  1. I assume you fixed the problem. What was the fix?
  2. This is the photo I took yesterday of the connector using a mirror for a look at the back side. How do I disconnect it? http://www.flickr.com/photos/30713060@N05/...364281/sizes/l/
  3. CEL does light up when I turn the ignition on so I know at least the bulb is good. The MAF is what I am thinking. I cannot figure out how to disconnect the sensor connector. I don't want to brake it. Is there a tab or something that needs to be pulled back or something?
  4. 2002 Boxster S / Tiptronic won't rev above 3000 RPM: I was unable to remove the MAF Sensor connector so I simply removed the whole thing and cleaned it with the CRC MAF Sensor cleaner. The sensor looked clean already btw. Even with the MAF sensor off I could not figure out how to safely remove it. After cleaning it and putting it back, no change at the 3K range. What bugs me the most is that I don't see the CEL even blink! Engine idles fine and is running well up to 3000 RPM. Once at 3K, the engine cuts stutters till I back off the throttle. Any ideas?
  5. Sooooo... still unable to remove the MAF Sensor connector I simply removed the whole thing and cleaned it with the CRC MAF Sensor cleaner. The sensor looked clean already btw. Even with the MAF sensor off I could not figure out how to safely remove it. After cleaning it and putting it back, no change at the 3K range. What bugs me the most is that I don't see the CEL even blink! R. :(
  6. Exact same issue with mine earlier this week. Replaced the MAF and its back to normal. Is there a trick in removing the MAF connector? I cannot seem to budge it. Here is a photo I just took: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30713060@N05/...364281/sizes/l/
  7. The CEL works (at startup) but I've never seen it set...yet. I don't have a tool to check for the codes. What do I buy and where do I get one? Also, I drove the car just now and the engine will not rev past 3000 RPM.
  8. 2002 Boxster S / Tiptronic does not like the cold... This morning my car started normally but went I got to the main street I had almost zero acceleration. The engine sputtered almost continuously until I backed way off the throttle. The engine seemed to only want to idle. I pulled off a side street and pressed the accelerator half way but had barely an increase in acceleration and backfired once till again I got off the throttle. I turned the car around and limped back home but I noticed much improvement as the engine remained at operating temperature. We’ve not had much fall temperatures and only recently have the temperatures dropped in the evenings to the upper 40’s (F). I have noticed only minor engine hesitation in the early AM till today. Also, twice in the last month my car has difficulty starting when the engine is hot. Starts, then stalls but not more than twice. Any ideas where to start? MAF, Fuel Filter, Engine Temp sensor, Throttle Body? I’d appreciate any help with this issue.
  9. I was unable to get to it this weekend but I thank you all for your help on this. I now know what to look for and I will take another look to see if I can find it floating around. R.
  10. 2002 Boxster S: External Temperature Sensor help needed... Does anyone know how the sensor is routed to the bumper location? The previous owner had the bumper repainted and it seems the temperature sensor was not placed back properly. I have to assume the bumper was removed to have the bumper repainted. All I see is a hole and the front grill connection of where the sensor should be. The weather has been warm recently and my display indicated an external "Temperature Sensor Failure"... I was in stop and go (mostly stop) traffic. When I got moving it dropped back to 140 deg F. The external temperature always seems to be hotter than normal. I am wondering if I can trace it back to the front area. I figure the shop must have tied it up somewhere and forgot to put it back where it belongs. I'd like to explore this before I determine that I really need to remove the bumper. Thanks in advance!
  11. I just remembered an additional step I performed. I have a set of tiny files, and I slid it into each set of points and filed them a little. At the time, it really felt like I was doing more damage than good, since I was sort of roughing up two surfaces that looked clean and smooth, and I didn\'t see how it was helping. The only reason I kept going was because I couldn\'t find anything else to change and I knew the switch wouldn\'t be any better if I didn\'t change something. My switch still seems to be working, but I only drive it on weekends so I haven\'t tested it that much (the motorcycle serves as transportation). I works! I took apart the switch once more (what a pain!)... I don\'t have a tiny file but I simply used a tiny screwdriver (#0 flat head). I gently opened and scrapped all contacts twice. One of them must have had an excessive build-up, due to arcing, caused by years of being turned on & off. Below is a photo I took while scraping one of those contacts. Thanks for your help! (Below you will see a small screwdriver between one of the 7 contacts.)
  12. It wasn't easy to open. The switch is crimped closed and I had to use some fairly specialized pliers to un-crimp it. (I own a motorcycle shop, so I've got a lot of tools). Re-crimping it was hard too. I had to use a large socket and a large vice to hold it together while I re-crimped. I'd try un-plugging it and plugging it back in. I'm still thinking the odds are better than 50/50 that I didn't accomplish anything by opening it, and that the real fix was unplugging it and plugging it back in. I did not have the success you had. I managed to take apart the switch and, like yourself, found nothing obviously wrong. I sprayed some contact cleaner inside the switch only as I did not want to remove the lower portion. Everything went back together fine. I used a screwdriver and a light tap of a hammer to help me re-crimp the switch. Unfortunately, no real change. I still have to strike the switch, from the fog light position, to get the lights to turn on and they still do with lesser pressure though. After reading your post, I completely forgot to clean the connector (female) end. I simply scrapped the exterior posts at the switch. I will try this later this eve. Thanks again.
  13. I just verified my problem to be switch related and I just saw you post regarding cleaning the switch itself. What was involved? The dealer tells me $123 for the switch alone. I've nothing to loose by trying to clean it first. Thanks.
