  1. I also have 2002 C4 with PCM1 that works fine, but seems really dated. I've been hesitant to rip it out because I have the earlier Fiber wired BOSE hi-end system - whch still seems to work pretty well. I really just want to change the head unit and replace the CD changer with an iPod interface. What is the kit from Euromotorsports? I'm looking for an integration 2DIN Nav/Radio/iPod system too. Any help is appreciated.
  2. Yes, you will need the GT3 parts with the shims. They and increased camber will improve handling but make tire wear worse. If you are replacing the rear standard 996 C4 lower control arms with 996 GT3 control arms, can you compensate for lots of negative camber that an X74 kit delivers with the 30MM decrease in ride height? Im thinking of installing a set of 996 GT3 lower control arms so I quit eating rear tires every 5 - 7K miles. The outsides are fine, but the insides are down to the cords.... If I do change the lower control arm, would I also have to go to an adjustable rear toe control arm too? or the upper adjustable arms? (I'm not taking the car racing, just doing some spirited driving around town, so I really do not want a fully adjustable, expensive setup.) Thanks, Paul
  3. Have you found that your car eats rear tires really quickly? I also have a C4 (Cab) with the X74 suspension. I love the handling and simplicity compared to other coilover kits. I just went through another set of rear tires in about 7K miles and my mechanic recommended that I look at finding a cure for the lack of caster setting. I am all the way out and still have about 2 degrees of negative camber. I spoke to the guys at TRG (The Racer Group) and they recommended swapping out my rear lower control arms with a set of GT3 arms that are adjustable. They are not cheap, so I am looking for someone who has done this before I start experimenting. I wonder if I can get add positive camber to end up with about 1 degree for street use and 2.0 or so for track days. If I change to the GT3 Lower Control arms, do I also have to go with adjustable uppers and the adjustable Tow Control arm too? Now we are getting expensive.... Thanks for any tips or tricks.... Paul
  4. Does anyone know when the latest US update to the PCM1 2001.1 map content CD was created? I have a MY2002 C4 Cab. I purchased a new CD from Navteq in early 2005. Its 4 years old and needs an update. I called Navteq today, and they told me exactly what Loren said they would say - that they no longer handle these CD's for Porsche and that I should call Porsche. What is the latest US California/Oregon CD update that works with PCM1?
  5. This fits with what Loren said. The turbo does not have the Rear Brake Light indentation on the rear upper boby panel. Its built into the wing or decklid, right? So the decklid is longer/taller/ than the C4/C4S decklid. Is that what you meant Loren?
  6. folks, My 2002 C4 Cab came with nearly everything I wanted except for heated seats. I did some research on installing new seats from a Turbo, but decided to save about $2500 and go with aftermarket seat heaters from www.heaterseats.com. I received the seat heaters, wiring harnesses, and instructions, then purchased a set of Porsche seat heater buttons and new Carbon Fiber "bat wing" to replace the stock button holder in front of the shifter. I plan to do the install next week and needed a bit of help on the electrical side. Does anyone have info on the stock Porsche seat heater switch wiring? I just need to know which of the 6 contacts is ground, lights, and heat level 1, 2 and 3. I was planning to connect the + side of the heater wiring to the electric seat control. Anyone see a problem with that? (too much draw, etc.) Or would it make more sense to go straight to the fuse panel? Any help is appreciated. I'll take photos and document the job for anyone else that would like a warm seat. Thanks, Paul
