  1. If you're talking about the larger brushed aluminum (or wood) strips they are just clipped on and need to be pryed off gently. I have brushed aluminum and had to take the passenger side one off to remove the glovebox recently. It came off easy. I would guess wood strips would be more delicate in that you wouldn't want to crack it.
  2. Excellent going to order a mobridge unit now from cartronics. I see your pictures of the installation too - thanks for posting those for everyone.
  3. So you plug in your sirius receiver through the mobridge (I take it that mobridge has some kind of aux input)? Thinking of getting a ipod/bluetooth mobridge and it would be nice to link an existing sirius head unit directly to PCM versus FM modulation.
  4. Really simple and there is instructions in the owners manual. Little tool in the luggage compartment that you use. Once you find the tool, open the hood, look for the little plastic circle covers behind the headlamp assembly (they'll have a picture of a headlamp on them), pop them off, stick the tool in, turn it. Whole headlamp pops right out. Take the headlamp assembly out, open the back, replace the bulb. Simple as pie.
  5. Did you feel/smell it to see if it was water or coolant (to the best you can tell)? My 06 leaks a lot of water (its watery) from the same spot your picture shows and I assumed it was AC condensation too but I live in a fairly cold climate and it seems weird. Mine will actually be dripping water 8 hours after I turn it off (like after work). Hmmm maybe it's a first sign of coolant pipes. Post an update if you find out more.
  6. If it's minor I wouldn't waste any more time on it. Unfortunately, you've described one of the many Cayenne quirks. I've had two, and 04 and now an 06, and they both do it. I even had the driveshaft in the 04 replaced bc the bearing was shot and it still did it afterwords. If it becomes more serious, then you might want to take it in or look into any potential problems.
  7. By the way, the quote above is a perfect/dead-on description of a bad cardan shaft. Part retails for $720 plus 2 hours labor. Thank VW for the quality part.
  8. Above 45 mph? Amazing how consistent these things are (at least when they fail). Unfortunately there really is no good way to check the driveshaft (the odds are in your favor that you are having a center bearing failure). I had the exact same symptoms on an 04 CS last year and a driveshaft replacement did the trick. Interestingly, two dealers told me the old shaft looked fine (b/c you can't really check it - some develop play as they get really bad). Hope you have extended warranty - likely $1,000 or more (and you'll still be guessing that is what it is).
  9. +1 Those VW driveshaft center bearings are crap. Probably just too much for it.
  10. Very simple and is detailed in the owners manual. There is a tool in the rear compartment (by the subwoofer or spare tire) that will help you easily remove the entire headlamp assembly. Once you have the headlight out, you can open it up and access all the bulbs. Again, entire process is very easy - you'll see.
  11. There's a TSB on #2: "Cayenne Hard Shifting in Range of 1 to 2" or something like that which you can see if you are a member. Mine does that too. They have to replace the TCU and reprogram/update some program. The part cost alone is $700 USD per a local dealer. Or you could just leave it.
  12. I don't think these statements are necessarily true. My 04 CS shifts into D6 at exactly 40mph with PSM off (same as when on). Unless there was some revision to the control software with newer production dates/model years. I did take a picture to show this. With PSM off, the only difference I noted was a slightly higher rev before switching from 2-3.
  13. I couldnt find at any auto parts store....its a W5W bulb. Autozone said they couldnt even order it. Got it from the local Porsche dealer for under $5 each. Part # N 017 753 8; Description "W5W XENON-BLUE LONGLIFE" I would just get two and replace both sides while you're at it.
