  1. I paid $90 four years ago on eBay but I can't remember the manufacturer. That was for all four pedals made for the Boxster. They're aluminum with raised metal bosses around the holes which really give a good bite on your soles. I never tried the rubber knobs but I can't see them giving as much traction. Couldn't be happier with them and I couldn't justify the $300 for Rennlines or Gemballas.
  2. If I could make one more suggestion..... slow down. It's easy to get the fever but you'd be well served by taking your time. Backing away from this is a good start. Kudos.
  3. Those are some pretty expensive repairs there. If you could live with the cosmetic issues then it's not so bad but considering the prices on eBay recently, and the work you'd need to put in to it, I'd think you could do better.
  4. Has anyone taken their Boxster down the R Gruppe road? I know European Car spent a couple years tricking out a '97 they called the Boxster R but it didn't hold true to the R formula. I'm just interested in seeing any examples of the breed.
  5. If it weren't for heated seats, I would have spent a lot less time behind the wheel top down as the misses just wouldn't be comfortable. And when she's not comfortable, she's not happy. And when she's not happy......
  6. Sounds like money is not an issue so I'd suggest the 'S' as some of the work is already done for you.
  7. I'm getting ready to do the same mod and have an 01 as well, so I wanted to get the glossy targa switch, except i can only find a part number for the mat finish. Did you get the gloss switch and if so, what was the p/n?
  8. For what it's worth, I remember reading that when the Germans were told that US cars needed cup holders they were appalled. Seems their philosophy is driving is something you do for the sake of driving. That you would distract yourself with eating & drinking was foolish. It shows in their lack of effort regarding cup holder design.
  9. Good suggestions. I have a can of Super Blue Racing brake fluid that's been around for about 4 years. Is it okay to use in the Boxster and is it okay after 4 years? How about quantity necessary to flush the system?
  10. Has anyone done the stainless steel brake line replacement and if so, is there anything to look out for? Seems easy on the face of it but that's usually when I screw something up.
  11. 30 years ago, as a teenager, I worked at a gas station in CT. The rule then and now was cars had to be turned off during refueling. This one old guy in a Pontiac would come in on occasion and when you finished pumping his gas (filler behind the license plate), he would restart the car. It never failed, that beast of a car would backfire. It would get your attention, particularlly at night. So here's all these just-dispensed fuel vapors, hanging out by the rear of the car, when this things blats out a tongue of flame. So I guess it's a matter of perspective. Now static charges around the pump, that scares me.
  12. Look where He's from. We'll just chalk it up to natuaral selection. Vacuum system not withstanding, exactly what can happen refueling a running Boxster that has you so scared?
  13. I prefer to think of it as the "F1" method. But seriously, I've been doing that since I started driving and will continue, except for the Boxster. Thx...
  14. About 10-15 seconds after I start refueling, my 01S engine stumbles. It lasts a few seconds and then catches without stalling. Any ideas?
  15. Cease: The PS2s you bought, they aren't Porsche OEM 'N' spec are they? Not that I care too much but if I had my druthers, and all else being equal, I buy 'N' spec first. The only spec PS tire I could find at Tirerack was Pilot Sport Ribbed.
  16. Bruce Anderson, the American dean of all things Porsche Technical, has been asked numerous times in his 40+ years dealing with the breed 'which year car should I buy?' His answer is always the same - the newest you can afford. Coming from a guy who repairs them for a living, that's pretty telling.
  17. Clubhead, you there? Fletcher had some good questions so I thought I'd give it a bump.
  18. Anyone have experience installing a 4 or 5-point seat belt in their car? If so, what components and technique did you use?
  19. I have an original, ugly, orange set of taillights in great condition that I don't need. $75 for the pair. Let me know. -Don
  20. I have the little velcro patches on the bottom but they don't stick to the carpet at all. The factory matts are just kind of...floppy looking if you ask me. I really hate floor matts anyway but I guess they are a necessary evil. I would like some crisp low profile looking matts that fit if they exist. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The little velcro patches need to match up with 4 plastic 'hook' disks mounted into the rug. These disks are about 3" in diameter with a plastic screw underneath. Just screw them into the rug in an area underneath the velcro disks on your mats. With this setup you won't have any more problems.
  21. Is there any chance of an electrcal problem if you were to switch on the foglights?
  22. The car was optioned with the exhaust and there is no on/off switch. TP, if the bypass valves are vacuum actuated then wouldn't disconnecting them leave them closed? The valves are located in the middle of the bypass pipes that circumvent the exhaust, so I'm assuming here that they're opened when the electrical relay activates and allows vacuum to the them . Also, if they energize at as little as 27-42 mph, why bother having the bypass at all? Not trying to pick a fight (you've probably forgotten more about the breed than I know), just trying to clarify what I should try.
  23. I have a 2001 ‘S’ with the Tequipment Sport Exhaust. The car sounds great from about 4500 rpm on up. I believe this has more to do with the exhaust’s bypass valves than with the engine coming on cam. I’d like to get this great Porsche sound earlier in the rev range without buying a new exhaust system. I don’t know how the bypass valves are actuated: mechanically or electronically. Has anyone ever modified the valves to get them to actuate earlier in the rev range? Any ideas out there? Thanks…
