality. Listen, ANYTHING can be done. If somebody posts that they want to know if they can convert their 986 into a 996 are you going to say yes? Of course, b/c with enough money anything is possible. But does it make sense? Of course not. And by the way, porschebabe and robyn have mk2 wings. And the wing that porschebabe has is one that had the pillars cut down so the CAB surround would still clear the wing. Also, DR didn't say what kind of custom job had to be done on that turbo wing other than it was custom.....hence, it doesn't fit. FYI...Berny didn't say "at any cost" he asked if it fit. Come on Gator....Anybody can get a square peg into a round hole but at what cost?
  18. Just replied to your post over at rennlist. "If you have the RoWM030 on a 2000 C4 you would have red/lilac/silver dots. The dots you have listed state you have standard." Time for a new mod??? :)
  19. Oh yeah, forgot to add.......WAY TO GO!!!!! 85K in 3 years, I am impressed. Now that is what I call using the car for what it was intended....DRIVING!
  20. BTW, breaking it in EASY is not good for the car. You may very well have a leak problem b/c you didn't get the seals heated up properly to form a good seal. Those beginning miles are the most crucial for future oil retention. It is not luck of the draw it usually can be traced back to how you broke it. (except for RMS since it is a manufacture defect and not a seal defect)
  21. My car is a 2000 996 and hasn't consumed a drop since day one. I have the oil changed every 5-7.5K miles and have never had to add b/t changed. Honestly? You need to get it checked out. It could be very simple.
  22. Check out this thread. It was just covered extensively: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...ad.php?t=197568
  23. Maybe pick up a used one for next to n othing on eBay from somebody who has upgraded their exhaust to the Sport exhaust. If you had a 996 I would send you mine.