  7. I just went through this process with my (new) 2002 C4 Cab. It has Michelin Pilot Sport N1 tires. I tried to order just 2 rears from Tirerack.com. They had an OK price of $299 each tire plus shipping, no sales tax. After placing the order, a customer service rep called to ask if I was with a Porsche dealership. They said that the Michelin Pilot Sport was a limited supply tire and could only be sold to Porsche dealers or with their permission. I then contacted 2 dealers - Sunset Imports in Oregon - home of the "Parts at Cost program for us", and my local dealer in Walnut Creek, Ca. Both parts/service centers guys said they had to order the tires for me. Sunset wanted $350 + shipping, the other dealer wanted $396+ $125 for install - of 2 tires. I thought $7-800 for 2 rears was way too high, and I really did not want the Michelin Sports as I heard they are noisier than most tires and other tires (like Bridgestone Potenza S-03 and new Michelin Pilot Sport II) work better - wet and dry. This is where it got interesting. The local dealer said I had only a few choices for "Porsche-approved" tire fitments. The "N" rating after the tire indicated that the tires were approved for certain Porsche models and the tires were matched to work together. He said as long as the tires were N rated, I would be fine. So recommended either Pirelli P Zeros, Continental SportContact or Bridgestone S-02A tires. He said that the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 is another great choice, but it is not Porsche approved yet. He said the Pirelli's and Continentals will last a long time, but don't work too well, and the S-02A is older tech and will wear out really fast. The S-03 will also grip very well but not last very long. He then said that the new Michelin Pilot Sport II is the best new tire on the sports car market and I should consider going that way. It is not available yet in the 285-30-18 size yet, so I would have to run Turbo/C4S sized 295-30-18 rears. With that, he recommended using Porsche 5mm spacers for the fronts to balance the handling. The price for the larger Pilot Sport II was bigger than just the $346 per tire that Tirerack charged.... it required replacing all 4 tires. So I called Tirerack back and explained the dilemma. Their tech was very familiar with the 911 C4 Cab and said he did not like the recommendation above for a couple reasons. He said that he could guarantee that the tread and manufacture of the new Pilot Sport II would match between the front, 225-40 to the rear 295-30. He felt more comfortable selling me something that he knows will work and I would be happy with. He said that many owners switch to the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 after the original Michelin or Continental tires wear out. My preference would have been to spend the money and run the new Michelin Pilot Sport II, but without knowing that the front and rear tires were matched, I did not feel comfortable spending $1100 and having problems down the road. I used the S-03's on my 2000 M5 and really liked the look and feel of the tire. It was much quieter than the original Michelin's that came on the car. I decided to go with what I knew - at a better price - and purchased 4 S-03's for the car. "Out the door" from Tirerack's Nevada warehouse to me in Northern Cal for $997. That's about what I would have paid WC Porsche for just the rears. Now I have to find someone to install them. But I think I will wait until my new X74 suspension shows up from Gert at Carnewal. Hope this gives some insight and helps you decide. Thanks, Paul
  8. On Monday, my 2002 C4 Cab ran over a semi-truck tire tread that was rolling down the lane on the freeway. When I pulled off to inspect the damage, I found that it scaped from the hood emblem all the way down and around the stock front bumper cover and spoiler. There were no cracks or deep scratches, but enough to require a repaint of the hood and front covers. I'm considering upgrading the front bumper cover/spoiler to either the Aerokit Cup, GT3 or Turbo-style front cover and spoilers. I like the Turbo-look the most, but wonder if that would 'lower' the value of my car. I have price inquiries in with Sunset Porsche parts-at-cost and already received a quote of about $1200 for a repaint from a local body shop that painted and installed my aerokit side skirts. Can some members offer suggestions or experiences in upgrading their front ends? Is the Aerokit the easiest factory upgrade path - especially since it matches my side skirts? Is the Turbo/C4S front end just a bolt on or does it require other mods due to the larger radiator opens, fender changes, etc.? Are extra mods required to fit a GT3 front end and spoiler to the car? Thanks in advance for the help.
  9. Just wondering how the install of the GT3 Front Bumper and chin spoiler went? I have a 2002 C4 Cab, that just had some scratches across the bumper cover and hood from a rolling tire-retread on the freeway. I'm considering changing the bumper cover to either the Aerokit, Turbo, or GT3 front end. Any suggestions or comments after doing your conversion?
