I swapped out clears for orange headlights w/o a problem, less than 1/2 hour. There is an electrical box strapped to the rear of the orange lights. The lights were yellowish, not blue as are the clears. I don't know what the boxes are for. Halogen, Litronic or what. Is it worth pursuing as I don't know what I'm getting into. I don't do much night driving, mostly freeway and city streets.
As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks Loren, the panel I saw is the same as yours. BTW the dealer was asking $24,950. High mileage (90+k) but visually looked good. It appears prices are continuing downwards, especially 99's.

Out of curiosity I stopped by a used car dealer who had a 99 C2 on the lot. The car looked pretty good but what caught my attention was the absence of door speakers. The door panels looked good with well finished map/stuff containers.
I have never seen a 996 w/o door speakers and was wondering if this was a factory (non) option. There was an after market radio installed.

smoked mine
Looks good. Did you do anything with the turn signal bulbs? How do they show up? Degree of dificulty installing film?
Thanks for your input.

The amber on the headlight cover is solid amber plastic and you cannot remove it.
Has anyone tried applying smoked grey film to the amber plastic. Would it improve appearance on an Artic Silver car and would the turn signal be visible?
Trying to find alternative to replacing expensive headlights.

Pop out 2-4 of the cd holder trays and then grab them and pull.
The new storage bin just snaps in also. About a 30 second job :D
Where/how does one get a storage bin? Also, is the procedure the same for removing
the cassette holder trays?

Leave a storage bin open or change-out your OEM radio! :)
Mystery solved. I was wondering why people were asking about beeping. Mine always beeped, but now I realize that was due to the third party radio that was installed when I bought the car.
Bolobar, I think you can fix this with a (get ready for this!!!!!)..............

Send ToolPants a PM for advice.
I think this was meant for the Timbo, the OP.

I was stopped by a San Mateo Co. deputy sheriff on I-280 and he told me that the raised spoiler was a cop magnet. He didn't write me.
I pulled the spoiler fuse and now the warning light comes on at 75mph and won't go away until I turn the ignition off.
I did a search but didn't see how to specifically remove light bulbs. I'm not too mechanically gifted. Could someone give me some instructions. Also, the Low Fuel light doesn't come on at start-up. Is the spoiler light the same as the low fuel light?
Is there some other way to disable the spoiler besides pulling the fuse?
Thanks

I would like to remove the spare tire from my 99 C2 coupe for additional storage?
How do you remove the bolt that holds the spare to the frame?
TIA

I have a problem with a 99 C2 Tip. On occasion the car won't start. The Park indicator is okay. I thought it might be related to steering wheel lock like other cars. I twisted the steering wheel, feeling no resistance, and the car started.
This has happened about four times in the last month (daily driver). Frustrating and can be embarrassing.
Suggestions and/or solutions appreciated.

The engine going is my main concern as mentioned before. I can't find any companies that will warranty a porsche with over 30k miles on it.
Did you try a Porsche dealer? My local dealer offered (tried to sell) me a policy for about $3000. when I took the car in for a 60k service. I have 58k on the car.

The OBC lighting on my new (for me) 99 966 C2 are a pale blue-gray which are virtually unreadable in the daytime.
My other had orange illumination which was fine.

There is nothing to indicate oil leakage.
I've come to the conclusion that it is brake/tire dust per Loren's
post. There is a lot of wax on the bumper.
Thanks to all for your responses.
-
I've had the car a short time. The seller had the oil changed 'a few months ago.' The oil quantity gauge was two notches down when I got it and it hasn't moved.
-
Are you sure it is oily and no just brake dust and tire dust?
Any oil on the bottom side of the engine?
It feels oily on my fingers compared to the front bumper. No oil on bottom of engine, dry as a bone.

Hi
I'm a newbie with a new (for me) 99 C2 coupe. The car is strong and runs great with 72k miles. The last service history I have is a 60k service.
I have noticed that a black oily film accumulates on the rear bumper, probably above the exhausts. Not heavy and wipes off easily. Not too noticeable. The engine compartment shows no signs of oil and there are no leaks, at least the garage floor is clean.
Is this a cause for concern?

Hi Loren
I recently purchased a 99 996 C2 coupe, arctic silver/black. Love the car.
Reading this forum and other sources I get a lot of confusing answers so I thought I would ask you:
What do you use for motor oil?
What tire pressure do you use?
I have Michelins w/18" wheels. The car has 72k miles and is used mostly for city and freeway driving.
Thank you for your insight and taking time to respond.

I lost my keys... <_<
The dealership should be able to cut a new key given the VIN, right?
How much is this gonna set me back?
I recently was quoted $175 for the remote and $150 to program it from a dealer. A blank is about $40. I passed.

I purchased a 99 C2 coupe with 72k mileage. The oil has been changed recently but I'm not sure what was used (please don't ask why). Is it okay to add Mobil 1 when necessary or something else? What wt for SF bay area? Also, where do I find archives for this list?

I recently bought an Arctic Silver 1999 966 C2 coupe and, so far, no buyers remorse. :) I'm going to need tires in the next few months. The car has 18" wheels and currently running Michelin Sports.
I am far more interested in ride and quietness rather than performance. This is mostly a city car.
Your thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, why didn't I think of that. :o :)

99 C2 coupe
I discovered today that:
1. Right HL low beam not working.
2. When engage high beam right head light high works.
3. Left high beam remains on low beam.
I don't have a clue why. Do you think that replacing the right unit will
solve the left sides problem (hopefully)?
Is changing head light major surgery?
Thanks
