  1. Congrats etwd Is it hard to install the bumperettes? I just did a R/R on the centre console and it was quite a job. It looks great though. Eric and his crew do superb work. Alex
  2. Laura, I mostly use Meguiars, they ship quickly and a lot of their products can be purchased at Pep Boys. For washing if the car is just dusty I just use water, otherwise I use NXT Generation Car Wash: Before a wax job I use the 'Smooth Surface Clay Kit', it makes the metal as smooth as glass! The 'cleaner wax' is easy to use and does a great job: To get rid of small scratches, bird stains, etc. the Scratch X is great: In-between waxing, after a good wash I use the Zaino Z-8 Grand Finale: Stoner Invisible Glass is the BEST thing for glass (many thanks to Loren for the tip ;)) : Raggtopp is highly recommended for the soft top: For the plastic rear window I use Mirror Glaze Cleaner and polish (2 sep. bottles): Besides Meguiars I am a big fan of the Klasse cleaner wax and sealant glaze, They're easy to use and give an excellent shine: They both can be applied by hand, I use the the Porter Cable 7424 for the wax, and hand apply the glaze. Of course everyone has their favorites, these are ones I use and am happy with. Alex
  3. The quote does not cite what the 'better ways' are. I would love to have a garage lift but my one-car garage is quite small and not very tall so it's impractical. I have been using Orient Express's directions and have not had any problems. I ONLY use the engine to lift the car so I can get the rear jackstands on. Alex
  4. peckel, Eric at www.bumperplugs.com also carries a carbon fiber line, $495 with core return, he's a great guy to work with, very fast too. Alex
  5. It looks like #26 is the piece over the instrument cluster that you're asking about, P/N 996 552 025 01. Expensive! In leather about $1,000 according to renntech retail price search. Alex
  6. Magnus, it hurts to see the dash wrinkle.:( Once you get it sorted I highly recommend the genuine Porsche sunshade, it fits perfectly over the windscreen and really protects the dash/interior from sun damage. I use it all the time when I take the car out. It is readily available from your Porsche dealer or OEM supplier, the part # for 996 MY1999-2004 is PNA-505996 and for 987 MY1999-2004 is PNA-505986. All our custom made for each model. Alex
  7. Congrats on your new 911 ;). Rennlist.com has a lot of threads/posts about clear bras. You can give them a try. Best to join in order to use search feature, then just enter 'bra' in the search field in the 996 or 997 forums. Alex
  8. Eddie, sorry I have no idea if my tips would work on a MY2006  The tip may be the same... Alex
  9. I use the Porsche Charge-o-mat II (955 044 900 56), as far as I understand it is a maintainer so it should not 'fry' the battery. It monitors the battery and charges it as needed only.
  10. Lakerholic, I recently did what you are trying to do on my MY2000 996 (so I'm not sure if the 997 works the same way), got the centre console from Eric and all. I have a tip. The tip knob is easy to remove, Loren has instructions here. • The 'locking button' in my car comes off without any tools, put the key in, the handbrake on, ignition in 'instrument setting' and move the shifter to neutral, then you can remove the locking button by pulling towards rear. A small rag may help because the button edge is sharp. To put the knob back on I found it easier just to reverse the steps instead of the DIY directions in the above mentioned post, I just put the knob back on, insert the spring clip and the spring (with the smaller diameter towards the peg). • You do have to remove the batwing to get to the front screw. Remove the side panels first as instructed in the B&M file, then wiggle the batwing out. I did not have to remove anything else in the front. • Do put the seat backs all the way back to remove the console. Post if you have any other questions. Alex
  11. Hi Phillip, I'm glad to hear that you were happy with them, in the pictures it looks really nice. I'll have to check out the other company as well. I'm just itching for a turbo bumper. mine has to be stripped and repainted anyway due to scratches/road rash so it makes for a good excuse to trade up. I read your engine update, it's good you're making progess even if the one you thought you found did not pan out. It's best to get the best one you can of course. Have a good weekend. Alex
  12. Under LINKS you will find a link to a PDF download of the Parts Catalogue (PET) for your car, then you can look at any part and find part numbers: Click here for link Good prices can be found at Sunset Parts, just click the "Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost" link on any renntech page. Alex
  13. Has anyone dealt with NR Automotive in Sherman Oaks, CA? They sell this bumper for a MY99-01 996: Since I have a MY2000 I can't do the Porsche turbo bumper swap (the lights wouldn't work) :( Also, I have the 3rd radiator installed. It looks really good in the pictures, any thoughts? Thanks, Alex
  14. :welcome: Clovis 911 Try this search: +window +drop There are many threads having to do with the window lowering mechanics and what needs to be replaced. Alex
  15. Great looking car! I like that color. My visors were a bit wavy right after, like leather they should regain their original shape later. Mine did anyway. Alex
  16. Here's a pic of the back of the ignition switch, you can clearly see the 'prongs' that Eric is referring to, in my car they point to 12 o'clock. My trim came out very easily with some gentle prying, did not need any tools: Alex
  17. Hi GTF, I found a link to the current Porsche winter tire recommendations from the USA site. Maybe it will help? Overview winter tyres current vehicles Alex
  18. Does anyone have experience with Clear Magic LCC, Media, PA? They do 3M and XPEL clear bra installations. I want to have a clear bra fitted after I have the front bumper repainted. I'm in Wilmington, DE. Thanks, Alex
  19. :thankyou: Jeff. That's a lot of adhesive, X 2, sounds like one of those weekend projects. The 3M remover does work but it still takes a lot of elbow grease. I just replaced my rear lid logo and I used it then. All the best, Alex
  20. I need to clarify, is the door sill 'scuff plate' shown in the diagram above attached with adhesive only, i.e., removed with hair dryer & floss? I'm looking to replace the stock Carrera scuff plates. Thanks, Alex
  21. I ran across this picture of redridge's awesome 2000 Millenium 996, I love the 911 door sill logo. Is it available to non-Millenium owners?
  22. Thank you OrientExpress and RFM. So RFM you're right. I am sure I ordered the one for the upper lid but they sent me the one for the LOWER lid! The one for the upper lid is 996 559 237 07 4PU and they sent me ...10 4PU. Now I get to do it all over again. The lesson is always read the P/N before installing any new part. Thanks guys, Alex
  23. I completed the Carrera logo DIY. The floss worked well, the 3M adhesive remover worked well along with a lot of finger work ;) but... Even though I placed the logo in the exact same place as the last one, the top of the C refuses to stick: What do you guys think? • Is it defective? • Should I use 'double sided foam tape' or something else to glue it down? I don't want to use anything that would hurt the paint and that can be removed later if needed. I'm not sure if Super Glue gel would work. Any thoughts? Thanks, Alex
