  1. I swapped out clears for orange headlights w/o a problem, less than 1/2 hour. There is an electrical box strapped to the rear of the orange lights. The lights were yellowish, not blue as are the clears. I don't know what the boxes are for. Halogen, Litronic or what. Is it worth pursuing as I don't know what I'm getting into. I don't do much night driving, mostly freeway and city streets.

As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  2. Out of curiosity I stopped by a used car dealer who had a 99 C2 on the lot. The car looked pretty good but what caught my attention was the absence of door speakers. The door panels looked good with well finished map/stuff containers.

I have never seen a 996 w/o door speakers and was wondering if this was a factory (non) option. There was an after market radio installed.

  3. Leave a storage bin open or change-out your OEM radio! :)

Mystery solved. I was wondering why people were asking about beeping. Mine always beeped, but now I realize that was due to the third party radio that was installed when I bought the car.

Bolobar, I think you can fix this with a (get ready for this!!!!!)..............

I think this was meant for the Timbo, the OP.

  4. I was stopped by a San Mateo Co. deputy sheriff on I-280 and he told me that the raised spoiler was a cop magnet. He didn't write me.

I pulled the spoiler fuse and now the warning light comes on at 75mph and won't go away until I turn the ignition off.

I did a search but didn't see how to specifically remove light bulbs. I'm not too mechanically gifted. Could someone give me some instructions. Also, the Low Fuel light doesn't come on at start-up. Is the spoiler light the same as the low fuel light?

Is there some other way to disable the spoiler besides pulling the fuse?

    Thanks

  5. I have a similar problem with a 99 C2 Tip. On occasion the car won't start. The Park indicator is okay. I thought it might be related to steering wheel lock like other cars. I twisted the steering wheel, feeling no resistance, and the car started.

This has happened about four times in the last month (daily driver). Frustrating and can be embarrassing.

    Suggestions and/or solutions appreciated.

  6. Hi

I'm a newbie with a new (for me) 99 C2 coupe. The car is strong and runs great with 72k miles. The last service history I have is a 60k service.

I have noticed that a black oily film accumulates on the rear bumper, probably above the exhausts. Not heavy and wipes off easily. Not too noticeable. The engine compartment shows no signs of oil and there are no leaks, at least the garage floor is clean.

Is this a cause for concern?

  7. Hi Loren

    I recently purchased a 99 996 C2 coupe, arctic silver/black. Love the car.

Reading this forum and other sources I get a lot of confusing answers so I thought I would ask you:

What do you use for motor oil?

What tire pressure do you use?

I have Michelins w/18" wheels. The car has 72k miles and is used mostly for city and freeway driving.

Thank you for your insight and taking time to respond.