  14. Wow are you right about the ride quality on the 20's. I test drove an 05 CS certified last night with 20" sport design rims and standard suspension and that thing was the worst riding vehicle I have ever been in. I actually thought some interior pieces, which were rattling heavily from the potholes, might fall off from the rough ride (I am in WI and our roads are almost nonexistant from govt neglect and harsh winters). While visually 20's are appealing the 18" ride is a million times better on rough roads!! guess you dont have air ride? me neither, and since I've tested, drive, owned, all those 3 measures (besides 17" which doesnt work for the v8 peppers) 18", 19" and 20" - I can tell that you will feel the differences in ride quality with bigger wheels, as you will earn better handling but more bumppy ride. So, dont know how are the roads on your area, but if you have good ones, you can go for 19", also 20". if the roads are bad, stay with 18". as for the visual effect you might consider 20" sport tehno. also, you DONT NEED to: - use spacers at all - these OEM wheels will clear your calipers by far - to adjust your speedo; the overall diameter is almost the same, Tire - 235/65R17 -- Speedometer Difference: 0.000% -- Actual Speed: 60.0 mph Tire 1 - 255/55R18 -- Speedometer Difference: 0.069% too slow -- Speedometer1: 59.9 mph Tire 2 - 275/45R19 -- Speedometer Difference: 0.976% too fast -- Speedometer2: 60.5 mph Tire 3 - 275/40R20 -- Speedometer Difference: 1.255% too fast -- Speedometer1: 60.7 mph good luck, and dont forget to post pictures when is done.
  15. The turbo rim is 18" not 19". Did you mean the design rim? As a contributing member you can see the approved wheel TSB. The 18's ride good and are probably the most common cayenne rim overall. I think you can adjust the speedometer in the settings menu in the dash (I've never done this but thought I read it somewhere on here).
  16. Possibly just loose/bad connection. The owners manual will show you how to very easily remove the entire headlight assembly. The tool to remove it is in the trunk by the subwoofer. Once the assembly is out, it's pretty straightforward. Again, refer to the manual. Simple 10 min task.
  17. Most likely cardan shaft. It's impossible to even have dealer inspect it. I had two dealers tell me it looked fine (no play, etc). Finally bit the bullet and had replaced for $920USD. No more vibration/humming/shaking. Mine did as described...humm/vibrate (would actually shake the whole vehicle) but only between 45-60mph. Some Cayennes have had problems with the universal joints/cardan shafts - especially the 2003 and 2004 models. I'm not sure if this is what you are experiencing, but it could be. Do you know if this issue has been previously addressed on your Cayenne? I also have this problem on my cayenne V6, its so bad it makes my head hurt if I don't have the stereo on. Anyone know more about what could cause this? mine is a 2004, done 97.000km (60.000Miles) regards
  18. Twice recently when the 04 CS is cold (both times when leaving work after it sat all day) it won't move. I will start it and put it in gear and nothing. If I give it a little gas, it is like something engages and the whole car jerks forward (or reverse depending). No sounds or clunks, just annoying. Usually I let the car warm up a bit but you know sometimes you just wanna get going :). Transmissions shifts smooth otherwise once warmed up (it does have the hard 1-2 shifts when cold but the new control unit is $$). Anyone else have any experiences with this? Thought I read a similar thread once but now cant find it.
  19. I've had the check cornering lamp warning (! gotta love it) on too and the cornering and "side light" doesn't work because the side light (underneath the headlight) is burnt out. Ironically, it's incredibly easy to take out the headlamp assembly and replace. The hard part is finding the stupid little W5W bulb. No major automotive store I can find carries it and I've been told by some they can't even order them. Hmmmm...I'm sure the dealer has them though for $20 a piece.
  20. Maybe there's something wrong with your PSM. Mine has a light that comes on when it starts to slide (i wasn't staring at the dash but looked like a triangle with a circle/arrow around it) and it came on plenty of times today. I tried multiple times to get the rear end to kick out this morning in inches of slush and snow and couldn't (without flooring it and cutting the wheel ridiculously). Or maybe there's some difference with the turbo model. I'm not even running winter tires...
  21. My CS is superb in the snow with 18" wheels and new Conti all seasons. I can't get it to do anything funny with the PSM on. I would guess your wheel/tire combination is causing the poor performance. Good luck...12" of white stuff is predicted where I am tomorrow.
  22. Under the glovebox...If I remember correctly, it was one screw to remove the cover under the glove box and then two little ones holding the filter in. It's pretty obvious where the filter is once you remove the main cover. Don't remember seeing any pictures on here but its only about a 5 min job. Good luck
  23. My 04 CS without nav has the compass (same as in your pic). If you look at the order guides available on this website, they were only an $80 option. And yes, there is a recalibration selection in the menu, not that I've ever used it. I am not sure having a compass requires a GPS antenna.
