  1. According to the Bently's D3 should be a 30 amp fuse that powers the convertable top motor. D4 should be empty depending on year. B6 is for the top module, but also powers the windows and turn signals. Relays 14 and 15 in the main relay panel also send power to the top. Please post what year Boxster and I'll see if I get more specific. Also, you might post where you are at, some of us are electrical types, maybe someone is close to you. Chuck
  2. As you look at the cluster, there is a screw on the right behind the microphone, and another behind the emergency flasher switch. It's easy to remove these two screws, then lift the entire cluster/surround straight up. You'll se that there are several "pegs" that fit into holes with sleeves in them. Not sure if the sleves are replacable, but i'd try a layer of heat shink or tape around the pegs, then re-install and try it. You should also see any wear marks where the noise is coming from.
  3. Not on a P-car, but I had problems with a generic O2 sensor on a Mercedes C230. Yes, you can splice it in, and it will prob work, but the computer in the benz would get intermitant codes, and would sometimes set the check engine light, sometimes it wouldn't. I drove it for a month or so, and would go a week without then would set a code. When I bought the Bosch that was the right replacement, I never had another issue. Shop around and see if you can find the sensors online, check with "parts at dealer cost" link at the top of the page. I had a great experience with them on my turn signal switch change. Advance Auto parts list the Bosch sensor for an 03 S for $162 each, and the generic for $92 each. Free shipping on orders over $75.
  4. So this weekend I washed the Boxster, cleaned the windows, and after drying in the sun all Sat afternoon, I decided to treat the top on Sunday afternoon. I bought a can of the treatment at the Porsche dealer last month when I had the OBC and cruise activated. I read the label, masked off the paint work, and went after it, two thin coats overall and another coat or two on the seems. I had one door of my 2 car garage open, but spraying about half of the can in the garage almost fumigated me. Then today, I got in the car, after it sat closed up in the garage since Sunday, and the odor inside the car was almost enought to make you gag. What is in this stuff? The dealer swore by it, but I'd like to find something closer, since the dealer is an hour away in Columbia. The top does look really nice, we'll see haw it does next rain with the water drop test. Thanks, Chuck
  5. Not sure where you are located, or how far the closest dealer is, but that would be the first option. I'm sure there is a part number on the old switch, but if there are two part numbers that might not be correct either. I'm sure a call to sunset could get one on the way quickly. I checked a website "e German Parts" that has an online catalog. It lists two parts, but one is for the parking brake, one is the pedal, and it says fits with or without cruise control. And a price of about 13 bucks. Advance lists one switch, so does worldpac.
  6. Maybe the car was homesick and just wanted to go home? How old is the gas in the car, or how long has it been since you filled up? Is it in a heated garage? Sitting outside? My initial guess would be you have gotten some water in the fuel tank, by condensation or from the last fill up. My guess is that there wasn't alot, but enough to get sucked up and burned, which explaines the rough running that cleared up. Any OBD reader should be able to check your engine codes, have them read then update the post, I'm sure someone can give you a good isea of where to go then. If all you get is misfire codes, clear them and see if they come back.
  7. Thanks to all you who started this post and added all of the "what I learned" things. I just did a 4 stalk install on my 2003 Boxster S. I ordered the parts from Sunset Imports 800-346-0182 total was $230.52 including all of the pieces listed above. My dealer McDaniel's Porsche in Columbia SC charged me $60 to activate the OBC and cruise. I too had printed out many pages, and the dealer tech intially said he couldn't change it, until the cluster was re-coded. So, $290.52 later I have OBC and Cruise on my Boxster. What's next? Chuck
  8. I've read the threads on installing cruise control on a drive-by-wire boxster and got all excited. Now I noticed that there is no cruise control icon on my speedometer. I assume that it's only there to let yo know that the cruise is turned on, but without it, can I still install the 4 stalk switch and have it activated? It's a 2003 Boxster S, US Spec, 6 speed. I am constantly amaized at how much information is on this website. Thanks to all of you who have contributed and posted.
  9. Just bought an 03 S, and wasted many work hours reading the info here. Mine is I guess what you'd call a base S, no cruise control, no OBC, single cd player/radio, no changer. I've printed out many threads on the OBC and cruise install, and plan to tackle that in a week or so, but: Are these cars pre wired for a cd changer? I can see in the front trunk whaere the changer mounts, and have seen new and used changers on eBay, but none of them seem to have any changer harness with them. From the parts pages, I need a CDC4 changer, just need to know how the wire it. I looked under the cover next to the battery, is it hid behind carpeting somewhere? Thanks Folks, Chuck
