My preference is the one on the left. Simple, yet elegant. Much like a Porsche.

Does anyone know if the PCM
for the 991.1 can be updated
to 991.2 specs?
Thanks

Problem solved. I mounted new tires on
the front wheels and clunking, grinding
noise is gone. I know, it's magic.

Happy New Year to all
My 2012 C2S with 15k miles has been great with no issues except when I turn the steering wheel to either
the right or left lock there is a clunking, grinding noise that is bothersome when moving. I took the car to the dealer and the service guy said that this is normal. I don't believe him.
Suggestions/solutions would be appreciated and more than welcome.

I'm embarassed to show only 16K on my 2007 C2S. But that's 5K more than when I got it 3 months ago.
Buy low, sell high.

My 2012 911/991S experiences the same results
going forward. Same response?

Just a thought.....can you lock the car manually with the second key?

Milostyn
Sorry, can't resist. You LOSE your keys along with your LOOSE change.

Mijostyn
For whatever reason, the 997.2 will not let you check the oil level without the engine being warm and idling.
-
Mijostyn, I don't wish to contradict but the below quote is from the manual, it states to check the oil cold (before embarking on a journey if the vehicle has not been driven for an extended period) ie. cold, or after refuelling ie hot. I have found that with mine measure at cold and it will indicate full then measure at hot and it indicates over full, so take your pick but they won't read the same! Oh for a dipstick again! Probably best to settle for under when cold and full when hot.
Display and measurement of the engine oil level
Caution!
Risk of engine damage.
f Regularly check the oil level after refuelling.
f Do not allow the oil level to fall below the minimum mark.
Conditions for measuring the oil level
1. It is important to ensure that the vehicle is horizontal for correct oil level measurement to occur.
2. Engine is off.
3. Ignition on.
Oil return time
Before the oil level is measured, the engine oil has to have flowed back into the oil pan.
The time taken for the engine oil to flow back depends on the engine temperature and how long the engine has been stopped.
This waiting time is counted down in the on-board computer display when the ignition is switched on.
The oil level display segments start to "cycle". It is best to measure the engine oil level before embarking on a journey (if the vehicle has not been driven for an extended period) or with the
engine at operating temperature.
Shorter waiting times are achieved in this way.
Initiating oil level measurement
Switch ignition on (do not start the engine).
The engine-oil level measurement display appears in the on-board computer.
Allow waiting time to elapse.
Once the measurement has been completed, you can read off the engine oil level on the segment display.
– If the segments are filled in up to the top line, the oil level has reached the maximum mark.
Under no circumstances add engine oil.
I own an 997-2 and the engine must be warm and idling to obtain
an oil level measurement. Is this different than a 997-1?

I have 2010 C2. Ipod iterface works well with ipod touch or iphone but has trouble with older ipod classic. I think its a softwear compatabilty issue with older ipods

I knew there was a reason I opted for a PDK. -)

After ~30 seconds after startup I get a check coolant message and the guage pegs to max.
The message goes away after a short time and gauge shows normal @ 175º.
Coolant resevoir is full.
I suspect the sender. Is this for the dealer or a simple replacement?
Where is the sender located? I am not too mechanically inclined.

Thanks for your help,

I got a call from my local Porsche dealer advising
me to bring in my car as they wanted to check the
part number on the High Pressure? fuel pump.
They checked it and replaced the part. Evidently
there were complaints of hard starting on early
2009 cars. The part was updated somewhere
during the model year.
Hard starting was not an issue for me, although
the car seems to start super fast now.

......also automatic door locking when underway.

FWIW the Mod4Cars device chirps three times if something is amiss
Disclaimer: I'm not associated with Mod4Cars.
-
My '09 C4S does not make a "chirp" when I lock or unlock the doors using the electronic key fob. Is there a way to get the car to make a "chirp" when I lock/unlock the doors?
I have the Durametric Professional Cable that allows one to make changes to the coding in the various modules of the DME(Onboard Computer). We have discussed this issue in other forums and as far as I know there is no way to alter the coding in the "alarm" module to make the car "chirp".
I think 09 newer 997-2 can be programmed differently with a PIWIS 2 tester.Best check with the dealer that has a PIWIS 2.
If you take it to a dealer and he changes the various modules with the Porsche Tester to make it "chirp", please give the forum a "heads up" as to what changes he made and to what modules.
I had a 09 Cayman S and now a 2012 Carrera S and can't make the change. Maybe the Durametric Beta 6 SW does not "see this Coding".
Mods4Cars http://www.mods4cars.com has a module that will beep twice when locking and once when unlocking plus a number of other things.
Fairly easy install or any auto stereo shop can do it. I have it and it works for me, Works on all 997.2 models.
Perhaps a bit pricey at $300.
Hope this helps.

Hi
I'm a Mac guy and Safari 5.0.5 more than occasionally crashes
with Renntech's website. Safari has been very stable with
other websites I visit.
Have any of you experienced this? Any thoughts or solutions.

Being a totally illogical male I would say trade up to the new one. I just did that recently with an 06 S Carrera. I had it for 11 months. I loved it. Then I drove a Turbo and had to have it.. Made no sense financially but I didn't care. I have never looked back since I made that trade and the Turbo is a dream...
Since you are not totally happy with the Triptronic in the 05 (and you never will be) I say get the new one with the PDK or 6 speed. Make sure you drive a couple of each variant first though... You won't regret it...:clapping:
Good luck!
Phillip
Thank you for commenting. I will go forward and try and find an automobile without compromise.
All I need is the fortitude to pull the trigger.
You did teach me a valuable lesson: Do not drive a Turbo while being in the 'in heat' mode.
Thanks and have a great holiday.

Season's Greetings
I purchased a 2005 basic 997 C2 in August of 2008 with approx 42k miles. This is a CPO car.
It has a Tiptronic S Transmission which I hate. It is well equipped with high end Bose and
Bi-Xenon headlamps and other goodies.
I currently have 55k miles on the car and will be due for a 60k service before August.
I would have to buy a third party warranty and probably a set of tires relatively soon.
I have never had any issues with the car. No IMS/RMS problems. I like the car
but not the color (Seal Grey) or the transmission.
So I'm pondering trading up to an 2009 basic or 'S' C2 with PDK and a nav unit.
I will have time before August to find a car I want.
So my question is should I invest $6k for service/warranty/tires etc or should I
go ahead and invest in a 997.2 that I want with a long warranty etc.
Basically I would be buying two or three years ahead of time.
I'm not sure if this makes sense when I have a perfectly good car that I can live with.
I'll be paying a big premium for a marginally better ride.
What would you do?
-
10-40? Porsche recommends 0-40 or 5-40.
-
I had the same experience with Chevron pumps. I tried Valero (across the street and cheaper) and haven't
had a short fill since. Coincidence? Who knows.
-
It's pretty hard to establish a strong relationship with a dealer when you only see them once or twice a year. After all, these cars are bullet proof, aren't they?
